Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson will be given an opportunity to earn a starting wide receiver spot across from WR Greg Jennings this year, according to head coach Leslie Frazier. WR Joe Webb will be insurance in case Patterson doesn't pan out.
Fantasy Tip: It's tough to predict Patterson's fantasy value heading into his rookie season. Aside from Greg Jennings, Christian Ponder doesn't have much to work with at wideout, and Kyle Rudolph will remain a big target in the passing game. Patterson is a bit of a project and will have to improve his route-running skills dramatically to make an impact immediately. Consider him a late-round flier in deep leagues.

There are reportedly some red flags regarding Tennessee WR Cordarrelle Patterson's value heading into the NFL Draft. Evaluators love his size and athleticism, but he also has some mental hurdles to overcome. "Mentally, it's going to be a project," according to one league personnel man. "Running routes, he doesn't know how to do any of that stuff. You may have to keep it simple for him, but this is football. It's not building a super glider or anything." An AFC personnel director added, "Toward the end of the year, they started to go away from running Patterson down the field on routes and gave him the ball on reverses and screens, even as a halfback at times. That starts to put a question mark in your head. Why? Well, there's reasons, and it's just not being as proficient with his route-running and not having the ability to make adjustments during the game."

The Pittsburgh Steelers will make wide receiver a top priority in this year's draft with TE Heath Miller (knee) injured and WRs Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders both similar receivers that won't strike fear in opposing secondaries due to their lack of threat on the deep routes. California WR Keenan Allen may be a target, as he's considered a top-15 pick.
