Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said the plan for now is to keep SP Tanner Scheppers in the starting rotation, despite another rough outing against the Seattle Mariners Thursday, April 17. One inning has cost him in three of his four starts this season, and 17 of the 20 runs he's allowed have come in three innings. SP Nick Martinez is a candidate to enter the rotation if the team makes a change. SPs Nick Tepesch and Scott Baker are other options in the minors.
Fantasy Tip: The experiment with Scheppers as a starter could soon be coming to an end. His outing next week will likely determine his fate. There are better options out there on the waiver wire in mixed leagues right now.

The Texas Rangers sent Ps Nick Tepesch, Cory Burns, Miles Mikolas and Daniel Bard, Cs Patrick Cantwell and Brett Nicholas, INFs Kensuke Tanaka and Andy Parrino and OFs Brad Snyder and Bryan Petersen to minor league camp Monday, March 17. Tepesch will continue to be stretched out as a starter at Triple-A Round Rock. RP Jose Contreras has been told he won't make the team, and he may consider retiring.

Texas Rangers SP Nick Tepesch (back) allowed two hits over three innings in his Cactus League appearance Monday, March 3, against the Cleveland Indians. "Overall, I was pretty happy with my command. It's not where it needs to be completely, but I was down in the zone and commanded four pitches for strikes," Tepesch said.
Fantasy Tip: Tepesch was scratched from his last outing due to a back issue. He is in the mix for a rotation spot, and would be a solid AL-only and deeper mixed fantasy option if he can work his way back into the starting five.

Texas Rangers SP Nick Tepesch continues to work on his changeup in hopes that it will set him apart and give him a leg up on winning a starting rotation spot. "It's something I've been focusing on this winter in my throwing program and I feel like I've made some strides with it. I think it's an important pitch for just about everybody. It's something I feel like could help me turn a corner by developing that," he said. Tepesch went 4-6 with a 4.84 ERA in 19 outings (17 starts) in 2013.

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (knee) suffered a "freak accident" at his home that led to cartilage damage in his left knee, and he'll undergo arthroscopic surgery on it Friday, Jan. 10. He'll be out until midseason. "I'm devastated by this injury," Holland said. "It was a freak accident at home that resulted in a hard fall on my knee. As upsetting as this is, my goal is to begin rehab and get back on the mound as quickly as possible." General manager Jon Daniels said Holland fell on the stairs at his home. Holland has no long-term damage to his anterior or medial collateral ligaments. SPs Robbie Ross and Nick Tepesch are candidates to enter the rotation in the first half of the year.

Texas Rangers P Nick Tepesch is expected to make his next turn in the rotation Tuesday, Sept. 17, against the Tampa Bay Rays, rather than P Alexi Ogando. "(Tepesch) is going to prepare to start," manager Ron Washington said Tuesday, Sept. 10. "We have enough arms in the bullpen."

Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando could return to the rotation and start next week. Ogando worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings and got the win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Sunday, Sept. 8. Ogando is 5-4 with a 3.47 ERA this season and has been on the disabled list three times. SPs Nick Tepesch and Travis Blackley are also candidates to start next week.
Fantasy Tip: Ogando's possible start next week is likely to be just a spot start, though, so his value won't increase much for the rest of the season.
