Bears | Markus Wheaton likely done in Chicago |
Fri, 16 Feb 2018 09:08:21 -0800
Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton is a strong candidate to be released this offseason, according to the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.
Fantasy Tip: Wheaton couldn't stay healthy in his first year with the Bears and didn't perform very well during the limited time he was on the field. Considering he is owed $5 million for 2018 and would be a third receiver on the team at best, Biggs isn't going too far out on the limb here. Wheaton can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Bears | Markus Wheaton to miss some time |
Thu, 12 Oct 2017 15:31:29 -0700
Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (groin) has a tear in his groin and could miss four to six weeks, according to league sources.
Fantasy Tip: No fantasy team should really be affected by this, as Wheaton is better off avoiding even when he's 100 percent healthy. Of course, that seemingly hasn't been the case in years, which might be one reason why he's racked up just one catch in three games this season. Even in the deepest leagues, there are better options to dig up.

Bears | Markus Wheaton blanked against old team |
Sun, 24 Sep 2017 17:05:49 -0700
Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (finger) was targeted twice in his season debut in Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, his former team, but he had no catches.
Fantasy Tip: Wheaton was making his team debut and he has opportunity in Chicago with Cameron Meredith and Kevin White done for the season, leaving the wideout picture wide open. However, it might take time to get used to his new surroundings, so file his name away for fantasy consideration later.

Bears | Markus Wheaton hopeful for Week 3 |
Wed, 20 Sep 2017 16:15:40 -0700
Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (finger) said Wednesday, Sept. 20, that he is hopeful of making his team debut in Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Fantasy Tip: Wheaton has been inactive for the first two games due to a broken pinkie, but he is likely to push hard to return to face his former team. The Bears have a mish-mash group of receivers, so Wheaton has opportunity in the Windy City. But for now his fantasy value is rather negligible.

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 06:19:33 -0700
Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (finger) appears to be a longshot to play in Week 2's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Fantasy Tip: Wheaton was a limited participant in the team's three practice sessions during the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report. Seasonal owners should look for safer options to use this afternoon, while he should be avoided altogether in daily fantasy formats.

Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (finger) is not active for Week 1's game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Fantasy Tip: Wheaton participated in pregame drills but the decision was made to hold him out of the season opener. WRs Kevin White and Kendall Wright should see additional targets versus Atlanta but Wheaton has a good chance to play in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (pinkie) recently underwent surgery to repair his broken left pinkie. Head coach John Fox said there is no timetable for Wheaton's return.
Fantasy Tip: Wheaton has dealt with injuries during training camp and it is not known when he will return to practice this time. Wheaton could be a late-round flier if he wins the No. 2 receiver job for the Bears.

Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (appendix) participated in practice Saturday, Aug. 12.
Fantasy Tip: Wheaton was sidelined for a little more than a week after undergoing an appendectomy but should be able to play in a few of the remaining preseason games. Wheaton has a chance to the Bears' No. 3 receiver this season but is only a late-round flier in fantasy leagues.

Bears | Markus Wheaton will return soon |
Wed, 02 Aug 2017 12:13:27 -0700
Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (appendix) will return to action in two weeks, according to NFL Network's Stacey Dales. Wheaton underwent an appendectomy Sunday, July 30.
Fantasy Tip: The Bears' receiving group is somewhat of a crapshoot right now, although Wheaton will need to earn playing time behind Cameron Meredith and Kevin White. Kendall Wright will be in the mix, too, so Wheaton is merely a late-round flier at this point.

Bears | Markus Wheaton undergoes appendectomy |
Sun, 30 Jul 2017 11:22:25 -0700
Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (appendix) is expected to miss practice this week after undergoing appendectomy Sunday, July 30.
Fantasy Tip: Some athletes can come back from appendectomies within a week or two, while others can take a bit longer. Wheaton is considered the favorite for No. 3 receiver duties behind Cameron Meredith and Kevin White, so hopefully this surgery doesn't cost him too much in terms of conditioning. He can be ignored in most fantasy drafts, however.

Bears | Markus Wheaton has good chance to start |
Thu, 22 Jun 2017 07:22:46 -0700
Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton likely has a good chance to start on the outside for the team. The Pittsburgh Steelers used Wheaton in the slot, but he wasn't nearly as productive as he was on the outside.
Fantasy Tip: Wheaton's best season came two years ago with a 44-749-5 line, and he won't have the likes of Ben Roethlisberger throwing to him. He's worthy of monitoring as a WR5, but he doesn't provide the upside many others would in that role for your team.

Chicago Bears WRs Cameron Meredith (thumb), Kevin White and Markus Wheaton (shoulder) are considered locks to make the 53-man roster, in the opinion of Chicago Tribune writer Dan Wiederer. Fri, 10 Mar 2017 15:49:56 -0800
Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton (shoulder) said he expects to be fully recovered from his shoulder surgery by April.
Fantasy Tip: Wheaton could miss some offseason workouts but should be ready for the start of training camp. He could serve as the No. 3 receiver for the Bears next season but should only be considered as a depth player for owners in deeper leagues.

Thu, 09 Mar 2017 15:40:17 -0800
Free-agent WR Markus Wheaton (Steelers) agreed to terms with the Chicago Bears on Thursday, March 9, according to a source.

Tue, 28 Feb 2017 14:35:14 -0800
Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent WR Markus Wheaton has been shown little interest as far as being re-signed, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Fantasy Tip: One can understand the lack of excitement in the possibility of bringing back Wheaton. He only played in three games in what was supposed to be a breakout year. He's only worth a late-round flier wherever he lands.

Steelers | PIT not expected to re-sign Markus Wheaton |
Tue, 21 Feb 2017 18:34:43 -0800
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton is not expected to be back with the team next season, "unless he has no other decent offers and returns for minimum salary," according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Fantasy Tip: Wheaton will become an unrestricted free agent March 9, but no matter where he lands, he shouldn't even be considered as a potential draft pick in deep leagues. The 26-year-old was limited to just three games this past season due to a shoulder ailment, registering only four receptions for 51 yards. He should get a shot with some other NFL club, though.

Steelers | Markus Wheaton has surgery |
Mon, 02 Jan 2017 08:49:20 -0800
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton (shoulder) underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder, and recovery time is three months.
Fantasy Tip: Wheaton squandered a couple of opportunities the last couple of seasons with key guys out, and his fantasy stock is pretty low for next season. If Martavis Bryant is reinstated, Wheaton may have a tough time making the club.

Steelers | Markus Wheaton placed on IR |
Sat, 19 Nov 2016 11:22:29 -0800
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton (shoulder) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Nov. 19.
Fantasy Tip: Eli Rogers and Ladarius Green should have bigger roles in the passing game with Wheaton out for the rest of the season. Rogers could be a flex option in deeper leagues but probably does not have a lot of value in standard leagues. Green could be a low-end No. 1 tight end against favorable matchups.
