Rays | Grady Sizemore sitting out

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 14:22:34 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Grady Sizemore is not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone Thursday, Aug. 27. OF Joey Butler will start in left field and is batting sixth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Sizemore ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) likely is sitting out because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. Butler was recently called up from the minor leagues and should not be a starting option at this point.

Rays | Desmond Jennings placed on 15-day DL

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 12:44:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings (knee) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, Aug. 27. In a corresponding move, OF Joey Butler was recalled from Class AAA Durham.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) appeared in 10 games before requiring another stint on the disabled list. At this point, he is nothing more than a desperation stash in deep mixed leagues. Butler is a low-end outfield option for AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, and he stands as a potential value play in the right matchups for FantasyScore players.

Rays | Joey Butler in two-hole

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 07:35:30 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Joey Butler is serving as the designated hitter and hitting second in the order Sunday, Aug. 2, against the Boston Red Sox and LHP Wade Miley.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is hitting .297 against lefties this season, and he'll be a strong option in both GPP tournaments and cash games on FantasyScore.

Rays | Grady Sizemore in the lineup

Sat, 01 Aug 2015 08:03:16 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Grady Sizemore will start in left field against Boston Red Sox SP Joe Kelly Saturday, Aug. 1, and is batting sixth in the lineup. OF Joey Butler is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Sizemore was recalled from the minor leagues Saturday after spending some time with Class AAA Durham. He struggled over his last several games when he was with the Rays and should not be a fantasy option at this point.

Rays | John Jaso not in Friday lineup

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 15:30:19 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox left-handed SP Eduardo Rodriguez Friday, July 31. OF Joey Butler is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth, while OF Mikie Mahtook was recalled from the minors and gets the start in left field while hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has cooled off considerably since a hot run in the first half of the season, and he's seeing inconsistent playing time, too, making him hard to rely on for fantasy purposes. Both he and Mahtook are weaker outfield plays, but Butler at least is a decent value consideration on FantasyScore. Mahtook should be ignored.

Rays | Joey Butler out Wednesday

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 09:04:25 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Joey Butler is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 29. C Curt Casali is serving as the designated hitter and batting seventh against Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has four home runs in his last two games and has earned himself everyday playing time, at least in the short term. His hot stick won't last forever, so you may want to capitalize while you still can on FantasyScore. Verlander has looked rather pedestrian with a 5.57 ERA in his seven starts this season.

Rays | John Jaso out vs. southpaw

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 15:22:03 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso is not in the lineup against Detroit Tigers left-handed SP David Price Tuesday, July 28. OF Joey Butler is serving as the designated hitter and batting second.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has hit very well against lefties this year (.314/.333/.486 with three of his six home runs in 70 at-bats), which could make him a contrarian play on FantasyScore while facing Price.

Rays | James Loney sitting against LHP

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 06:46:57 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney is out of the lineup Wednesday, July 22, with OF Joey Butler hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has fallen off after a hot start as he's hitting just .152 this month. He hits slightly better against lefties, and Adam Morgan is a decent matchup. He's a low-end option on FantasyScore.

Rays | David DeJesus out of the lineup

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 07:24:24 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF David DeJesus is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey Saturday, July 18. OF Joey Butler will start in left field and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: DeJesus ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and will return soon. Butler ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has recorded only three hits in his last 13 games and is not a great option for owners on FantasyScore.

Rays | David DeJesus in two-hole

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 13:54:06 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF David DeJesus is starting in left field and hitting second against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh Friday, July 10. OFs Joey Butler and Grady Sizemore are starting on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Butler loses the most fantasy value with the additions of Sizemore and Jaso to the roster recently. He should only be owned now in the deepest of AL leagues. DeJesus ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is much better against righties (.276 average, all five of his homers), but he hasn't fared very well at home (.216-2-7) this year. He remains a pretty unattractive FantasyScore commodity, even hitting high in the order.
