New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson and RB Leon Washington will make their team debuts in Week 2 against the New York Jets Thursday, Sept. 12. Dobson missed last week with a hamstring ailment. He and WR Josh Boyce should have bigger roles with WR Danny Amendola (groin) and TE Zach Sudfeld (hamstring) inactive. Washington is likely to be used in the pass-catching role that RB Shane Vereen (wrist) was used in.
Fantasy Tip: Dobson and Washington should receive consideration for a pickup in very deep leagues only, and Dobson's long-term value is much more attractive. Brandon Bolden's upside as a third-down pass-catching back is greater than Washington, and Bolden should become more involved once he gets over his knee injury.
Tue, 10 Sep 2013 12:50:17 -0700
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman is expected to be the top receiver in Week 2 against the New York Jets with WR Danny Amendola (groin) not expected to play. Edelman played in 83 of the team's 94 offensive snaps in Week 1. WR Kenbrell Thompkins will line up on the outside opposite of Edelman. WR Josh Boyce didn't register a catch on two targets last week, but his role will increase with Amendola out. Boyce can excel in short-area routes because of his speed and pass-catching skills. WR Aaron Dobson (hamstring) is limited with a hamstring ailment.
Fantasy Tip: Edelman should be the top waiver priority for those looking for another receiver this week. He should get plenty of looks from Tom Brady without Amendola around. Thompkins could be a solid flex play in deeper leagues, too.
Thu, 29 Aug 2013 12:52:36 -0700
New England Patriots RB Leon Washington could be on the roster bubble because he has only been on the field for three of the team's 10 kick returns during the preseason. RB LeGarrette Blount returned kicks in the third preseason, and WR Josh Boyce has also been used as a returner.
Wed, 21 Aug 2013 08:32:37 -0700
New England Patriots WRs Aaron Dobson and Josh Boyce have worked with QB Tom Brady more than veteran WR Julian Edelman over the first two preseason games. Dobson has seen 10 snaps with the starter, while Boyce has been on the field for 15 snaps.
Fantasy Tip: Dobson and Boyce could be primed to see a big role in the offense, or they simply could be seeing more work than the veteran because the team wants to see what the youngsters can do in game action. It's unclear at the moment. What is clear is that the receiving situation in New England is muddled, and really only Danny Amendola is worth anything more than a late-round pick on draft day.

Fri, 26 Jul 2013 10:39:05 -0700
New England Patriots WR Josh Boyce (foot) was on the field for workouts Friday, July 26, after being severely limited in the offseason program by a foot injury.
Fantasy Tip: Boyce has soft hands, and reportedly runs great routes, so he is a sleeper in training camp. The depth chart at wide receiver is wide open, so Boyce is a dark horse worth watching in the preseason.
Fri, 19 Jul 2013 12:54:50 -0700
The New England Patriots will waive WR Donald Jones.
Fantasy Tip: The release of Jones should mean that Aaron Dobson and Josh Boyce will get more reps during practice and preseason games. The competition for the Patriots' No. 2 wide receiver job is wide open, so both rookies should have the chance to earn it. Julian Edelman could also be a candidate for the starting position. Owners should monitor the situation to see which of the receivers gets the job.
