Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said Mike Kafka has "just as good an opportunity" to win the starting QB jon as Blaine Gabbert, Chad Henne or undrafted rookie Matt Scott. Caldwell had considered signing Kafka earlier in the offseason. The New England Patriots signed him but cut him when they signed Tim Tebow.
Fantasy Tip: The Jags' skills players won't be fun fantasy plays this year, and whoever wins this skirmish shouldn't be anything more than a desperation fantasy backup.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon has met with head coach Gus Bradley and general manager David Caldwell after getting suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season. Blackmon has been a student in the team's facility since the suspension, and the team still believes in him.
Fantasy Tip: It is a good sign for the team that Blackmon has spent so much time in the facility after the suspension was announced. Still, one has to think that any more off field issues could hurt the team's faith in him.

Free-agent CB Charles Woodson (Packers) may have difficulty landing with a new team this offseason, according to Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell. "I think it will be tough," said Caldwell, who isn't interested in signing Woodson. "But it only takes one team that says, 'Hey, this is a big need for us. This is our year and he may give us a (lift).' He still has a little juice in his legs." An unnamed scout added he has concerns whether Woodson is a leader. "To me, he's got another year or two left in the tank, probably in a situational playing capacity as an inside player. I think he could start at safety, but you'd be worried a little bit. Safety is the last line of defense," the scout said. "The more people I talk to, he's a veteran presence, yes. But that leadership element? Maybe not."

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said QB Blaine Gabbert is not considered the incumbent starting quarterback. "It's going to be a wide-open competition," Caldwell said of the team's starting quarterback spot. The general manager added that there is plenty to like about Gabbert. "There are some really good things to get excited about with Blaine in terms of his size, his arm strength and athleticism," Caldwell said.

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said the team may not be overly active in free agency, but will be active in the right circumstances. "The important thing is for us to be prepared, and when opportunity presents itself, we're ready to strike on that," Caldwell said Thursday. "We may not be overly active chasing (players), but we're going to be active looking for the right opportunities, whether that's in the draft or free agency."

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said the team will evaluate RB Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) before determining his role in the offense moving forward. "That's going to be an evaluation process. He needs to get healthy first," Caldwell said. "He needs to get on the field and we're going to need a full body of work to evaluate him."
