Detroit Lions CB Darius Slay (knee) underwent arthroscopic knee surgery for a torn meniscus Friday, May 3, and will not take part in the team's rookie minicamp, according to a league source. Doctors discovered the knee injury was not a severe issue and they believe he could play in 10 days if he had to, the source said. Slay will be ready for training camp.

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said he expects the teams high draft picks to be on the field quickly because of the needs of the team. "That's a fair statement, but it's also fair to say we had more holes coming into it, or more holes that we knew about, coming into this draft than we did last year," Mayhew said. "We do expect a lot of those guys, especially guys that we took early, to be on the field pretty quickly." First-round pick DE Ezekiel Ansah was drafted to replace DE Kyle Vanden Bosch. Second round pick CB Darius Slay will compete with CB Bill Bentley. Third round pick OG Larry Warford will likely replace OG Stephen Peterman.

Mississippi State CB Darius Slay made NFL personnel take notice of his skill set, reportedly outperforming fellow Mississippi State CB Johnthan Banks. Slay showed quick feet, loose hips and speed and balls skills to impress throughout positional drills. He is believed to have improved his stock to land him a selection on the second day of the NFL Draft.
