The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to use S Shamarko Thomas at free safety because that position calls the defensive backfield signals, which is something he did in college. Defensive backs coach Carnell Lake said the team could also use Thomas to cover slot recievers.

Syracuse SS Shamarko Thomas posted a time of 4.42 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine Tuesday, Feb. 26. He also had 28 reps of 225 pounds in the bench press, a 40 1/2-inch vertical jump 11-foot-1 broad jump and 4.26-second 20-yard shuttle time.
