Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Bill Callahan said the team has been impressed with how quickly C Travis Frederick has picked things up during offseason workouts. "You tell him one time, and he gets it," Callahan said. "He may err on occasion, but he's not a repetitive error guy. He's not going to make the same mistake twice. He listens, he learns. He understands the situations that he's in and he can fix it on the move. He can rectify them pretty quick. So it's been a real positive from that sense."

Dallas Cowboys C Phil Costa said he understands that he will have to compete with C Travis Frederick for the starting center job this offseason but is ready for the competition. "I look at it that it's the NFL and every year there's going to be competition, and competition brings out the best in anyone," Costa said. "I met Travis and he seems like a great guy who's a good player and can help our team, help our offense get better. So I'm looking forward to it."

Dallas Cowboys C Travis Frederick said he expects to be fine with shotgun snaps even though he did not perform them much while with the University of Wisconsin. "I think because it's featured a little more in this offense we're going to practice it more, so I don't think it's something to worry about," Frederick said. "I think I'll handle that fine."

Dallas Cowboys C Travis Frederick worked at center and guard during practice Friday, May 10. It is not known where Frederick will play this season but it appears like the team wants him to start.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones overruled head coach Jason Garrett and said C Travis Frederick will start for the team. "I had hoped we could come out of this thing with a legitimate starter, a legitimate starter, and he will start," Jones said of Frederick, who can also play guard. "He will start. First-rounder and not starting? I know coach wants there to be competition and should be, and we all know that's the way it is." Garrett had only said he hoped to create competition at the position.
