Padres | Austin Hedges starting against Angels

Wed, 27 May 2015 14:57:52 -0700

San Diego Padres C Austin Hedges is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Wednesday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Hedges ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has only received 16 plate appearances this season, so he should be viewed as nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief by FantasyScore players Wednesday.

Padres | Derek Norris off Saturday

Sat, 23 May 2015 16:00:48 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris has the day off Saturday, May 23, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. C Austin Hedges will start behind the plate and bat eighth in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Hedges ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) doesn't require much consideration on FantasyScore due to his position in the order. Hedges has just two major league hits this season, and he is yet to draw a walk.

Padres | Derek Norris with night off

Sat, 16 May 2015 14:07:32 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris is out of the lineup Saturday, May 16, in favor of C Austin Hedges.

Fantasy Tip: Hedges ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is 2-for-10 with a couple of RBI in his first taste of the majors. He draws Max Scherzer today, so no thanks on FantasyScore.

Padres | Austin Hedges starts with bang

Wed, 06 May 2015 21:39:55 -0700

San Diego Padres C Austin Hedges made his first major league start Wednesday, May 6, against the San Francisco Giants. He went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Fantasy Tip: Hedges ($1,900; 3.8% of cap) hit well at Triple-A, and he picked up his first two career RBIs in this one. If he keeps getting chances he is worth a roll of the dice at this price level, or let's call it the 'Hedges Fund' and see if we can get it to catch on.

Padres | Derek Norris resting Wednesday

Wed, 06 May 2015 10:03:25 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris is taking the day off Wednesday, May 6. C Austin Hedges is seeing his first major league start and is hitting eighth in the batting order against San Francisco Giants SP Chris Heston.

Fantasy Tip: Hedges ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is one the Padres' top overall prospects, and he may find his way into the lineup occasionally with the Friars getting creative with Norris. Consider him a sleeper pick at FantasyScore today while he's making his first ever big league start.

Padres | Austin Hedges expected to start Wednesday

Wed, 06 May 2015 09:51:19 -0700

San Diego Padres C Austin Hedges is expected to get his first major league start against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, May 6.

Fantasy Tip: Hedges ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) should now be owned in all NL-only leagues, and he could have some value in really deep mixed leagues if the Padres find a way to get his stick in the lineup regularly. Against Chris Heston and the Giants Wednesday, Hedges will surely be a sleeper play, but he could return nice value in his first big league start.

Padres | Derek Norris to play 1B?

Wed, 06 May 2015 09:49:13 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris could start taking ground balls at first base in pre-game drills and could see time there this year, according to manager Bud Blacks. Black said it's more of a move to add to Norris' versatility and it would provide an opportunity to rest him from the rigors of catching while keeping his bat in the lineup. Black said it would likely happen against some left-handed pitchers. Norris has played just four innings at first base in his big league career. A move to first base for Norris could also give C Austin Hedges more chances to crack the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Norris ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has played well in his new digs to start the year, going 31-for-100 (.310) with two home runs and 16 RBI. Moving to first base occasionally would make him even more valuable to fantasy owners in all cases as he adds multi-position eligibility.

Padres | Austin Hedges to start Wednesday

Tue, 05 May 2015 20:21:57 -0700

San Diego Padres C Austin Hedges will make his first career start Wednesday, May 6, against the San Francisco Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Hedges is one of the top catching prospects in the majors, and he could emerge as a strong FantasyScore play in future weeks if he continues to get a chance to play and if he can hit like he did in the minors.

Padres | Austin Hedges being recalled to San Diego

Mon, 04 May 2015 13:19:15 -0700

San Diego Padres C Austin Hedges was recalled from Triple-A El Paso Monday, May 4.

Fantasy Tip: Hedges posted a .324/.392/.521 slash line with two homers, eight doubles, 15 RBI, eight walks and eight strikeouts in 21 games at Triple-A El Paso. However, Derek Norris has started 22 of 26 games behind the dish and has hit extremely well. Expect Hedges to be eased into action, and therefore, his fantasy value lies more in spot starting in FantasyScore contests and not seasonal leagues.
