New York Jets WR Stephen Hill (knee) is questionable for Week 14. OG Willie Colon (calf), CB Antonio Cromartie (hip), DT Kenrick Ellis (back), WR Jeremy Kerley (elbow), C Nick Mangold (wrist), LB Garrett McIntyre (knee), CB Dee Milliner (wrist), WR Greg Salas (finger), QB Geno Smith (wrist), DE Muhammad Wilkerson (wrist) and TE Kellen Winslow (knee) are probable. Cromartie and Winslow were limited in practice Friday, Dec. 6, while the others practiced in full.

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (wrist) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Mon, 02 Dec 2013 11:41:37 -0800
New York Jets QB Geno Smith will get the start in the team's Week 14 game against the Oakland Raiders.
Fantasy Tip: Smith has struggled the last few weeks but will get another chance to start Week 14. He should not be a starting option for owners this week because of his struggles as well as the team's inconsistent options at wide receiver.
Mon, 02 Dec 2013 09:36:15 -0800
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan is not naming a starting quarterback between QBs Geno Smith and Matt Simms for Week 14. "It's safe to say that we'll put the guys in who we think give us the best chance to be successful," Ryan said. "That's the way it is and will be moving forward." Smith had just 29 first-half passing yards and an interception in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins before being benched in favor of Simms. Simms threw for 50 yards and an interception in the second half.
Fantasy Tip: It would be wise to stay as far away from this situation as possible.
Sun, 01 Dec 2013 14:43:21 -0800
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan benched QB Geno Smith after the first half of the Week 13 game against the Miami Dolphins. Smith completed just four of his 10 passes for 29 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. QB Matt Simms replaced him, completing nine of his 18 pass attempts for 79 yards, no touchdowns and a pick.
Mon, 25 Nov 2013 14:02:37 -0800
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said QB Geno Smith will be the starting quarterback Week 13.
Mon, 25 Nov 2013 12:41:13 -0800

Sun, 24 Nov 2013 13:51:23 -0800
New York Jets QB Geno Smith managed just four completions for 42 yards in the Week 12 game against the Baltimore Ravens. He also threw two interceptions, giving him 18 for the season. After posting a 10.1 passer rating last week, he posted a 14.7 passer rating against the Ravens. Head coach Rex Ryan would not commit to Smith as his starter after the game.
Sun, 24 Nov 2013 09:16:01 -0800
The New York Jets may look to add a quarterback in the offseason if QB Geno Smith does not have a drastic improvement during the last six games of the season.
Mon, 18 Nov 2013 13:41:48 -0800
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the team will stick with QB Geno Smith as the starter in Week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens. "Without question, Geno's going to start this game," Ryan said. However, Ryan said he could give QB Matt Simms more first-team repetitions in practice this week.
Fantasy Tip: Smith has been wildly inconsistent in his rookie season, which wasn't unexpected. Smith should be nothing more than a crapshoot as a backup QB for fantasy purposes.
Sun, 17 Nov 2013 16:20:20 -0800
New York Jets QB Geno Smith struggled in Week 11 against the Buffalo Bills, completing just eight of his 23 pass attempts for 103 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions. One of the interceptions was returned for a score. Smith has combined for just 377 passing yards with no touchdowns and five interceptions over the past three games. "With that protection, you could've had Joe Namath back there and I don't think it would've mattered today," head coach Rex Ryan said Sunday, Nov. 17. "Obviously, when you turn the ball over four times, that's a poor performance."
Fantasy Tip: Smith has been especially terrible on the road, so if you normally depend on him in fantasy leagues, you'll want to take note of that. He has won just once in five road starts, and he has four touchdowns with nine interceptions away from home.
Sun, 17 Nov 2013 13:33:45 -0800
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said QB Geno Smith will be the starter next week. Smith was benched in the blowout in Week 11.
Sun, 27 Oct 2013 15:43:08 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith was lifted in the fourth quarter of the Week 8 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, as head coach Rex Ryan went with QB Matt Simms to finish up. The score of the game was rather lopsided, but Smith was also victimized for two interceptions for touchdowns.
Thu, 24 Oct 2013 09:43:31 -0700
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan continues to say that QB Geno Smith is the team's starting quarterback on a week-to-week basis despite raving about his improved play and the fact that he can "make all the throws." "I'm definitely ready to say he's our starting quarterback this week against Cincinnati," the coach said playfully. Smith currently has more wins than New York Giants QB Eli Manning, a higher completion percentage than New England Patriots QB Tom Brady and more 40-plus-yard passes than New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees and Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck. However, he's also third in the league in interceptions with 11.
Fantasy Tip: We don't buy that Smith is still on a week-to-week basis as the team's starting QB. This is his team, and they'll sink or swim with him. He'll make for a frustrating play as a backup QB thanks to the learning curve that he'll be on in his rookie season.
Mon, 07 Oct 2013 20:24:12 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith completed 16 of his 20 pass attempts for 199 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 5 win against the Atlanta Falcons Monday, Oct. 7. He also ran three times for 21 yards.
Fantasy Tip: The most important thing was that Smith and the team did not turn the ball over. He made good decisions down the stretch, and he is emerging as a solid fantasy option in leagues which require two starting quarterbacks. He is also trending upward as a viable No. 2 option in standard formats.
Sat, 05 Oct 2013 16:11:41 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith (ankle) fully participated in practice Saturday, Oct. 5, and is listed as probable for Week 5.
Fri, 04 Oct 2013 17:30:22 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith (ankle) was able to practice without limitations Friday, Oct. 4.
Fantasy Tip: Smith appears to be healthy and in line to start Week 5 against the Atlanta Falcons. However, he is only worth fantasy consideration as a low-end QB2 in formats which require two starting signal callers.
Thu, 03 Oct 2013 14:40:37 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith (ankle) practiced in full Thursday, Oct. 3.
Wed, 02 Oct 2013 12:33:27 -0700
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he is considering bringing back the color coded wristband in order to help QB Geno Smith reduce turnovers. The team used a similar approach with QB Mark Sanchez in 2009. The wrist band helps the quarterback determine how aggressive or conservative he should be with a play call. "Hey, whatever it takes," Ryan said, adding: "I've been thinking about it. There's a fine line between being aggressive and being smart with it as well."
Fantasy Tip: While the idea is to help Smith prevent turnovers, it is still tough to trust Smith for more than bye week fill in work at this point as he continues to go through rookie bumps and bruises.
Mon, 30 Sep 2013 12:01:25 -0700
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he will stick with QB Geno Smith despite his rough start against the Tennessee Titans in Week 4. However, Ryan hinted that Smith needs to improve after turning the ball over a season-high four times against the Titans. Smith is tied for the league lead with 11 turnovers through four games. "You can't buy experience, but with that being said, we still have to do a much better job -- Geno, in particular -- of protecting the football at all costs," Ryan said, "You can't be nonchalant about it, you have to protect the ball." QBs Matt Simms and Brady Quinn are the other options, and Simms has zero NFL experience.
Fantasy Tip: We warned you that Smith would have his share of bumps and bruises in his rookie season. Turnovers are part of that equation. His upside is evident, though, and with the right matchups, he could be useful as a bye week filler at QB.

Wed, 25 Sep 2013 14:29:37 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 25.
Fantasy Tip: Nothing suggests that Smith will not be able to play, but he still does not have much fantasy value at this point.
Tue, 24 Sep 2013 06:50:36 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith had four 40-plus-yard completions in Week 3. The team had nine 40-plus-yard completions combined in 2011 and 2012.
Fri, 20 Sep 2013 18:01:05 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith (ankle) practiced in full Friday, Sept. 20, and he is listed as probable for the Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills.
Fantasy Tip: Smith is best treated as a low-end QB2 for the divisional game. The Buffalo pass defense is giving up 228 yards per game through the air, and they have recorded nine sacks to date.
Thu, 19 Sep 2013 15:27:52 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith (ankle) practiced in full Thursday, Sept. 19.
Thu, 19 Sep 2013 14:57:36 -0700
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said that QB Matt Simms isn't a threat to steal QB Geno Smith's starting job. "Well, I think there are a lot of guys that like Simms, I don't think there's any doubt, but to say as our starting quarterback? I don't see that," Ryan said. "Again, I'm obviously saying that that couldn't happen, but we see Geno as our starting quarterback now, and that's how we see it. We like Matt -- or Phil, if you want." The Jets are happy with Smith's play, other than some miscues, and have acknowledged that he will go through his bumps and bruises as part of the learning experience.
Fantasy Tip: Smith will likely have a long leash, since the Jets see him as the future starter at QB in the long run. Starting him for fantasy purposes would be foolish, though.
Wed, 18 Sep 2013 13:25:54 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Mon, 16 Sep 2013 14:45:27 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith said he has not been given any indication that he will be the starting quarterback past the team's Week 3 game. He said he would like to get more of a commitment from the team but understands the situation. "In my own personal time here, I think I've been treated fairly well, and I think I've been given a great chance, a great opportunity. And I got an opportunity this week once again to prove myself," Smith said.
Sat, 14 Sep 2013 09:50:40 -0700
New York Jets general manager John Idzik said QB Geno Smith will be the team's starting quarterback Week 3 but is not ready to name Smith as the starter for the rest of the season.
Thu, 12 Sep 2013 14:16:33 -0700
New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez (shoulder) is "pleasantly surprised" by his "progress" and intends to rehab his shoulder with hopes of playing again this year. Sanchez feels he won the quarterback competition between himself and QB Geno Smith in the preseason before being injured. "I won the competition. There's no doubt," Sanchez said.
Fantasy Tip: Sanchez could return later this year, but he's likely to need surgery on his shoulder at some point in the offseason. Sanchez's injury gives the Jets an excuse to let Smith run with the job and learn by trial and error. Sanchez shouldn't be anywhere close to your fantasy radar.
Wed, 11 Sep 2013 15:11:12 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith (ankle) practiced in full Wednesday, Sept. 11, and is probable for Week 2.
Tue, 10 Sep 2013 14:16:50 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith (ankle) fully participated in practice Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Mon, 09 Sep 2013 15:13:40 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith (ankle) fully participated in practice Monday, Sept. 9.
Mon, 09 Sep 2013 11:05:16 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith will receive the start in Week 2 against the New England Patriots Thursday, Sept. 12, after passing for over 256 yards and a touchdown and interception in the Week 1 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. QB Mark Sanchez (shoulder) will miss another game and will seek a second opinion on his separated right shoulder. Sanchez is unlikely to play when he returns, though.
Fantasy Tip: Smith looked shaky at times in his first career start and win, and he'll continue to have growing pains as long as he's on the field. He remains a QB3 in the deepest of leagues.
Sun, 08 Sep 2013 23:43:10 -0700
New York Jets C Nick Mangold (arm) left the game Sunday, Sept. 8, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but later returned. Mangold was injured on a play in which the Buccaneers sacked QB Geno Smith. He remained face down on the turf for a few moments while trainers checked on him. Mangold eventually rolled over on his back as the trainers looked at his right arm. Mangold walked to the sideline on his own, but was taken to the locker room a few minutes later. He missed two offensive plays, but was back in -- wearing a black sleeve on his right arm -- on the Jets' next possession. TE Jeff Cumberland (head) also left in the first half with an apparent head injury, but returned at the start of the fourth quarter.
Sun, 08 Sep 2013 09:04:28 -0700
Doctors think that New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez (shoulder) is dealing with a partially torn labrum in his shoulder. He'll go for a second opinion with Dr. James Andrews this week.
Fantasy Tip: Bad news for Sanchez. He might not see the field for most of, if not all, of the season if this is true. Geno Smith's value as a QB3 with plenty of upside is rising. He'll have plenty of growing pains, though, although he can present a threat with his legs. It's not wise to rely on Smith at any point this year.
Fri, 06 Sep 2013 13:43:47 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith (ankle) practiced in full Friday, Sept. 6, and is probable for Week 1.
Thu, 05 Sep 2013 16:24:23 -0700
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan is confident that QB Geno Smith has a good grasp of the offense as they head into Week 1 to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "This is his offense now," Ryan said. Ryan also said that Smith is moving around well after rolling his ankle in the team's first preseason game. Ryan downplayed the idea that the team could use more shotgun packages to help Smith in his NFL debut.
Thu, 05 Sep 2013 14:54:39 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith (ankle) practiced in full Thursday, Sept. 5.
Thu, 05 Sep 2013 09:31:41 -0700
New York Jets owner Woody Johnson said the team has no plans to cut QB Mark Sanchez and eat the remainder of his contract. "Mark will be on the team; I don't think there's any question about that," said Johnson, who is paying Sanchez a guaranteed $8.25 million to be a backup. General manager John Idzik also ended speculation that the team would place Sanchez on the Injured Reserve. He'll have a chance to regain the starting job, but the team is moving away from him right now.
Fantasy Tip: Sanchez's chances of regaining the starting job probably won't be up to him, but rather how Geno Smith performs in the first few weeks of the season. Even if he does regain the job, Sanchez should not be owned in leagues.
Wed, 04 Sep 2013 16:05:44 -0700
The New York Jets have named QB Geno Smith their Week 1 starting quarterback, but they're not committing to him beyond the season opener. "We're having a competition between quarterbacks, and that competition isn't finished," owner Woody Johnson said. Smith is starting over the injured Mark Sanchez (shoulder), and he's expected to miss a few weeks. The team isn't considering placing Sanchez on the Injured Reserve or releasing him at this time. "We're very comfortable with Geno," head coach Rex Ryan said. "As an organization, we're confident Geno will help us get the job done."
Fantasy Tip: This situation is a mess, as it has been for a while. The team would prefer to keep Sanchez on the bench, even though running with Smith, a rookie, is a big risk. Consider it an even bigger risk to rely on Smith for fantasy purposes, for now.
Wed, 04 Sep 2013 14:38:51 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith (ankle) practiced in full Wednesday, Sept. 4.
Tue, 03 Sep 2013 11:56:47 -0700
The New York Jets aren't ruling out releasing QB Mark Sanchez (shoulder), even though they'd have to eat $8.25 million if they made that move. Sanchez hasn't thrown a football in nine days due to a shoulder injury. He won't play in Week 1, and his status is "very uncertain." If newly-signed QB Brady Quinn learns the offense quickly behind QB Geno Smith, Sanchez could become expendable. The team is ready to move on without Sanchez, but he counts $12.9 million against the salary cap this year, and he'll have a $4.8 million charge next season. The team isn't ruling out putting Sanchez on the short-term Injured Reserve, either. Head coach Rex Ryan didn't indicate that the Jets had any plans to release Sanchez, though.
Tue, 03 Sep 2013 10:52:58 -0700
New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez (shoulder) rode a stationary bike during practice Monday, Sept. 2, while dealing with a bruised joint in his right shoulder. Sanchez isn't expected to be ready for the season opener in Week 1. QB Geno Smith is the clear choice to start that game, even after the team signed QB Brady Quinn.
Fantasy Tip: Smith has intrigue as a quarterback that can make things happen with his legs on the ground, but he shouldn't be relied on as anything more than a QB3 with upside. The lack of reliable receiving options in New York will be a big problem.
Sat, 31 Aug 2013 21:49:45 -0700
New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez (shoulder) was still experiencing pain in his throwing shoulder Saturday, Aug. 31, according to multiple league sources. Officially, Sanchez is listed as a day to day with a bruised shoulder joint, but there is a possibility Sanchez might miss a few weeks. The team is prepared for the likelihood QB Geno Smith makes the start in Week 1.
Fri, 30 Aug 2013 16:42:12 -0700
New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg is in favor of QB Geno Smith being the team's starting quarterback even if QB Mark Sanchez is healthy.
Fri, 30 Aug 2013 13:36:10 -0700
New York Jets QB Geno Smith likely will start Week 1 because of the injury to QB Mark Sanchez (shoulder).
Fantasy Tip: Smith has been competing for the starting quarterback job and it appears he will get the start because of an injury. He should not be owned in any league even if he keeps his starting job.
