Padres | Austin Hedges to start Wednesday

Tue, 05 May 2015 20:21:57 -0700

San Diego Padres C Austin Hedges will make his first career start Wednesday, May 6, against the San Francisco Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Hedges is one of the top catching prospects in the majors, and he could emerge as a strong FantasyScore play in future weeks if he continues to get a chance to play and if he can hit like he did in the minors.

Padres | Austin Hedges being recalled to San Diego

Mon, 04 May 2015 13:19:15 -0700

San Diego Padres C Austin Hedges was recalled from Triple-A El Paso Monday, May 4.

Fantasy Tip: Hedges posted a .324/.392/.521 slash line with two homers, eight doubles, 15 RBI, eight walks and eight strikeouts in 21 games at Triple-A El Paso. However, Derek Norris has started 22 of 26 games behind the dish and has hit extremely well. Expect Hedges to be eased into action, and therefore, his fantasy value lies more in spot starting in FantasyScore contests and not seasonal leagues.

Padres | Austin Hedges promoted to AA

Wed, 31 Jul 2013 10:34:50 -0700

San Diego Padres C Austin Hedges, considered by MLB.com to be the No. 3 catching prospect in baseball and the organization's No. 2 overall prospect, has been promoted from Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore to Double-A Altoona. The move is based at least in part on the fact that San Antonio Missions C Robert Kral (undisclosed) is injured. Hedges was hitting .267 with three home runs and 26 RBIs for Lake Elsinore.

Fantasy Tip: Hedges is known more for his work behind the plate than beside it. Still, the soon-to-be 21-year-old continues to rise steadily and may be an NL-only asset in a few years.
