Mon, 13 May 2013 16:04:02 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (triceps) received an anti-inflammatory injection in his right triceps muscle after being diagnosed with inflammation. He has been removed from his rehab assignment and will likely resume throwing this weekend. The team hopes he can resume his rehab assignment next week. Fantasy Tip: This represents a minor setback for Lewis, and it buys more time for either Justin Grimm or Nick Tepesch in the starting rotation. Lewis is expected to take one of those younger's spot when he's fully healthy. Lewis is close enough to warrant stashing on your mixed league roster.
Mon, 22 Apr 2013 11:52:15 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Nick Tepesch (arm) threw a bullpen session Monday, April 22, and he didn't have any setbacks. He is scheduled to make his next start Thursday, April 25, against the Minnesota Twins.
Sun, 21 Apr 2013 11:03:39 -0700 Updating a previous report, Texas Rangers SP Nick Tepesch (wrist) said he felt good Sunday, April 21, although he admitted there was still minor soreness in his right wrist. Manager Ron Washington believes he'll be ready to make his next scheduled start against the Minnesota Twins Thursday, April 25.
Sat, 20 Apr 2013 18:22:22 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Nick Tepesch (wrist) was forced from his start Saturday, April 20, against the Seattle Mariners due to a right wrist contusion. That was the initial evaluation, although he'll be examined again Sunday, April 21.
Fri, 19 Apr 2013 13:30:17 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (back) will need to undergo back surgery Tuesday, April 23, to fix a herniated disc in his back. Fantasy Tip: There is no timetable on Harrison's return, but it's realistic that he won't return until after the All-Star break. This is a big blow to a rotation that was already lacking depth. Nick Tepesch and Justin Grimm will remain at the back end, but they are only worth rostering in AL-only leagues. Owners hanging onto Harrison in mixed formats can drop him at this point.
Wed, 10 Apr 2013 11:25:47 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Nick Tepesch allowed only one run in 7 1/3 innings against the Tampa Bay Rays in his major league debut Tuesday, April 9, to become the first pitcher to give up four hits or less and a run or less in his major league debut in 7 1/3 innings on a date as early as April 9 since Wayne Simpson did so April 9, 1970. Tepesch walked three and struck out five in the contest. Fantasy Tip: Don't run out in waves to pick up Tepesch just yet. He's an extreme ground-ball pitcher that relies on pitching to contact. If his command isn't spot on, he can become extremely hittable. Consider him only in AL-only leagues if you need the innings.
Tue, 09 Apr 2013 09:59:46 -0700 The Texas Rangers designated OF Julio Borbon for assignment Tuesday, April 9, and recalled SP Nick Tepesch from the minors in a corresponding move. Fantasy Tip: There's a good chance Borbon is traded or lands with another team. If he does, he may be a sneaky source for thefts if he lands in the right situation for single-universe owners.
Sun, 31 Mar 2013 09:35:19 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Nick Tepesch will be added to the 25-man roster April 9, when he is scheduled to make his MLB debut against the Tampa Bay Rays. OF Julio Borbon appears to be the player most likely to lose his spot on the team, although he would have to clear waivers because he is out of options. For the time being, Borbon is expected to be used as a pinch-hitter and pinch-runner off the bench.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 12:42:30 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Nick Tepesch has won the No. 5 starting rotation spot. SP Michael Kirkman will join the bullpen. Tepesch's first start will come April 9 against the Tampa Bay Rays. Fantasy Tip: Tepesch has never pitched in the majors and will go through growing pains at some point along the line. He relies on location and ground-ball outs mainly. He's purely a deep AL-only commodity.
Sun, 24 Mar 2013 20:30:11 -0700 Texas Rangers P Robbie Ross remains in the mix for the fifth starter job, but the team prefers him working out of the bullpen. P Nick Tepesch looks to be the favorite for the job barring any additions from outside of the organization.
