The San Diego Chargers have signed second-round draft choice LB Manti Te'o, third-round draft choice WR Keenan Allen, sixth-round draft choice DE Tourek Williams and seventh-round draft choice QB Brad Sorensen. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

San Diego Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said he considers LB Manti Te'o someone very capable of staying on the field on passing downs at the NFL level. "Manti was an excellent third-down player at the college level, especially in zones, especially in his football awareness as far as knowing where routes are coming from, knowing where to pass off a route and pick up another," Telesco said. "He has an innate sense of knowing where people are coming from, not only to take on blocks and avoid blocks but as far as pass receivers coming through his zones. He has the capability of being a three-down linebacker."

San Diego Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said LB Manti Te'o has one of the highest football IQs he has ever been around. He said Te'o excelled in zones, had great football awareness and an innate sense of where to be. However, Telesco said it remains to be seen whether Te'o is able to excel in third-down situations as a rookie or if it will come in time.

Notre Dame LB Manti Te'o has reportedly fallen off one NFL team's draft board due to off-field baggage and lack of talent. "We've kind of taken him off the board," said one league scout. "He doesn't have enough ability to put up with all that. Why fool with it? Try-hard, smart (Wonderlic of 23) guy. This was the first year he's really gotten himself in shape. Some of his teammates think he's kind of a phony."
