Patriots | Rex Burkhead absent from practice Wednesday

Wed, 20 Sep 2017 10:58:32 -0700

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (rib) was not at practice Wednesday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Burkhead has drawn the start each of the first two weeks, but it has resulted in a total of nine touches. Until his usage spikes dramatically, it will obviously be difficult to start him in fantasy.

Patriots | Rex Burkhead gets into end zone

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 18:56:47 -0700

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead posted three receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown on four targets in Week 2 against New Orleans and he added two runs for three yards.

Fantasy Tip: Burkhead has been talked up as a potential fantasy sleeper and this is why. He'll find the end zone on occasion. He'll likely continue to see a handful of targets and red zone opportunities going forward, and might see more responsibilities if Rob Gronkowski is forced to miss time.

Patriots | Rex Burkhead suffers injury

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 13:04:49 -0700

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (ribs) injured his ribs during the team's Week 2 game and was considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Burkhead was involved in the offense during the first half of the season but did not play after halftime. Owners should know more about his situation in the next day or two. The Patriots use multiple running backs in their offense, which limits Burkhead's fantasy value. He could be a flex option at times this season.

Patriots | Rex Burkhead to see more action?

Sat, 16 Sep 2017 08:42:47 -0700

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead should play more than the 10 offensive snaps he did in Week 1 in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Following an impressive performance which may have led in part to him getting a start in Week 1, Burkhead saw only 10 snaps against the Kansas City Chiefs. With Julian Edelman out for the season and Danny Amendola out at least this week, Reiss believes it is possible Burkhead and James White could see time in the backfield together in a projected shootout with the Saints. With that said, Burkhead probably belongs on fantasy benches for now.

Patriots | Rex Burkhead could see snaps in slot Week 2?

Fri, 15 Sep 2017 09:17:59 -0700

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead is a "logical choice" to see snaps in the slot with the Patriots potentially down to three healthy receivers, including one (Phillip Dorsett) who has been with the team for less than two weeks, according to CSN New England's Mike Giardi.

Fantasy Tip: Burkhead somewhat surprisingly only played 10 snaps in Week 1, so this would be a smart way to get him on the field more often with Danny Amendola likely out Week 2 and Julian Edelman done for the season. It remains to be seen if New England agrees, but Burkhead is still worth holding onto in fantasy until we see a few more offensive game plans from the Patriots.

Patriots | James White saw bulk of snaps Thursday

Fri, 08 Sep 2017 09:37:28 -0700

New England Patriots RB James White played in 43 of 81 offensive snaps in a Week 1 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, Sept. 7. Mike Gillislee finished second on the team with 24, Rex Burkhead had 10 and Dion Lewis tallied six.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots' committee backfield remained very much intact in the opener, although Gillislee certainly appears to have the edge at the goal line, as expected. Burkhead got the start, but it was White who saw the most playing time - primarily as when the Patriots used tempo. For now, Gillislee has the look of a volatile RB3/flex option who will pile up short-yardage scores when given the opportunity, while White is also a flex play in PPR. The other two backs are complete dart throws at the moment.

Patriots | Rex Burkhead returns to practice

Mon, 28 Aug 2017 15:22:54 -0700

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (undisclosed) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 28. Burkhead missed the last week because of the injury.

Fantasy Tip: Burkhead will be part of a committee at running back for the Patriots this season, so his workload will probably change each week. He has played well during the preseason and could be a late-round option in deeper leagues.

Patriots | No depth chart at RB in New England

Tue, 22 Aug 2017 09:26:05 -0700

New England Patriots RBs Mike Gillislee, Rex Burkhead, James White and Dion Lewis form a "deep, talented group" and any one of the four could be featured at any given time, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Gillislee, who was expected to be the early-down and goal-line back in New England this year, has missed the last two weeks with a hamstring injury, giving Burkhead time to shine. White is locked into a passing-game role, while Lewis figures to contribute in just about every way possible on offense and special teams. Owners may be able to hit big on occasion in this backfield on a weekly basis, but all of them will be hard to trust as anything more than flex options.

Patriots | Rex Burkhead steps up

Sat, 19 Aug 2017 21:39:12 -0700

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead worked with the starters in a 27-23 loss to the Houston Texans in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 19, finishing with seven carries for 20 yards and three catches for 50 yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: With Mike Gillislee sidelined, it was Burkhead who was thrust into a major role. Even if Gillislee is ready for the start of the year, Burkhead is worth grabbing as a RB5 in case injury or Bill Belichick's fickle nature puts him in a featured role.
