Angels | Jefry Marte, Gregorio Petit both in lineup

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 14:24:31 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Jefry Marte is starting at first base and batting fifth, and 2B Gregorio Petit is starting in left field and batting eighth against Kansas City Royals SP Danny Duffy Wednesday, July 27. Angels 1B Ji-Man Choi and OF Daniel Nava are not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: These are all low-end option in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, so there is limited fantasy value here. Marte does have some power upside, and hitting behind the four best players on the team improves his value in daily contests.

Angels | Ji-Man Choi not playing Wednesday

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 15:25:59 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Ji-Man Choi is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 20. 3B Jefry Marte is playing first base and is batting fifth against Texas Rangers SP Martin Perez.

Fantasy Tip: Marte should only be owned in the deepest of AL-only leagues for bench depth, as he's batting just .224 (24-for-107) with five home runs and 14 RBI. He doesn't play much, either, and that's really saying something considering the Angels have one of the thinnest rosters in the majors due to injuries.

Angels | Several Halos regulars resting Sunday

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 07:42:04 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava, 2B Johnny Giavotella and C Jett Bandy are not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman Sunday, July 10. INF Jefry Marte will bat fifth and play first base, 1B/OF Ji-Man Choi will start in left field and hit sixth, C Geovany Soto will start behind the plate and bat eighth and INF Gregorio Petit will hit ninth and play second base.

Fantasy Tip: Soto is making his first appearance since being activated from the disabled list due to a torn meniscus in his right knee and should be avoided in his first game back. Marte and Choi are both batting well below the Mendoza line this season and are not worthy of consideration for daily fantasy lineups, while Petit is nothing more than a source of emergency cap relief.

Angels | Ji-Man Choi starting at first base

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 11:54:15 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Ji-Man Choi will bat sixth and play first base against Baltimore Orioles SP Yovani Gallardo Saturday, July 9.

Fantasy Tip: Choi was just 1-for-18 in a previous stint with the Halos earlier this season and should be avoided in all fantasy formats Saturday.

Angels | C.J. Cron placed on DL

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 08:24:57 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B C.J. Cron (hand) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, July 9, because of a broken hand. The team also recalled 1B Ji-Man Choi from Class AAA Salt Lake.

Fantasy Tip: Cron will miss multiple weeks because of the injury, but owners should keep an eye out for a possible timetable for him. Owners should keep him on their roster if they can because he was playing well before the injury. Jefry Marte should see more playing time because of the injury and will have value in deeper mixed leagues. Choi likely will be a bench player and is an AL-only player at this point.

Angels | Daniel Nava, Johnny Giavotella out

Sun, 08 May 2016 11:07:59 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava and 2B Johnny Giavotella are not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese Sunday, May 8. SS Cliff Pennington will start at second base and is batting seventh, while OF Ji-Man Choi will start in left field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Pennington has gone 3-for-12 with zero RBI in five games this month and is not a great fantasy option in most leagues. Choi is hitting only .067 this season and should be avoided in all leagues.

Angels | Daniel Nava back this weekend?

Mon, 02 May 2016 16:21:05 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava (knee) will begin his rehab assignment with Class A Inland Empire Monday, May 2, and he could be ready to come off the disabled list this weekend. He's expected to resume his role as the starting left fielder against right-handed pitchers. OF Rafael Ortega or 1B Ji-Man Choi are the options to be sent down when Nava returns. Choi, a Rule 5 pick, can't be optioned or the Angels will lose him.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that Nava is guaranteed to return to the strong side of a platoon when he's ready since the Angels don't have any better options. The bad news is that Nava doesn't help fantasy owners very much in any one particular category. He's strictly AL-only fodder for outfield depth.

Angels | C.J. Cron, Johnny Giavotella sitting

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 14:58:25 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B C.J. Cron and 2B Johnny Giavotella are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27. 1B Ji-Man Choi is serving as the designated hitter and is batting ninth, while SS Cliff Pennington is at the keystone and is hitting seventh against Kansas City Royals SP Chris R. Young.

Fantasy Tip: Giavotella and Pennington are likely locked into a platoon and should only be rostered in the deepest AL-only leagues, with Pennington being the more attractive one. Choi, a switch-hitter, has only one hit in nine at-bats off the bench this year and is a very weak daily target tonight.

Angels | Mike Trout serving as DH

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 14:51:16 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout (foot) is serving as the designated hitter for the first time this year Monday, April 25, after fouling a ball off his foot over the weekend. OF Rafael Ortega is in center field and is batting second, while 1B Ji-Man Choi is in left field and is hitting ninth against Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy. 1B C.J. Cron also takes a seat with 1B Albert Pujols at first base.

Fantasy Tip: Start Trout as you normally would in all fantasy formats. His foot isn't a problem after he started Sunday. Ortega and Choi haven't done much with the bats in Anaheim and are weak daily plays against Kennedy, who is out to a fine start with KC.
