Rams | Tavon Austin still limited

Thu, 29 Sep 2016 20:11:34 -0700

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin (shoulder) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Austin can make big plays as a receiver, runner and returner, but he is a boom-or-bust WR3.

Rams | Tavon Austin limited in practice

Wed, 28 Sep 2016 18:56:08 -0700

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin (shoulder) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Austin has been targeted frequently, and occasionally he finds the ball on his hands in rushing opportunities, too. The Rams understand they have a dynamic playmaker, and are trying to get him the ball more. For now, he is more of a WR4 in most fantasy leagues because the targets are nice, but he has a low conversion rate as far as catches are concerned. Until that improves, he is more of a depth fantasy player than a centerpiece.

Rams | Tavon Austin doing little with a lot

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 13:09:03 -0700

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin is seventh among wide receivers with 21 targets through two weeks, but he has caught only nine passes for 63 yards.

Fantasy Tip: The volume is there, but Austin just hasn't gotten things going yet. The Rams as a whole have been stagnant on offense, which is a large part of Austin's early struggles. He has more value in return yardage leagues, but don't give up on him just yet. He faces a Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense that has yielded five touchdowns to wide receivers this year.

Rams | Five touches for Tavon Austin

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 22:54:02 -0700

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin collected four receptions for 13 yards in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers and he added one run for two yards.

Fantasy Tip: It was an ugly night for the Rams offense, and Austin couldn't shake free in the mostly horizontal offensive attack. He has WR2 ability in fantasy leagues, but with shaky quarterback play he is more like a WR4 right now.

Rams | Tavon Austin lands huge extension

Sat, 27 Aug 2016 15:38:32 -0700

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin is close to signing a four-year extension worth $42 million, including $30 million guaranteed, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Tip: For an offense bereft of playmakers in the passing game, the Rams had little choice but to lock up Austin. Still, it seems like a pretty good chunk of change for a receiver who had as many carries last year as receptions (52 apiece, both career highs). The size of this contract suggests Los Angeles will continue finding ways to feed him the ball into space in order to take some pressure off Todd Gurley. While he figures to be inconsistent in fantasy again this year, he's a serviceable WR3 in most leagues.

Rams | Pharoh Cooper locked into starting role?

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 20:24:08 -0700

Los Angeles Rams WR Pharoh Cooper, WR Kenny Britt and WR Tavon Austin are currently the top three receivers, head coach Jeff Fisher said.

Fantasy Tip: The Rams' run-first offense won't do him any favors, but with Cooper set to be on the field in three-receiver sets, he could be worth a late-round gamble in PPR formats.

Rams | Tavon Austin cramping up

Sun, 31 Jul 2016 18:13:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin (leg) was dehydrated a suffered a leg cramp during practice Sunday, July 31, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Fantasy Tip: If you are an Austin owner, you can breathe a sigh of relief. He came into his own as a versatile offensive weapon last year, and you should feel confident drafting him as a WR3 in 2016.

Rams | Tavon Austin carted off

Sun, 31 Jul 2016 17:38:33 -0700

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin (leg) was carted off the practice field with an apparent leg injury Sunday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: If the injury turns out to be serious, fantasy owners will need to keep an eye on Brian Quick, Mike Thomas and Pharoh Cooper to see if one of them can emerge as a fantasy asset.

Rams | Coach has high hopes for Tavon Austin

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 10:08:05 -0700

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin may be able to double his reception totals in 2016 because opposing defenses will look to stop RB Todd Gurley, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. Austin finished the 2015 season with 52 receptions for 473 yards and five touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Austin will have a solid role in the passing game this upcoming season, but Fisher may be too optimistic with his projection. Austin should be an attractive No. 2 or No. 3 receiver for owners because he also produces in the running game, which helps his fantasy value.

Rams | Tavon Austin's option exercised

Mon, 02 May 2016 11:28:30 -0700

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin's fifth-year option was picked up Monday, May 2, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Austin has had a relatively disappointing career so far for being a top-10 draft pick. He has elite speed and play-making ability, though, and is still worth low-end WR3 or high-end WR4 consideration even with rookie QB Jared Goff.

Rams | Tavon Austin may have option picked up

Sun, 01 May 2016 14:06:26 -0700

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin is expected to have his fifth-year option exercised, but the team hopes to sign him to a long-term extension.

Fantasy Tip: Austin finished the 2015 season with 473 receiving yards, 434 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Austin should be a popular target for Jared Goff in 2016 and could be a middle-round option in most fantasy leagues.

Rams | Tavon Austin struggles in Week 16

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 19:35:49 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin had three catches for 16 yards and three carries for 12 yards in a 23-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Austin has used his versatility to score in a variety of ways this season, but when he doesn't find the end zone, he typically doesn't have the yardage to fall back on. He is a high-risk, high-reward play at FantasyScore.

Rams | Tavon Austin does it all

Thu, 17 Dec 2015 21:18:54 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin finished with three catches for 31 yards and a touchdown and four rushes for 32 yards and a score in a 31-23 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 15.

Fantasy Tip: It was the second time this season that Austin ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) has run for a score and caught a touchdown pass in the same game, and he is up to 10 total touchdowns. He doesn't pile up a ton of yards, which can leave him prone to some duds, but his speed and touchdown potential give him some intriguing upside at FantasyScore.

Rams | Tavon Austin gets seven touches

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 18:34:28 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin had just three receptions for 19 yards in the Week 14 game against the Detroit Lions, but he was effective in the rushing game with four runs for 40 yards.

Fantasy Tip: The Rams try to get the ball into the hands of Austin, but the quarterback play is so shaky that he simply isn't worth the risk anymore.

Rams | Tavon Austin leads STL offense

Sun, 29 Nov 2015 15:39:09 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin had four carries for 63 yards and caught six passes for 33 yards in a 31-7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Tip: Austin ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) had 60 of those rushing yards on one carry, so these numbers are a little misleading. The impoverished state of the St. Louis offense showed through in this game. Austin's price is still a little too high for most FantasyScore players.

Rams | Tavon Austin bottled up in loss

Sun, 22 Nov 2015 15:58:27 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin was held to just one reception for five yards in the Week 11 game against the Baltimore Ravens. He was targeted five times, and he also had one run for 16 yards while losing a fumble on special teams.

Fantasy Tip: Austin has been a boom or bust player this season. When he is bad, he is really bad. With a murky quarterback situation in St. Louis, it's best to go another way for fantasy purposes if you can help it.

Rams | Tavon Austin disappears in loss

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 18:52:36 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin had two receptions for five yards in the Week 10 game against the Chicago Bears. He was targeted four times.

Fantasy Tip: Austin was bottled up, as the Bears took away the downfield plays. With the addition of Wes Welker to the offense, there will be even fewer targets to go around for the wide receiver corps in St. Louis.

Rams | Tavon Austin runs wild

Sun, 08 Nov 2015 16:54:13 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin had four catches for 15 yards, and he had eight carries for 66 yards in a 21-18 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Austin ($6,700, 13.6% of cap) has been doing enough damage as a receiver and a runner to stay relevant, but there are certainly safer options available in the same price range at FantasyScore.

Rams | New career high for Tavon Austin

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 17:47:22 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin had four catches for 98 yards and a touchdown and three carries for 21 yards and a touchdown in a 27-6 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8, and he now has a career-high seven touchdowns for the year.

Fantasy Tip: Austin ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) keeps finding ways to reach the end zone, but he is still a boom-or-bust option at FantasyScore because such a large portion of his value depends on him scoring a touchdown.

Rams | Tavon Austin ready to play

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 09:12:05 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (hamstring) is officially active for the Week 7 game against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Austin's ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) injury will affect his play, but owners can still consider him as a starting option since he should receive several targets.

Rams | Tavon Austin expected to play

Sat, 24 Oct 2015 07:01:52 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (hamstring) appears to be ready to play in the Week 7 game against the Cleveland Browns after he returned to practice Friday, Oct. 23. He is officially listed as questionable for the game.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to look at the inactive list to see if Austin ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) will be able to play. Austin will have a favorable matchup if he is active because the Browns will be missing several of their defensive backs. He could be a solid starting option for fantasy owner if he plays.

Rams | Tavon Austin's status in question

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 14:39:13 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (thigh) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 23, and is listed as questionable for the Week 7 game against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: Austin ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) appears to have a chance to play this week since he returned to practice Friday. Austin will be a risky option because of the injury but could be a solid starting option since he should be one of the main targets if he is active.

Rams | Tavon Austin, Tre Mason out again

Thu, 22 Oct 2015 14:33:51 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (thigh) and RB Tre Mason (ankle) both missed practice for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 22. However, the Rams didn't actually practice Thursday, so their designations are an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: It's discouraging that Austin ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) hasn't practiced yet this week. Keep an eye on his status tomorrow. If he plays Sunday, he's not a bad midrange receiver on FantasyScore. Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is truly a deep sleeper and probably won't see enough touches behind Todd Gurley to be relevant.

Rams | Tre Mason, Tavon Austin miss practice

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 15:54:50 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) and WR Tavon Austin (thigh) both did not take part in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Fantasy Tip: It's unknown exactly how serious Austin's ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) injury is, so check back for more updates. The Cleveland Browns are decent matchup against receivers and both of their top two cornerbacks are ailing, so Austin is a fine daily choice if he's healthy enough. Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has just four carries in the last two games and should be a very low-end running option.

Rams | Tavon Austin scores twice

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 20:24:50 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin had six catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-22 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Austin ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) more than doubled his receiving yards from the first three games combined, and while he possesses game-breaking speed, he has yet to prove he can make an impact on a routine basis. He is still a roll-of-the-dice play at FantasyScore.

Rams | Five grabs for Tavon Austin

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 16:43:10 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin posted five receptions for 38 yards in the Week 3 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Austin ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) did very little for FantasyScore players, and is clear second fiddle to Kenny Britt in the St. Louis receiver pecking order. Unless Britt goes down to injury, Austin isn't a recommended option at this time.

Rams | OC impressed with Tavon Austin

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 07:59:08 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin was impressive during the offseason workouts, according to offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti. "Tavon Austin's had a great offseason," Cignetti said. "It starts in the classroom. He's learning. He's paying attention. He's bringing it to the practice field. You just see it from his route running. What a difference. His effort, his attention to details. Every day out there, the guy's made plays."

Fantasy Tip: Austin is expected to become more involved in the offense this season. He had 31 catches for only 242 yards and zero touchdowns in 15 games in 2014. Austin could be an option in the late-rounds of drafts this season but will not be a weekly starting option.

Rams | Tavon Austin ready to step up?

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 19:26:32 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin said that he isn't worried about his struggles in his first two NFL seasons and is ready to step up in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Austin has elite speed, but the Rams haven't figured out the best way to involve him in the offense just yet. Still, he has big-play potential, and he is worth gambling on when you fill out your bench during the later rounds of drafts.

Rams | Tavon Austin to be more involved

Fri, 13 Feb 2015 14:44:59 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin will be more involved in the offense next season, according to offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti.

Fantasy Tip: Austin did not have a big impact in the passing game this past season with 34 yards as his season-high in receiving yards. He did rush for two touchdowns and averaged 6.2 yards per carry. Owners probably should consider Austin as a No. 4 wide receiver with upside in drafts next season.

Rams | Rams to decide on Chris Givens' future

Sun, 08 Feb 2015 17:19:14 -0800

St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens is scheduled to have a base salary of $1.574 million with a cap count of $1.698 million. The team might deem it too much if Givens is the fifth receiver in a group with WRs Kenny Britt, Brian Quick, Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey. Releasing Givens would save the team $1.574 million.

Fantasy Tip: Whether he stays or goes Givens is unlikely to be much of an impact player for fantasy owners in 2015.

Hayes did not practice Friday, Dec. 5. Austin was limited, while the others practiced in full.

Rams | Tavon Austin quiet in loss

Sun, 05 Oct 2014 18:33:13 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (knee) was active in Week 5 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, and he had two receptions for 33 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Austin entered the season as the team's primary target, but Brian Quick now appears to sit atop the depth chart at this point. Austin can be a downfield threat, but he has a ways to go before fantasy owners can trust him on a regular basis.

Rams | Tavon Austin returning

Sun, 05 Oct 2014 06:23:57 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Austin ($3,100; 6.2% of your cap) is worth considering as a cheap flex option against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Rams | Tavon Austin questionable

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 13:50:30 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (knee) was a limited participant in practice Friday, Oct. 3, and he is listed as questionable for Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fantasy Tip: Austin ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has high-risk, high-reward potential as a flex play in FantasyScore contests in Week 5 against the shaky Eagles' defense. You'll want to make sure he is active before finalizing your rosters, though.

Rams | Tavon Austin limited in practice

Thu, 02 Oct 2014 18:53:43 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (knee) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 2.

Fantasy Tip: If Austin does suit up, he is still a risky play at FantasyScore in Week 5. He will take up just 6.2% of the cap ($3,100), but even at his small price tag, Austin could struggle to make an impact in a St. Louis offense that is still trying to figure out its identity with Austin Davis under center.

Rams | Tavon Austin limited

Wed, 01 Oct 2014 14:24:16 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will find out more about his availability over the next day or two. Austin could be limited by his injury if he is active for the game. Austin costs $4,000 on FantasyScore, but owners should consider using their money elsewhere.

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 17:29:14 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: It appears like Austin will not be able to play in Week 3, but things could change if he practices Friday, Sept. 19. Brian Quick and Jared Cook could be more involved in the passing game this week. Cook costs $4,500 on FantasyScore and could be a cheaper option at the position. Quick costs $5,500 and could be a No. 3 receiver or flex option for owners.

Rams | Tavon Austin doesn't practice

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 14:39:46 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 17.

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (knee) is dealing with a mild knee sprain but has a chance to play in Week 3, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will get a better idea about Austin's status as the practice week goes on. Austin could be limited by the injury if he is active for the game, so owners could look to use another wide receiver in their lineups.

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (knee) has been diagnosed with a sprained medial collateral ligament and is expected to miss around two weeks, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Brian Quick and Chris Givens could get some added fantasy value because of the injury. Both could be options on FantasyScore this week depending on their price, but they could also be hard to count on because of the quarterback situation with the Rams.

Sun, 24 Aug 2014 13:10:07 -0700

St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford (knee) is out for the season after an MRI revealed a torn left anterior cruciate ligament.

Fantasy Tip: Zac Stacy will be relied upon even heavier with Shaun Hill as the quarterback. Stacy is a low-end RB2. Tavon Austin's stock could take a slight hit, but he remains a solid WR4. Kenny Britt is still worth a late-round flier as a WR5.

St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens has been surpassed on the depth chart by WRs Kenny Britt, Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey and Brian Quick, and Givens may be a bubble in terms of final roster cuts.

Fantasy Tip: Givens has promise, but there is a logjam at the position. Bailey is suspended the first four games, and Givens has a chance to prove himself again. Givens is a final-round flier as a WR5 or WR6.

Rams | Tavon Austin discusses learning the game

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 20:48:21 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin admitted that he was lost as a rookie in 2013, struggling to pick up the playbook. The No. 8 overall pick said it was like a foreign language to him but added that now he has a much better grasp of the system. "I understand the plays, the depth, the routes, the splits and everything," Austin said. "I just feel good that I can make some plays. Definitely, the game's slowed down for me."

Fantasy Tip: The coaching staff is working in creative ways to get Austin the ball in space, but they also know he is not an every-down player and won't use him that way. He is a high-risk, high-reward WR3 in PPR leagues.

Rams | Expanding Tavon Austin's role

Tue, 24 Jun 2014 05:40:46 -0700

St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer hinted the team will expand WR Tavon Austin's role this season. "Moving him around to a lot of different spots," Schottenheimer said. "You'll see us hand him the ball, do some different things. He's playing so much faster just because he knows what we're doing. He has the system down cold."

Fantasy Tip: Austin's big-play ability makes him a WR3 with WR2 potential. He may frustrate you with consistency on a week-to-week basis, but his home run ability is undeniable.

Rams | Happy with current WRs

Wed, 11 Jun 2014 09:53:56 -0700

The St. Louis Rams did not select a wide receiver with any of their 12 selections in this year's draft, and head coach Jeff Fisher said they are happy and confident with the group of young receivers they have on their roster. St. Louis ranked 29th in the league in receiving yards last year, 26th in yards per catch and were tied for 20th in receiving touchdowns. WR Tavon Austin came on strong late in his rookie year, and WRs Chris Givens and Brian Quick are expected to do more in their third seasons with QB Sam Bradford coming off an injury. WR Stedman Bailey will miss the first four games of the season due to a suspension, but the team also took a chance on WR Kenny Britt.

Fantasy Tip: Austin should be primed to take the next step in his sophomore season. One of the big reasons why the Rams' offense sputtered so much over the course of the season was because Bradford wasn't around. With a healthy Bradford, all of St. Louis' aerial weapons should benefit.

Rams | Expect improvement from Tavon Austin

Mon, 31 Mar 2014 12:39:12 -0700

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said he expects WR Tavon Austin to improve this upcoming season, because he will have a full offseason to learn the offense. "I think another year in the program, in the offense, OTAs, training camp, you'll see more production. I think we'll do a better job of using him now that we know what he's capable of doing. Kind of looking forward to see him improve from year one to year two," Fisher said.
