Washington Nationals 3B Matthew Skole (elbow) arrived and participated in a workout Sunday, Feb. 16. He missed the entire 2013 season, and is making his way back from elbow surgery. He put on a power display in batting practice, and manager Matt Williams compared Skole to former big leaguer 1B Jim Thome. "He's got a bright future," Williams said.

Washington Nationals INF Matthew Skole has been crushing batting practice balls in camp and is very strong. Scouts are convinced that Skole's bat will play in the majors, but his position is up for debate. One scout thinks Skole will eventually move over to first base, but the team thinks he's improved his footwork enough to stay at third base.

Updating a previous report, the Washington Nationals are hesitant to give free-agent 1B Adam LaRoche (Nationals) a third year because one, he might be past his prime making too much money to deal in 2015, and two, the team will most likely have prospect 1B Matthew Skole at first base by then. Skole was the team's Minor League Player of the Year in 2012, splitting time between Class A Hagerstown and Class A Potomac. Skole belted 27 home runs with 104 RBIs last season.
