Patriots | Mike Gillislee rushes for 44 yards

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 13:34:05 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee rushed for 44 yards on 10 carries against the New York Jets in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee has received at least 10 carries in all six games this season but has gone four games without a touchdown. He will continue to have a solid role in the running game and can be a flex option in most standard leagues.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee quiet once again

Thu, 05 Oct 2017 21:37:26 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee carried the ball 12 times for 52 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: After scoring four times in his first two games, Gillislee has turned three consecutive 12-carry efforts into 31, 49 and 52 yards, respectively. He's also a complete non-factor in the passing game. Gillislee is a flex option at best and has been a mostly disappointing replacement for LeGarrette Blount.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee held under 50 yards rushing

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 15:54:39 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee ran 12 times for 49 yards in a 33-30 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Carolina held New England to 80 yards on the ground, but this was the second straight week where Gillislee struggled to run the ball. Keep Gillislee no better than a flex option in your leagues.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee held in check

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 14:53:19 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee rushed for 31 yards on 12 carries against the Houston Texans in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee rushed for four touchdowns in the first two weeks of the season but was held out of the end zone this week. He will continue to receive most of the carries for the Patriots and should be at least a flex option because of his touchdown potential.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee runs for 69 yards, TD

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 18:54:12 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee rushed 18 times for 69 yards and a touchdown in the Week 2 game against the Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee has managed four rushing touchdowns through his first two games, basically filling the role of the departed LeGarrette Blount in the New England backfield. He has obviously emerged as a must-start fantasy option across the board heading into Week 3 against the visiting Texans.

Patriots | James White saw bulk of snaps Thursday

Fri, 08 Sep 2017 09:37:28 -0700

New England Patriots RB James White played in 43 of 81 offensive snaps in a Week 1 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, Sept. 7. Mike Gillislee finished second on the team with 24, Rex Burkhead had 10 and Dion Lewis tallied six.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots' committee backfield remained very much intact in the opener, although Gillislee certainly appears to have the edge at the goal line, as expected. Burkhead got the start, but it was White who saw the most playing time - primarily as when the Patriots used tempo. For now, Gillislee has the look of a volatile RB3/flex option who will pile up short-yardage scores when given the opportunity, while White is also a flex play in PPR. The other two backs are complete dart throws at the moment.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee scores three times

Thu, 07 Sep 2017 22:20:19 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee carried the ball 15 times for 45 yards and three touchdowns during the team's Week 1 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Good news: Gillislee scored three times. Bad news: Gillislee got stuffed on two separate 4th-and-short attempts. Sure, fantasy owners will take three TDs every single time, but the 26-year-old averaged just 3.0 yards per carry and wasn't involved as a receiver. Still, Gillislee got as many carries as the other three backs combined and remains a high-end RB3.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee makes immediate impact

Fri, 25 Aug 2017 18:37:58 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee made his preseason debut Friday, Aug. 25, finishing with eight carries for 38 yards and a touchdown against the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: He looked good in first game action for the Patriots. New England's backfield is murky, but Gillislee is probably the best bet to fill a LeGarrette Blount-type role. He is a high-upside RB3.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee fully healthy

Wed, 23 Aug 2017 07:43:18 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee (hamstring) said he's 100 percent and flying around the practice field.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee is being overdrafted in a lot of leagues. The Pats' roster is loaded, and they can spotlight any given player any week. Be very careful when drafting him as anything more than a high-end RB3 carries risk.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee full go in practice

Tue, 22 Aug 2017 15:10:03 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee (hamstring) was a full participant in practice Tuesday, Aug. 22, after being limited the last two weeks.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots don't even have a depth chart for their running backs right now, so it's officially a crapshoot. Gillislee, James White and Rex Burkhead, among others, will all be splitting playing time as long as they're healthy. Gillislee is the favorite for goal-line work, but draft at your own risk.

Patriots | No depth chart at RB in New England

Tue, 22 Aug 2017 09:26:05 -0700

New England Patriots RBs Mike Gillislee, Rex Burkhead, James White and Dion Lewis form a "deep, talented group" and any one of the four could be featured at any given time, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee, who was expected to be the early-down and goal-line back in New England this year, has missed the last two weeks with a hamstring injury, giving Burkhead time to shine. White is locked into a passing-game role, while Lewis figures to contribute in just about every way possible on offense and special teams. Owners may be able to hit big on occasion in this backfield on a weekly basis, but all of them will be hard to trust as anything more than flex options.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee expected to sit out

Sat, 19 Aug 2017 11:57:59 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee (hamstring) is not expected to play in the preseason game against the Houston Texans Saturday, Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee has missed most of training camp because of his hamstring injury and there is no timetable to return. He is expected to receive most of the carries when he is healthy but will also share playing time with other running backs on the roster. He could be a No. 2 running back or flex option if he is ready for the season.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee remains sidelined

Wed, 16 Aug 2017 15:43:20 -0700

New York England RB Mike Gillislee (hamstring) did not travel with the team for their joint practices with the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee has missed a lot of practice time since the start of training camp because of his injury and there is no timetable for his return. He was expected to have a role similar to LeGarrette Blount had last season, but he may have a smaller role in the offense if he does not return soon. He has a chance to be a No. 2 running back or a flex option if he receives most of the carries.

Patriots | Dion Lewis, James White listed on first-team

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 11:20:21 -0700

New England Patriots RBs Dion Lewis and James White are ahead of Rex Burkhead and Mike Gillislee on the team's unofficial depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: Unofficial depth charts in early August before even one preseason game has been played are usually pretty meaningless, but Gillislee on the third team is notable, even if he has been sidelined for approximately a week due to a hamstring injury. Lewis and White have been with the team longer than Burkhead, which likely explains why they "rank" higher. Burkhead is still the player to target here if Gillislee can't get healthy soon. White is a RB3 in PPR, while Lewis is worthy of a bench spot in fantasy.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee sidelined

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 10:58:58 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee (hamstring) has been "locked onto the conditioning field for the past few days," according to the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe. Gillislee also reportedly dealt with a similar issue during OTAs.

Fantasy Tip: All aboard the Rex Burkhead train. Gillislee has been considered the favorite for the LeGarrette Blount big-back role in this offense from the moment he signed with the Patriots, but head coach Bill Belichick has a long history of "next man up" and will not be afraid to promote Burkhead if Gillislee cannot stake his claim to the job. Ideally, owners will have an opportunity to watch this play out some more, but early drafters would be wise to use a late-round pick on Burkhead and bump Gillislee down a bit.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee the new LeGarrette Blount?

Sat, 29 Jul 2017 09:24:30 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee handled the first carry at the goal line at practice Saturday, July 29, and appears to be the "top candidate" to replace LeGarrette Blount as the big back in the Patriots' offense, according to ESPN.com's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee has been the favorite to fill Blount's old role from the moment he arrived in New England. For a team expected to be a juggernaut on offense and play with the lead in just about every game, that role should net Gillislee a lot of work at the goal line and in four-minute drills if he can take the job. Although Blount's franchise-record 18 touchdowns a season ago may be asking too much, rushing for 1,000-plus yards and 10 to 12 scores is not. He should be a solid RB2 option in all leagues.

Patriots | D.J. Foster on the bubble?

Thu, 13 Jul 2017 19:37:38 -0700

New England Patriots RB D.J. Foster was effective catching the ball in spring practices, but Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com believes the offseason signings of RB Mike Gillislee and RB Rex Burkhead could make it tough for Foster to make the roster.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee dealt with injury

Wed, 12 Jul 2017 15:30:34 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee (undisclosed) dealt with an undisclosed injury during offseason workouts, but running backs coach Ivan Fears said it did not appear to be a long-term issue.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check on Gillislee's status once training camp starts, but he probably will be fine for the start of the season. He is expected to take over the role that LeGarrette Blount had last season, which should help his fantasy value. He will have to share touches with other running backs during the season but could be a No. 3 running back in fantasy leagues.

Eagles | LeGarrette Blount lived in red zone in 2016

Tue, 11 Jul 2017 17:57:35 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount was far and away the busiest player in the league inside the red zone last year, registering league highs in carries and touchdowns inside the 20, 10 and 5. Sixteen of his 68 red zone carries, 15 of his 42 attempts inside the 10 and 12 of his 24 rushes inside the 5 resulted in touchdowns. Mike Gillislee is expected to assume the power role Blount had with the New England Patriots last season.

Fantasy Tip: Blount obviously obviously cannot count on the same kind of volume in Philadelphia that he could in New England, but it is notable for present and future owners of Gillislee. While a repeat of Blount's franchise-record 18 rushing touchdowns for Gillislee is highly unlikely, he is a very good bet to reach double figures for the first time in his career and makes for a high-upside RB3 in most leagues.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee in prominent running role?

Tue, 04 Jul 2017 07:52:41 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee is the most likely back to fill the void left by RB LeGarrette Blount's departure, in the opinion of beat writer Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee has rushed for 5.7 yards per carry in each of the last two seasons in limited work. He'll be a matchup play, but he could be a sneaky RB3 against weaker defenses.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee the favorite to start?

Mon, 05 Jun 2017 14:29:47 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee appears to be the frontrunner for the Patriots' starting running back job, according to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe, although he is expected to be part of a committee.

Fantasy Tip: Dion Lewis, James White and Rex Burkhead will push Gillislee for meaningful playing time in a crowded backfield. Gillislee is already an under-the-radar fantasy asset. If he does earn most of the snaps and can serve as the Pats' primary goal-line back in place of LeGarrette Blount then he will surprise some people in 2017.

Patriots | Dion Lewis' roster spot likely safe

Sun, 28 May 2017 08:08:36 -0700

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis still has a spot on the club despite the additions of Mike Gillislee and Rex Burkhead this offseason, likely as a kickoff returner and reserve running back who will play 15 to 20 snaps per game, per ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis showed off his trademark burst in OTAs per Reiss, who believes the team will "carefully manage" the injury-prone running back. James White is the favorite to remain the team's primary passing-down back, leaving Lewis' owners in a tough spot. Consider White a solid mid-round option in PPR leagues and Lewis more of a late-round gamble.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee terms

Tue, 02 May 2017 06:00:08 -0700

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee's two-year, $6.4 million deal includes $4 million in 2017 via a $1.5 million guaranteed salary, a $2 million roster bonus and $500,000 in per-game roster bonuses. He's scheduled to make $2.4 million in 2018 with a $1.9 million salary and $500,000 in per-game roster bonuses.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee is going to run the ball, but with so many capable backs you have to wonder if 10 carries is the ceiling for him most games. He produced a lot in a little window with 5.7 yards per carry and eight touchdowns in 101 rushes. He'll be a potential flex back with some risk/reward in fantasy.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee will receive carries

Mon, 24 Apr 2017 16:44:43 -0700

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee is expected to receive a role like the one free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount (Patriots) had this past season.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee probably will receive a majority of the carries in the running game and likely will only see a few targets in the passing game. He was very successful in his limited playing time in 2017 and could be a No. 3 running back for fantasy owners.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee officially joins Patriots

Mon, 24 Apr 2017 13:05:09 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB Mike Gillislee's two-year, $6.4 million offer sheet was not matched by the Bills, thus officially making him a member of the New England Patriots, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots' backfield is officially a crapshoot. With Dion Lewis, James White and Rex Burkhead, among others, already in the mix, Gillislee's touches will be limited. Trying to figure out who Bill Belichick will utilize any given week could turn into regret.

Bills | BUF holding off on Mike Gillislee decision

Sat, 22 Apr 2017 08:04:28 -0700

The Buffalo Bills have until Monday, April 24, to decide whether or not they plan on matching the two-year, $6.4 million offer from the New England Patriots for restricted free-agent RB Mike Gillislee.

Fantasy Tip: There is some speculation the Bills are leaning toward matching the Patriots' offer after deciding almost immediately last year he would not do the same with then-RFA Chris Hogan. Buffalo probably also has no desire to lose a productive backup like Gillislee to its division rival just so he can come back and haunt the Bills twice a year for each of the next two seasons. If he remains a Bill, Gillislee would remain one of the top handcuffs in fantasy.

Patriots | Pats offer contract to Mike Gillislee

Tue, 18 Apr 2017 10:40:41 -0700

The New England Patriots have offered Buffalo Bills restricted free-agent RB Mike Gillislee a two-year, $6.4 million contract, according to a source. The first year of the deal is worth $4 million.

Fantasy Tip: Interesting play. The Pats have moved on from LeGarrette Blount, for all intents and purposes, and it appears the Adrian Peterson intrigue has been shelved. Gillislee showed flashes of brilliance as a spell and situational back in 2016. He would be part of a committee in New England, as well. Think RB4 value for now.

Patriots | Mike Gillislee visits New England

Thu, 13 Apr 2017 05:20:58 -0700

Buffalo Bills restricted free-agent RB Mike Gillislee visited the New England Patriots recently, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee ran for a robust 5.7 yards per carry each of the last two seasons, and he scored eight times on the ground last year. He's great in small intervals, but he'll need an injury to LeSean McCoy to see a bigger role in Buffalo. He's an RB4 in fantasy unless that happens.

Buffalo Bills restricted free-agent RB Mike Gillislee is working out with the Bills Monday, April 3. Gillislee is still eligible to be signed to an offer sheet by another team.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee offered a lot of pop in a small sample size with 577 rushing yards (5.7 yards per attempt) and eight scores. He added another touchdown through the air. Gillislee is a tasty flex option in most formats.

Bills | Mike Gillislee receives tender

Mon, 06 Mar 2017 17:41:15 -0800

Buffalo Bills restricted free-agent RB Mike Gillislee has received the original-round tender offer, according to a source. The Bills will try to sign him to a long-term contract.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee appears to have found a good role with the Bills and likely will return to the team for at least one more season. He will receive a solid amount of touches on offense even with LeSean McCoy as the starting running back. Owners in most fantasy leagues should consider him a No. 3 or No. 4 running back.

Fri, 17 Feb 2017 12:51:12 -0800

Buffalo Bills restricted free-agent RB Mike Gillislee could receive a long-term contract this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee should serve as the No. 2 running back for the Bills but will see a decent amount of playing time after finishing 2016 with 577 yards and eight touchdowns. He could be considered a No. 3 or No. 4 running back in fantasy leagues next season.

Bills | Mike Gillislee expected to get tender

Sat, 11 Feb 2017 11:23:53 -0800

Buffalo Bills restricted free-agent RB Mike Gillislee likely will receive a tender offer this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee rushed for 577 yards and eight touchdowns in limited playing time this season. He probably will not receive a lot of work as long as LeSean McCoy is healthy but should receive a handful of touches per game in 2017. He can be a No. 4 running back in some fantasy leagues and can also be a handful to McCoy.

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 22:36:18 -0800

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee has proven he's capable of being a starting running back in the NFL, which hopefully comes to fruition as early as next season, considering he's shown glimpses of excellence. Sun, 27 Nov 2016 07:46:30 -0800

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (thumb) will play in Week 12's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is expected to see a heavier workload than normal because RB Mike Gillislee (hamstring) will not be active.

Fantasy Tip: McCoy was limited in practice throughout the week while recovering from a dislocated thumb and was listed as questionable on the injury report. He should be viewed as a high-end RB2 in all fantasy formats.

Bills | Mike Gillislee ruled out

Fri, 25 Nov 2016 10:04:39 -0800

Buffalo Bills RB Mike Gillislee (hamstring) will not play Week 12 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: With LeSean McCoy questionable due to thumb surgery earlier this week, the Bills face the real possibility of needing to turn to Reggie Bush and Jonathan Williams at some point this weekend. McCoy is expected to play and is expected to shoulder the load for the ground attack, but it's a good bet he'll cede most of the work in the passing game to Bush.
