Cardinals | Andre Ellington catches nine passes

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 14:19:45 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington caught nine passes for 65 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington has become a big part of the passing game over the last few weeks and should continue to have that role moving forward. He can be a flex option in most leagues next week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington leads all RBs in targets

Wed, 04 Oct 2017 20:32:54 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington has garnered the most targets of any running back in the NFL through the season's first four weeks, drawing 30 throws from QB Carson Palmer. That's one ahead of Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen and Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey.

Fantasy Tip: This is actually a very telling stat about Ellington's notable potential moving forward, as this also takes into account Week 1, which the Arizona tailback barely played in. Over the last two weeks, Ellington has racked up 14 catches on 22 total targets alone, and with David Johnson being out for possibly the rest of the fantasy season, that makes the five-year veteran a must-own commodity in all PPR formats and deep leagues.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington totals 14 touches

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 20:21:51 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington ran five times for 18 yards in Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers and he added nine receptions for 86 yards on a game-high 14 targets.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington totaled 14 touches to 16 for Chris Johnson, as head coach Bruce Arians searches for the right combination with David Johnson on the shelf. Ellington has been far more productive for fantasy owners, particularly in PPR formats.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington paces Arizona backfield

Mon, 25 Sep 2017 21:43:12 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington led the team in rushing yards with 22 on just five carries in the team's Week 3 game Monday, Sept. 25, against the Dallas Cowboys. He also added five receptions for 59 yards.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like the once mega-popular fantasy commodity will be getting another shot at glory based on how the running game was utilized in this one, as Ellington played considerably more snaps than both Chris Johnson and Kerwynn Williams. It was flashes of the Ellington from years ago when he first broke into the league and was regularly involved in the passing game. After two nothing performances to begin his season, Ellington has revitalized his value and should not be on any waiver wires.

Cardinals | Kerwynn Williams will start this week

Wed, 13 Sep 2017 14:00:08 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Kerwynn Williams will be the starting running back this week with RB Andre Ellington serving as the No. 2 running back, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Williams, Ellington and Chris Johnson form a committee in place of David Johnson. Williams does have the most fantasy appeal as the technical starter, but his ceiling is limited with the presence of the other two backs. Williams is no more than a flex option in Week 2.

Cardinals | Arizona turning to Andre Ellington?

Tue, 12 Sep 2017 21:05:16 -0700

Adding more context to an earlier report, Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told Sirius XM NFL Radio Tuesday, Sept. 12, he is hopeful RB David Johnson (wrist) can return "by Thanksgiving or Christmas." In the meantime, Arians hinted RB Andre Ellington would be the player most likely to carry the load for the Cardinals in Johnson's absence.

Fantasy Tip: This comes as a surprise in that Kerwynn Williams is Johnson's direct backup, but Arians told Sirius XM that Ellington "was the guy that we drafted David Johnson to play behind" and Arizona "kind of built (the offense) around Andre a few years back" before Johnson's emergence. It's an extremely optimistic take from the coach, but one owners should be willing to take at face value at the moment. While this most likely will be a committee attack, Ellington appears to be the one to grab in fantasy.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington going back to RB

Wed, 07 Jun 2017 11:25:48 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington is moving back to running back, and the team will be looking for him to have a tougher running style, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington probably will compete for the backup running back job during training camp after the team briefly moved him to wide receiver. Ellington likely will receive limited touches in 2017 and should only be a late-round option.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington learning new role

Sun, 21 May 2017 20:22:15 -0700

Arizona Cardinals WR Andre Ellington said the hardest part of his transition from running back to wide receiver is the change in terminology.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington can be a big-play weapon, but the move to receiver doesn't guarantee playing time. He doesn't need to be drafted at this point.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington receiving praise

Wed, 10 May 2017 09:27:14 -0700

Arizona Cardinals WR Andre Ellington is getting more comfortable with the nuances of being a receiver and has the fluidity and ability to run routes with the right angle and bend, according to QB Carson Palmer. "Everything changes when he's got to line up and there are 11 guys across the ball and he, post-snap, has to make decisions. That's difficult. But he runs really good routes, and the thing that really excites me is, once he gets the ball in his hands, what is he going to do with it? He's not a receiver, he's a running back when he has the ball in his hands," Palmer said.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington is a wild-card in fantasy and reality. The odds are against him considering Larry Fitzgerald, John Brown and J.J. Nelson are pretty much locked into the first three spots on the depth chart. With that said, he has more value to the Cardinals as a player who could be their third running back and fifth receiver. Barring a catastrophic number of injuries at either position, however, Ellington will have a hard time being useful in fantasy this year.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington moving to receiver

Wed, 29 Mar 2017 08:42:41 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington is moving to wide receiver, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: This could be a sneaky move for fantasy purposes. Ellington wasn't going to have much value with David Johnson ahead of him as one of the best backs in the NFL. We aren't expecting Ellington to make a sudden transition to an upper echelon receiver, but he's someone that you can grab as a WR5 and possibly use as a bye-week replacement at running back in PPR formats.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington deal for one year

Fri, 17 Mar 2017 05:56:15 -0700

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington landed a one-year deal with a $775,000 base salary.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington is expected to be used more as a receiver in the backfield, but David Johnson's emergence as potentially the best RB in fantasy limits Ellington to possible flex usage.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington to play receiver more

Tue, 14 Mar 2017 13:05:39 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington is expected to be used more as a wide receiver than a running back in 2017. He will play both positions, but the Cardinals like him more at wide receiver, according to azcentral.com's Kent Somers.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington is versatile, but his fantasy value is majorly limited with David Johnson. Johnson also plays running back and receiver, and plays them very well. Ellington is merely a late-round handicap flier for Johnson owners at this juncture.

Cardinals | More touches for Andre Ellington?

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 21:38:12 -0700

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said he would like to give RB Andre Ellington more touches but has a hard time taking the ball out of the hands of RB David Johnson.

Fantasy Tip: Don't expect Johnson to lose touches any time soon, and he should remain one of the top fantasy options at any positon all season long.

Cardinals | David Johnson is an every-down back

Tue, 27 Sep 2016 20:13:58 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson played 79 of a possible 82 snaps against the Buffalo Bills in Week 3. RBs Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington logged just three and one, respectively.

Fantasy Tip: There were some mild concerns after Chris Johnson (16 carries) got more work than David Johnson (12) in Week 2 that the former might have a larger role going forward, but Week 3 proves D. Johnson is among the few legit every-down backs in the NFL and a RB1 in all fantasy formats.

Cardinals | David Johnson will have help

Thu, 11 Aug 2016 13:29:38 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson will not be run into the ground early on in the regular season because RBs Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington will be able to help, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: That being said, David Johnson will be Arizona's go-to back as long as he's healthy. Johnson quickly became one of the most complete running backs in the NFL and should be taken in the first or second round of fantasy drafts with added value in PPR leagues.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington could return kicks

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 13:04:38 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington could return kickoffs because it would be hard to have three active running backs and none playing special teams.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington flashed his upside as a rookie and then averaged 6.4 yards per rushing attempt in 2015. However, he's behind David Johnson and likely Chris Johnson on the depth chart, which will limit his opportunities. He's worth a look late in deep drafts because of how dangerous he is with the ball in his hands, but an injury to another back is likely needed for Ellington to be a potential starting option.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington could play receiver

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 14:55:03 -0700

The majority of Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington's playing time may come at wide receiver, as long as RBs David Johnson and Chris Johnson are healthy, according to azcardinals.com's Darren Urban.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington has had injury issues throughout his career, and he'll likely be the No. 3 running back in 2016, so his fantasy value is really limited right now. He still shouldn't be totally overlooked, though, and taking a deep flier on Ellington in later rounds isn't the worst strategy.

Cardinals | David Johnson will be featured

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 14:45:34 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson is the unquestioned bellcow running back for the Cardinals this year, according to Darren Urban of azcardinals.com. RBs Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington will back up like they did for most of 2015.

Fantasy Tip: As long as David Johnson is healthy, he'll be the primary ball carrier in Arizona, and he deserves to be after a stellar rookie campaign. Draft Johnson as a top-five fantasy running back in all formats.

Cardinals | Cards could use two RBs at a time

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 19:11:17 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson is expected to get a lion's share of the work, but RBs Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington each have skillsets which could help the offense. In fact, head coach Bruce Arians hinted Tuesday, June 7, that two backs could be on the field at the same time. "When I first came here, that's something B.A. told me he wanted to do," Chris Johnson said. "It started off with me getting here late (in training camp), then Andre getting hurt early and me getting hurt. It was hard to get two of us on the field at one time, but that's something we've really been working hard on."

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals have three talented backs, but David Johnson is the one you'll want to pick first on draft day, with CJ2K as a pick for depth and Andre Ellington as a reserve in PPR formats.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington may be in trouble

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 18:15:31 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington could be on the roster bubble because he has not lived up to expectations at this point, according general manager John Keim. "Andre hasn't proved he can be a 20-25 touch-a-game guy. David Johnson has," Keim said. "If the guy doesn't fulfill expectations, it's time to move on."

Fantasy Tip: Ellington rushed for only 289 yards and three touchdowns during the regular season and three yards on four carries in the postseason. Ellington probably will be a change-of-pace back for some team next season but probably would not be more than a late-round pick in fantasy drafts.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington almost out of picture

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 19:17:21 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington ran three times for just three yards in the win against the Green Bay Packers last week, and he had no catches on one target. He will face the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has fallen out of favor in the desert, as David Johnson ($7,000, 14.0% of cap) almost exclusively handles the tailback chores. Even with a limited slate of games, there are better FantasyScore options at tailback on other teams, so avoid Ellington due to his lack of touches.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington not completely healthy

Wed, 06 Jan 2016 17:15:26 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) is not 100% at this point and probably will not be again until after the season, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington probably will have a similar role in the playoffs that he did in the final few weeks of the regular season and receive a handful of touches. Ellington could be a flex option in some leagues but would not be a top option.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington should be in uniform

Fri, 01 Jan 2016 17:56:16 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as probable for the Week 17 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) likely will have a similar role this week that he did in Week 16, which means he will receive a handful of touches. Owners could consider him as a flex option but probably will be able to find better options to use.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington a limited participant

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 18:29:21 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

Fantasy Tip: With David Johnson ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) leading the backfield, Ellington's ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) role has been reduced to a handful of carries. Even if he suits up, he isn't worth using at FantasyScore.

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) was limited during practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) likely will have a similar role on offense like he did in Week 16. He could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore, but owners probably will be able to find more productive options to use.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington gets much-needed work

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 20:28:50 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington rushed seven times for 40 yards in the Week 16 game against the Green Bay Packers. He also added one grab for five yards on his only target.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington came on with a lopsided score, as Bruce Arians wanted to get him some much-needed work. However, the fantasy back of choice should still be David Johnson, with Kerwynn Williams second and Ellington a close third.

Cardinals | David Johnson's touches limited

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 20:27:33 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson carried nine times for 39 yards and a touchdown in the Week 16 game against the Green Bay Packers and he added three receptions for 88 yards on six targets. His touches were limited, but head coach Bruce Arians said Sunday, Dec. 27, that Johnson is fine and he just wanted to get RB Andre Ellington work.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson still totaled 127 yards from scrimmage with a touchdown despite the limited amount of touches, so he didn't hurt fantasy owners in the least. Facing an angry Seattle Seahawks defense in Week 17 might hurt his fantasy value, though.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington will be in uniform

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 12:22:49 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) is officially active for the Week 16 game against the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) likely will play behind David Johnson and see a handful of touches during the game. He has missed several weeks because of the injury but may not be a great option at this point.

Sat, 26 Dec 2015 06:04:25 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) is expected to play against the Green Bay Packers in Week 16 even though he is listed as questionable, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) probably will receive limited playing time if he is active for the game. Ellington has missed nearly a month because of his injury and is not a great option for owners at this point.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington questionable

Fri, 25 Dec 2015 16:45:48 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 25, and is listed as questionable for the Week 16 game against the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) could be a game-time decision for the game, so owners will need to check the inactive list. Ellington probably would see limited playing time if active and is not a great option at this point.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington limited Thursday

Thu, 24 Dec 2015 13:34:40 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: This is an upgrade for Ellington after not practicing yesterday. He's still not guaranteed to play this week, though, so don't take David Johnson ($6,900, 13.8%) out of your starting lineups. Johnson should still be a good option on FantasyScore and with seasonal championships on the line.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington absent Wednesday

Wed, 23 Dec 2015 13:52:54 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Fantasy Tip: It's been nearly a month since Ellington ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) last played. David Johnson ($6,900, 13.8%) has taken the NFL by storm in the meantime, particularly last week. If/when Ellington does return, he's likely to still split playing time with Johnson, so keep him out of your FantasyScore lineups for now.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington could return

Mon, 21 Dec 2015 16:12:52 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) could return to action in Week 16 against the Green Bay Packers, according to head coach Bruce Arians. The Cardinals want to give Ellington a shoe that is comfortable enough for him to play in while dealing with turf toe.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington has missed the last couple of games, and David Johnson has taken full advantage since, putting up two very big games for fantasy owners. Johnson should continue to receive the lion's share of the backfield touches even if Ellington returns, making him at least worthy of a flex spot. Ellington is probably too big a risk to take if he returns.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington unlikely to play

Sun, 20 Dec 2015 07:22:21 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) is not expected to play in Week 15's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a source. He is likely to return in Week 16's game versus the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: Remove Ellington ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) from all fantasy lineups. He would have been considered a risky FantasyScore play anyway because the Cardinals are playing in the Sunday night game this week. David Johnson ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) will serve as the starting running back and is worthy of consideration as a RB2 or flex player.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington a game-time decision

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 15:50:03 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) returned to a limited practice Friday, Dec. 18, but is questionable to play against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15. It was his first time back on the field since suffering a turf toe injury Nov. 29. Ellington will be a game-time decision Sunday night, Dec. 20.

Fantasy Tip: With the game being Sunday night, it's too risky to rely on Ellington ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) this week with so much on the line. David Johnson ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) remains a great daily commodity with Ellington hobbled, especially since the Eagles have allowed the most PPR fantasy points (34.7) to running backs in the last three weeks.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington sitting Thursday

Thu, 17 Dec 2015 15:57:28 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) did not practice for a second straight day Thursday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't look like Ellington will be able to return to the field this week, paving the way for another David Johnson ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) start. Johnson is a great start this week against an underachieving Philadelphia Eagles defense. He should be considered a RB2.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington iffy for Sunday

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 16:20:52 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) is "iffy" for Week 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: There's way too much risk with Ellington ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) with the game being Sunday night. Avoid him. David Johnson ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) will continue to see a heavy workload and is a great pick on FantasyScore. The Eagles have allowed the most PPR fantasy points (34.7) to running backs the last three weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has missed the last several games because of his injury and is not off to a great start for Week 15. David Johnson ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) should receive most of the work at running back and should be a solid option against the Philadelphia Eagles this week.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington progressing

Tue, 15 Dec 2015 16:43:10 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) is making progress with his turf toe. Ellington said he can tell if he's progressing by how much pain he feels when he walks. Ellington said he wants to play this weekend, but admitted that he's not 100% yet.

Fantasy Tip: As long as Ellington remains out, David Johnson ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) will continue to be the Cardinals' featured back. Johnson has filled in splendidly for Chris Johnson and Ellington, so there's no reason to rush Ellington back until he's fully healthy. David Johnson should be considered a RB2 in Week 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) is unlikely to be ready to play in the Week 14 game against the Minnesota Vikings Thursday, Dec. 10, head coach Bruce Arians said in a satellite radio interview Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Fantasy Tip: With Ellington sidelined, it would again mean a steady dose of David Johnson ($6,300, 12.6% of cap). Bruce Arians said he wants to get DJ upwards of 25 touches in Thursday's game, so FantasyScore players will want to look his way.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) hasn't practice yet this week and missed last week, so it would be surprising if he played Thursday night. If he sits, David Johnson ($6,300, 12.6%) would be Arizona's primary running back again and is worth starting on FantasyScore after a solid outing last week.

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 07:25:15 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe), who has already been ruled out for Week 13's game against the St. Louis Rams, is also likely to miss Week 14's game against the Minnesota Vikings, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is expected to be held out in Week 14 because the Cardinals have a short week prior to facing the Vikings on Thursday, Dec. 10. David Johnson ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) is likely to receive the bulk of the carries in his absence and projects as a RB2 in FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington will not play

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 12:10:50 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) has been ruled out for the Week 13 game against the St. Louis Rams.

Fantasy Tip: David Johnson ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) should receive a majority of the carries against the Rams because of the injuries the team has at the position. Johnson will be facing a solid Rams defense but could still be considered a starting option in most leagues.
