Detroit Lions DE Ezekiel Ansah is grasping the defensive scheme quickly. "You know, we don't have a real complex scheme for defensive line, but that's a relative term," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. "You know, there's still a lot for rookies to have to go through and learn, and he's done a great job managing all of it. He's very serious about what he does, hard worker, you know, works hard both on and off the field. He just naturally has a knack for picking up the game, and he knocked down a pass (on Tuesday). He did some really good things."

The Detroit Lions are cramming as much football knowledge as they can into first-round pick DL Ezekiel Ansah. "It's all new to him," coach Jim Schwartz said. "We did talk about how Ziggy was an inexperienced player, but he was very instinctive playing things like screens and reverses and some trap blocks and draws and things like that that you would think an inexperienced player would struggle on. He did well on all those things."

The Detroit Lions attempted to shop the No. 5 overall selection in the NFL Draft in hopes of moving down a few spots before finally deciding to select DE Ezekiel Ansah. The Lions spoke with the Buffalo Bills, who held the No. 8 overall pick; however, the Bills had no interest.

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said he expects the teams high draft picks to be on the field quickly because of the needs of the team. "That's a fair statement, but it's also fair to say we had more holes coming into it, or more holes that we knew about, coming into this draft than we did last year," Mayhew said. "We do expect a lot of those guys, especially guys that we took early, to be on the field pretty quickly." First-round pick DE Ezekiel Ansah was drafted to replace DE Kyle Vanden Bosch. Second round pick CB Darius Slay will compete with CB Bill Bentley. Third round pick OG Larry Warford will likely replace OG Stephen Peterman.

Fantasy Tip: The Lions' secondary is still a work in progress, so they're going to rely on a talented but unpolished pass rusher to improve their pass D. They might generate more sacks this way with that new front line, so they may become more playable eventually in big-play-leaning formats for DTs.
