Cowboys | Joseph Randle polishing his game

Sat, 01 Aug 2015 19:38:27 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle said he is working on his pass protection skills as he tries to improve on the intangibles he will need to win the starting running back job.

Fantasy Tip: Randle seems to have the inside track to the starting gig, but struggling with pass protection would be quick way to lose snaps. Randle and Darren McFadden will continue to battle to be the lead back, and the winner of the competition will be a potential RB2 with Dallas' stout offensive line paving the way.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle top choice for RB job

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 17:30:50 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle is the leading candidate for the starting running back job at this point. The team like Randle's vision and explosiveness and expect big things from him this season.

Fantasy Tip: Randle may be part of a committee at running back, but he should see a majority of the carries if he does not struggle during the preseason. Randle averaged 6.7 yards per carry last season, which shows his explosiveness. Randle could be a middle-round option in leagues if he wins the starting job.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle receives endorsement

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 17:35:03 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle received strong praise from team owner and general manager Jerry Jones Wednesday July 29. "We have a player (in Randle) that has the potential -- and we based that on, not on what he did at Oklahoma State or how we drafted him, but by literally being a teammate around here for the last two years -- but he has the potential to be the kind of back that would step in there and be your No. 1 back," Jones told reporters. "If he were not here, then I wouldn't feel as good as we go into the season and what might happen," said Jones.

Fantasy Tip: Randle should be selected as the first Cowboys' first running back in drafts, but sheepish owners may need to handcuff him to Darren McFadden.

Cowboys | Dallas still not interested in veterans

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 17:50:51 -0700

The Dallas Cowboys are still not interested in veteran RBs Chris Johnson and Ray Rice, following the release of RB Ryan Williams Tuesday, July 28. The Cowboys remain confident in RBs Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar.

Fantasy Tip: While Randle and McFadden are thought to have separated themselves from Dunbar, neither one has an upper hand over the other at this point. This will be one of the most closely watched position battles all preseason.

Cowboys | No lead candidate at RB in Dallas?

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 13:07:48 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RBs Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar are still battling each other for the starting running back position, according to running backs coach Gary Brown. "I can't say who is going to be the lead dog right now, but those guys are going to compete and we're going to do what's necessary to win games," Brown said.

Fantasy Tip: Brown can say what he wants, but Randle and McFadden are probably the likely candidates to receive the most touches, with Randle having a slight edge for being named the starter. Randle should be taken as a RB3, or low-end RB2 in deeper leagues, while McFadden is more of a low-end RB3 to high-end RB4, especially taking his injury history into consideration.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle the clear leader

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 06:54:35 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle appears to be the clear leader at running back, and it's his job to lose in training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Randle will be pushed by Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar, but the talent is there to take off. He's a high-end RB3, but behind that talented offensive line, you may need to take him as a low-end RB2.

Cowboys | Ryan Williams not a fit in Big D?

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 20:30:52 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Ryan Williams is unlikely to make the 53-man roster projected by beat writer Todd Archer. The team's running backs would be RBs Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden, Lance Dunbar and FB Tyler Clutts.

Fantasy Tip: Williams could still very well make the team, as this is just one man's opinion, but the former Cardinals tailback needs to prove he can stay healthy and be effective first.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle works with first team

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 22:25:41 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle worked with the first-team offense in practice Wednesday, June 3, during organized team activities (OTAs) with RBs Darren McFadden (hamstring) and Ryan Williams (knee) unavailable.

Fantasy Tip: Randle could be in for a big role for the Cowboys as McFadden and Williams have not exactly been durable during their NFL careers. He screams of mid-round value on draft day in standard fantasy leagues since his upside is significant and initially he is expected to work in a committee.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle capable of big stats?

Sat, 30 May 2015 12:33:04 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle can attain between 1,200 and 1,500 yards this season if he can stay on the field, according to Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News.

Fantasy Tip: Randle has only run the ball 105 times in his two-year career so far, so that's expecting a lot from a little experience. Randle has the talent, and averaged 6.7 yards on 51 carries last season. Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar will also be in the mix. As it stands, Randle should be drafted as a RB3 with RB2 upside.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle handing bigger load

Fri, 29 May 2015 06:15:48 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle took the majority of the first-team repetitions the first two days of organized team activities this week. RB Darren McFadden split the reps with Randle Wednesday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Randle appears to be in the lead in the committee and shakes out as a low-end RB2 right now. Run DMC will still have a say in the matter and is a quality RB3 to target in traditional formats.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle talks pressure

Thu, 28 May 2015 06:37:15 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle believes he can handle the spotlight of being the starting running back in Dallas, should he win the job. Randle says he has been a star his entire life and will just continue to be himself. Randle added that he will continue to work as hard as he can to secure the starting job, "and see which role I end up in."

Fantasy Tip: Randle appears to be the leader of the pack in a crowded backfield of midrange competition. He has the potential to be special behind this offensive line, should he win outright and keep his head on straight off the field. Draft him as a high-upside RB3, unless he wins the gig, when his value would soar.

Cowboys | Dallas splitting reps at RB

Wed, 27 May 2015 18:26:07 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RBs Darren McFadden and Joseph Randle have been splitting reps with the first-team offense during organized team activities this week.

Fantasy Tip: Both players likely will receive playing time this upcoming season, but it is not known which player will be the starter. Owners probably should consider the winner of the job to be a middle-round option, while the other player could be selected in the late rounds.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle logical leader of RBBC

Wed, 20 May 2015 18:02:38 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle is the most likely option to lead the team's running back by committee approach in 2015. Randle has the most experience in the system, and he also has experience as a starter. Randle filled in for RB DeMarco Murray in 2013, when Murray was injured.

Fantasy Tip: Randle will likely be discounted all through draft season and he will also be likely to begin the 2015 season as a cheap option on FantasyScore. There are plenty of on-field and off-field issues surrounding Randle, but the upside is high.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle needs team's trust

Sat, 16 May 2015 16:24:40 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle has the skills to lead the team's backfield in 2015 but he'll need to work on his off-field issues, according to Jon Machota of SportsDayDFW.com. Randle will need to prove to his coaches he can stay out of trouble and be relied on every week.

Fantasy Tip: Randle rushed for 343 yards on just 51 attempts last season. The Cowboys crowded, yet, lackluster backfield will likely keep Randle available in the latter rounds of 2015 fantasy drafts, and if he can emerge as the lead back early in the season, he could be a high-end RB2.

Cowboys | Jerry Jones confident in run game

Thu, 14 May 2015 16:41:17 -0700

Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones expressed confidence in the team's overall run game Thursday, May 14. "You say the entire running game, and that would be including our tight ends, including our fullback the entire game we're better," Jones said. The Cowboys have yet to determine roles for their running backs. As it stands, RB Darren McFadden is at the top of the depth chart, with RBs Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar and Ryan Williams in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: With McFadden's extensive injury history he'll represent too much uncertainty come draft time. If Joseph Randle remains buried on the depth chart, he'll make for an excellent source of value after he rushed for 6.7 yards per carry on 51 attempts last season.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle could play leading role

Tue, 12 May 2015 07:34:15 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle could see the bulk of the carries as the season weighs on, in the opinion of beat writer Todd Archer. Archer pegged Randle for 1,200 rushing yards this season in what Archer admitted was a bold prediction.

Fantasy Tip: The prediction isn't too far-fetched considering Darren McFadden has yet to show the ability to stay healthy or live up to his hype. Randle is an RB3 fantasy target with the potential for RB2 value. However, he's a risk due to the committee in Dallas.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle has high expectations

Tue, 05 May 2015 17:15:20 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle is expected to be a breakout star in 2015, according to the Cowboys organization.

Fantasy Tip: Not much is known at this point about how time will be split between Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar, but after averaging 6.7 yards per rushing attempt in 2014, Randle should have the inside track to emerge as the No. 1 back in Dallas. The crowded Cowboys' backfield should keep Randle's ADP pretty low, but he's definitely the top running back target in Dallas, as of now.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle could face league discipline

Fri, 01 May 2015 09:26:59 -0700

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle could still face punishment from the league under the terms of personal conduct policy, even though he will not face formal misdemeanor charges following a domestic disturbance.

Fantasy Tip: A suspension from the league would likely kill whatever small fantasy value Randle has left at this point. As of right now, he's an RB4, at best, as a handcuff to the oft-injured Darren McFadden in point-per-reception leagues.

Cowboys | Dallas to continue to pound on ground

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 07:15:43 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RBs Darren McFadden, Lance Dunbar and Joseph Randle figure to see a good amount of work in 2015. Head coach Jason Garrett said the team would like to continue their emphasis on inside running after losing RB DeMarco Murray to the Philadelphia Eagles. "Absolutely," Garrett said. "It has to be replaced. It was a good style of football for us to play. We will try to continue to do that."

Fantasy Tip: Run DMC is listed as the team's No. 1 running back on their depth chart with Dunbar and Randle as the secondary backs. Dunbar is a change-of-pace back and is more of a PPR RB5 flyer. McFadden and Randle are pretty similar, but McFadden has a lengthy history of futility and injuries. It's possible the younger Randle overtakes him in camp. For now, though, McFadden should be viewed as a high-end RB3 and Randle as a RB4.

Thu, 19 Feb 2015 16:57:33 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle's hearing has been postponed until March 12. The hearing was to be for a protection from abuse order sought against Randle. The NFL said it is reviewing the matter. Randle was arrested in early February on a drug charge. Randle also allegedly broke a car window and brandished a gun.

Tue, 10 Feb 2015 12:00:47 -0800

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle allegedly brandished a gun, broke a car window and threw away a substantial amount of marijuana because police were coming, according to the mother of Randle's son via 911 telephone calls during an altercation at a hotel in Wichita, Kan. last week. It was originally reported that Randle had not brandished a gun. Randle was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana and has been investigated for a domestic violence charge.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle has charge dropped

Fri, 06 Feb 2015 10:35:08 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle had a drug charge dropped Friday, Feb. 6. The suspicion of marijuana charge was dropped because there were some inconsistencies, according to police spokesman Lt. James Espinoza. Joseph was arrested but not taken into custody Tuesday, Feb. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Randle could see a huge boost in fantasy value if DeMarco Murray departs via free agency. Even if Murray is signed to an extension and remains in Dallas, Randle could have significant value as a handcuff to the oft-injured Murray.

Fri, 30 Jan 2015 21:26:40 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle was the team's primary backup this year, and there are people within the organization that believe he can be a 1,400-yard rusher as a lead back.

Fantasy Tip: If DeMarco Murray ends up departing as a free agent, Joseph would likely see a huge boost in his value.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray to be game-time decision?

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 14:42:03 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) will likely be a game-time decision against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16, according to owner Jerry Jones. Jones said the team is still evaluating Murray's status for this weekend. "I think we just want to take a look at it. We don't know," Jones said. "I'm not so sure, when they say the definition of healing, how much can heal between now and Sunday." RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar will prepare for increased workloads if Murray can't play, and RB Ryan Williams could be activated off the practice squad.

Fantasy Tip: With Dallas playing an afternoon game Sunday, that makes Murray ($8,200) even more risky at FantasyScore in Week 16. Randle ($5,900) and Dunbar ($3,000) are both more than acceptable plays against a weak Colts run D if Murray sits out. Dunbar is probably the better value play at FantasyScore, though, since it's a PPR league.

Cowboys | Owner optimistic on DeMarco Murray

Tue, 16 Dec 2014 10:14:28 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (hand) has a good chance to play in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts despite having surgery on a broken left hand, according to owner Jerry Jones. However, Jones thinks RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar can carry the load efficiently if Murray has to sit. Jones also added that Murray won't need to practice this week in order to play.

Fantasy Tip: As of right now, Murray's $8,200 FantasyScore salary seems much too risky against the Indianapolis Colts, who have been run on mostly all year. You'll need to keep track of Murray's status throughout the week, and the fact that they play an afternoon game makes him all the more risky. However, having either Randle ($5,900) or Dunbar ($3,000) to fall back on is nice.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle to see bigger role

Mon, 15 Dec 2014 14:10:43 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle will be the primary running back in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts if RB DeMarco Murray (hand) is forced to miss the game. RB Lance Dunbar would likely step into a bigger role, as well. "I have a lot of confidence that Joseph Randle would step up and play big for us," owner Stephen Jones said. "Anytime that he's had a chance to run the ball this year -- which maybe hasn't been enough -- he's been very successful."

Fantasy Tip: Randle should be your first priority on the waiver wire this week, especially if you own Murray. Dunbar could be a nice consolation price, though, especially in PPR leagues such as FantasyScore. Both could be nice sleeper picks in daily leagues against the Colts this weekend if Murray is inactive.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray finishes up

Sun, 09 Nov 2014 17:54:09 -0800

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (head) left to be evaluated for concussion in the Week 10 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. However, he was able to return to the game and had rush attempts in the fourth quarter before RB Joseph Randle finished up.

Fantasy Tip: Murray came back into the game, but did not run deep into the fourth quarter because of the lopsided score. Murray reached 100 yards before departing, and he appears to be fine after a scare for his fantasy owners.

Sun, 02 Nov 2014 03:46:53 -0800

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle is "staying for now", according to a team source, even though he has been ostracized by his teammates, and head coach Jason Garrett had to have a meeting to clear the air on tension within the team. Randle was seen on video criticizing the recent legal problems of WR Dez Bryant and DT Joshua Brent, and the disagreements spilled onto the practice field. Randle himself has off-field issues stemming from a shoplifting arrest.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle to play this weekend

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 10:34:32 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle will play in Week 7 against the New York Giants despite being arrest for shoplifting recently, according to head coach Jason Garrett.

Fantasy Tip: Randle ($3,000) should be owned by all DeMarco Murray owners, as the Cowboys main back's workload is piling up at an alarming rate. Randle is next in line behind Murray, and should he be injured, Randle would gain significant value.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray's workload to decrease?

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 14:38:58 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray is likely to have his workload lessened by head coach Jason Garrett to preserve him for the long season. Murray is currently on pace to tie Larry Johnson's single-season record for carries with 416. Murray has run the ball 130 times for 670 yards in the team's first five games of the season. He carried a career-high 31 times for 136 yards in Week 5. Murray has had at least 22 carries in the five games, which is the most he's had in any five-game span in his career.

"DeMarco was out there and we think that's probably too many carries in the game, week in and week out," Garrett said. "He ended up with 31 so we'd like to get that number lower. We'd really just like to get the other guys an opportunity. I don't see any wear and tear in DeMarco but having said that, we want to make sure we create a rotation and we'll focus on doing that in the next few weeks." Murray has never had more than 217 carries in a season. RBs Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar have combined for 22 carries and 88 yards.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't discourage you from using Murray in your daily lineups at FantasyScore. He has been the most productive back in fantasy football, and that shouldn't change drastically with fewer touches.

Cowboys | Bigger role for Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar?

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 18:56:40 -0700

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Friday, Oct. 3, that RB Joseph Randle can be effective, and he could be in line for a few more snaps going forward. "The biggest threat to (RB DeMarco Murray's) stats is Joseph Randle," Jones said. "Frankly, I don't want to leave (RB Lance Dunbar) out of this equation, either. If we can, it would be good to have Dunbar with a few more touches. But make no mistake about it, Joseph Randle can be effective out there, too. Should we? We probably should have at least Randle get a few more snaps."

Cowboys | Lance Dunbar healthy, set for third-down duty

Sat, 12 Jul 2014 20:34:52 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar (knee) hasn't missed a snap this offseason and should fill the third-down back role for the team this year, according to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com. Archer also believes that Dunbar would likely remain the third-down back even if something happens to RB DeMarco Murray with either RB Joseph Randle or RB Ryan Williams taking over as the every-down back, depending on which player wins the job as the team's third back.

Fantasy Tip: Dunbar's involvement in the passing game could make him worth a flier in PPR leagues this year. However, his value is going to be capped if he is limited to mainly passing downs.

Cowboys | DeMarco Murray's role to expand

Tue, 03 Dec 2013 18:21:03 -0800

The Dallas Cowboys plan to ride RB DeMarco Murray as much as they can after losing RB Lance Dunbar (knee). "DeMarco Murray is our lead back, has been our lead back all year long, has done an excellent job for us, did a really good job in the game the other day again," head coach Jason Garrett said Tuesday, Dec. 3. "He'll be the lead dog. The other guys, (RBs Joseph Randle and Phillip Tanner) will have to step up if they have an opportunity if DeMarco can't go."

Fantasy Tip: If you're a Murray fantasy owner, this is music to your ears. Randle and Tanner are not real threats to push their way into a timeshare with Murray, so he will see a bulk of the carries in a league where in this day and age teams are using a two-back system. Over his past three games, Murray has 238 rushing yards and four touchdowns, and he has eight receptions for 79 yards over his past two outings.

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Sunday, Oct. 27, that RB DeMarco Murray (knee) could have played in Week 8 against the Detroit Lions. "I think DeMarco Murray could have gone," Jones said. "I don't know what risk we would have taken with him, but he could have gone." RB Joseph Randle rushed for just 26 yards on 14 carries, and RB Lance Dunbar had 16 yards on five runs.
