Jets | Both Jets QBs probable

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 11:17:57 -0800

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and QB Geno Smith (shoulder) practiced Wednesday, Nov. 11, and are probable for Week 10 Thursday, Nov. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) played well with 21.6 fantasy points last week, but he has one of the tougher matchups against the Buffalo Bills. He's not a FantasyScore option with a lot of upside.

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 11:53:19 -0800

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and QB Geno Smith (shoulder) practiced Friday, Nov. 6, and are probable for Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) will draw the start against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but there are options with more upside on FantasyScore.

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and QB Geno Smith (shoulder) practiced Thursday, Nov. 5.

Jets | Geno Smith appears OK

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 11:49:51 -0800

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (shoulder) seemed fine during individual and positional drills Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Fantasy Tip: The bad news for Smith ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is that Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) also took part in the portion of practice open to the media. Smith wouldn't be a good FantasyScore grab against the Jacksonville Jaguars if he plays.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith practicing

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 11:01:30 -0800

New York Jets QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and Geno Smith (shoulder) both took part in throwing drills in practice Wednesday, Nov. 4, with their helmets on. Fitzpatrick was wearing a protective glove on his left hand.

Fantasy Tip: It'll be a matter of pain tolerance for Fitzpatrick ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) likely for the remainder of the year, and he'll need surgery to fix torn ligaments in his thumb at some point. There's really no reason to risk it with a quarterback that could have trouble directing the ball if he plays, even against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick will have to deal with pain

Mon, 02 Nov 2015 13:46:44 -0800

Updating previous reports, New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick's (thumb) ability to play in Week 9 will largely come down to pain tolerance, according to head coach Todd Bowles. QB Geno Smith (shoulder) underwent tests Monday, Nov. 2, that revealed a "big bruise." Smith has no structural damage to his shoulder. Bowles is not very confident that Fitzpatrick will be able to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars right now. The Jets are strongly considering trading for a veteran quarterback before the trade deadline Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Plan on avoiding the Jets quarterback situation in Week 9 on FantasyScore no matter what happens here. Neither quarterback is likely to be 100% for the matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith day-to-day

Mon, 02 Nov 2015 13:30:51 -0800

New York Jets QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) and Geno Smith (shoulder) are listed as day-to-day, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick will need surgery on his thumb at some point, but he might be able to play through it until then. Selecting one of these two quarterbacks on FantasyScore in Week 9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars isn't advised, and you'll probably want to downgrade the Jets receivers if New York's QB is playing injured this weekend.

Jets | Geno Smith banged up in loss

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 17:07:18 -0800

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (abdomen, shoulder) suffered a left shoulder injury and abdominal issue in the Week 8 game against the Oakland Raiders after replacing the injured QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb).

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) might have been in line to start in Week 9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but now it is up in the air. Rookie Bryce Petty ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) might actually be forced into action in Week 9.

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick out with thumb injury

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 14:54:20 -0800

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) will miss the remainder of the game Sunday, Nov. 1, with a left thumb injury. Jets coach Todd Bowles indicated Fitzpatrick had a ligament issue with his thumb. QB Geno Smith is in the game at quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) will likely miss an extended period of time, but don't get too used to Smith ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) at the helm. The Oakland Raiders were beating the Jets in convincing fashion, and the Jets front office is already working the phones trying to find QB help. Stay tuned to see where this lands.

Jets | Geno Smith enters game vs. Oakland

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 13:54:20 -0800

New York Jets QB Geno Smith replaced Ryan Fitzpatrick (hand) late in the first quarter of Week 8's game against the Oakland Raiders, after Fitzpatrick sustained an injury to his left hand.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) is officially listed as questionable to return. Smith ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is seeing his first action of the 2015 season versus Oakland and will be the Jets' starter at quarterback for as long as Fitzpatrick is sidelined. Continue to check back for updates on his injury status.

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) has been medically cleared and practiced fully for the first time since suffering his broken jaw. Head coach Todd Bowles said Smith could be active against the Philadelphia Eagles this week.

Fantasy Tip: We already know Ryan Fitzpatrick is still the starter, so Smith can be avoided in daily contests and seasonal leagues.

Jets | Geno Smith has a ways to go

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 16:42:19 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) has yet to be cleared for practices and is expected to miss the next two games at least. Smith could be fully healthy by Week 6, but head coach Todd Bowles has made it sound like Smith still has a ways to go. "He has to get ready for practice," Bowles said. "He has to read defenses all over again. It's like starting training camp when you haven't read defenses and set the fronts and called out blitz protections and everything like that. It takes a minute. Once he gets back to that flow, I think it'll start to come back to him pretty good."

Jets | Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain starter

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 13:57:23 -0700

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is the starting quarterback no matter when QB Geno Smith (jaw) is healthy enough to return, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) played well in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts. He's relatively cheap for quarterbacks on FantasyScore and enables owners to invest in higher-priced studs if wanted. The matchup isn't that bad either against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jets | Geno Smith taking part in drills

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 06:30:10 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) has been taking part in 7-on-7 drills during practice this week, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Smith will travel with the team for their Week 2 game against the Indianapolis Colts but will not play.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) is making progress but is expected to miss the next few games while his jaw heals. Ryan Fitzpatrick ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) had some success in Week 1 but is not a great fantasy option on FantasyScore.

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) will miss at least one more game and is not a fantasy option at this time. Ryan Fitzpatrick ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) will start against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2 but is not a great starting option on FantasyScore.

Jets | No changes for Geno Smith

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 10:38:39 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) has no changes to his timetable, according to head coach Todd Bowles. "It's going to take a while," Bowles said.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) shouldn't be on anyone's fantasy radar for the time being. There's a chance he could regain the starting role at some point when he's healthy, but who knows when that'll be. Fitzpatrick ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) will continue to start in the meantime, but he doesn't have much daily upside at all.

Jets | Geno Smith listed as limited

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 14:41:20 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) is working his way back from his jaw injury but likely will not be ready for a few more weeks. Ryan Fitzpatrick ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) should be the starting quarterback against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2 but is not a great fantasy option.

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 11:20:37 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith's (jaw) status is unchanged, and he will be out for Week 2.

Jets | Geno Smith sits

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 14:41:58 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Smith could miss the first four games of the season, so he still has some time to recover. Once he does return, he's not guaranteed back the starting quarterback position either if Ryan Fitzpatrick is playing well. Fitzpatrick ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is a cheaper option on FantasyScoret this week, but he doesn't have the best matchup against the Cleveland Browns. You can do better.

Jets | NY not adding quarterback

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 11:09:03 -0700

New York Jets QBs Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Bryce Petty will remain New York's quarterbacks for the time being, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles said the Jets will take a week-to-week approach with their quarterback situation.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzpatrick will start until Smith is healthy enough to return. He may still start even when Smith returns if he's been playing well enough. Both are merely bye-week replacements and backups.

Jets | Geno Smith receives some work

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 12:40:17 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) took some snaps from under center during practice Monday, Aug. 31, but it was not at full speed.

Fantasy Tip: Smith is expected to miss a few weeks of the regular season and may not regain his starting job if QB Ryan Fitzpatrick plays well. Owners probably should avoid Smith in drafts.

Jets | Geno Smith present at practice

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 10:58:00 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) attended practice Monday, Aug. 24, but did not participate in drills. He was wearing a no-contact jersey during practice.

Fantasy Tip: Smith is expected to miss several weeks because of his jaw injury, so owners should not select him in drafts. Ryan Fitzpatrick will start while he is out, but he is not a great fantasy option either.

Jets | Geno Smith nearly replaced by Cousins

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 09:39:54 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith was nearly replaced by Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins, whom the team would have traded for if they hired Dan Quinn as head coach. Quinn wanted to bring Kyle Shanahan aboard as offensive coordinator, and the tandem sought to acquire Cousins to be the starting quarterback for the Jets.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan Fitzpatrick has a chance to keep the starting job once Smith returns from his broken jaw. Both signal callers are QB2's that should be left on waivers except in deeper leagues.

Jets | Geno Smith won't be on sideline

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 15:43:09 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) will not be on the sideline Friday, Aug. 21, versus the Atlanta Falcons. Head coach Todd Bowles said inactive injured players will not be permitted on the sideline while the game is ongoing.

Fantasy Tip: It's not that Smith is being shunned or put in the doghouse. Bowles just doesn't want anyone injured being at risk on the sideline. It's a precautionary policy he has. Smith is expected to miss at least the first four games of the season. Stay away from him in fantasy drafts.

Jets | Geno Smith could miss first four games

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 12:51:42 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith's (jaw) broken jaw could force him to miss the first four games of the season, according to general manager Mike Maccagnan. The Jets have a Week 5 bye, so he could return for Week 6. Maccagnan also said the Jets could add another quarterback in light of Smith's injury.

Fantasy Tip: Smith's recovery period was expected to be six to 10 weeks, so a return in Week 6 would seem to be a good thing. Of course, Ryan Fitzpatrick could still start upon Smith's return if he's playing well enough. Still, none of New York's quarterbacks are worth starting on fantasy teams.

Jets | Team doesn't want Geno Smith working out

Sun, 16 Aug 2015 13:35:08 -0700

New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles said he was not happy that QB Geno Smith (jaw) began working out on his own two days after undergoing surgery to fix a broken jaw. He said the matter has been dealt with internally and Smith will not face disciplinary action.

Fantasy Tip: Smith is expected to be sidelined six to 10 weeks, although there is no guarantee that he will regain his starting role if Ryan Fitzpatrick is playing well. The Jets' quarterback situation is one for fantasy owners to avoid regardless of who is lined up behind center.

Jets | Geno Smith has surgery

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 15:52:10 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) underwent surgery on his broken jaw Thursday, Aug. 13. Plates and screws were inserted, but his jaw did not need to be wired shut.

Fantasy Tip: Smith is expected to return in six to 10 weeks, but he may not start upon his return if Ryan Fitzpatrick is playing well. No matter what, New York's quarterback situation is one to stay away from.

Jets | Geno Smith elects for surgery

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 09:37:36 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) has elected for surgery to repair his broken jaw after a second opinion. Smith is expected to miss six to 10 weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Smith is slated to miss at least the first two games, but he was a shaky QB2 to begin with. Look for him as a one-week play in great matchups if he regains the starting job. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a low-end QB2 in his stead.

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 10:46:17 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) may not regain his starting job when he returns if the team is playing well without him, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Smith is expected to miss at least the first few weeks of the season because of his broken jaw, but he could stay on the sidelines if the team is winning games. Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to take over the starting job, but he should only be considered as No. 2 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Jets | Geno Smith punched over $600

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 05:36:00 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) was punched in the face by former Jets LB IK Enemkpali because of a dispute over money. Enemkpali accepted a $600 plane ticket from Enemkpali to appear at his football camp in Pflugerville, Texas, on July 11, according to sources. Smith didn't show up to the camp, which took place days after someone close to Smith was killed in a motorcycle accident in Miami. After Smith did not attend, Enemkpali demanded that Smith refund him the $600 he allegedly used to purchase the plane ticket. Smith told Enemkpali he would reimburse him the money, but he had not as of Tuesday, Aug. 11. Enkempali confronted Smith about the money, and the confrontation ended in a punch and a broken jaw. A source familiar with the situation told ESPN's Josina Anderson that at the start of camp, Smith approached Enemkpali, sensing tension between the two. The source said Smith confronted Enemkpali, tried to diffuse the situation and offered to pay Enemkpali the $600.

Fantasy Tip: Smith probably shouldn't be drafted in single-year leagues because of his lengthy absence. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a low-end QB2 that you can use in two-quarterback leagues.

Jets | Geno Smith out 6-10 weeks

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 10:31:57 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith (jaw) will miss six to 10 weeks after suffering a broken jaw Tuesday, Aug. 11, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Smith was "sucker punched" by DE IK Enemkpali. Smith will have surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Smith wasn't a viable fantasy quarterback heading into the season. He could miss four games (five total weeks with the team's Week 5 bye) if he recovers on the short end of that timetable. Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to be the team's starter in Smith's absence. He could present an upgrade for the aerial weapons, most notably Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, but probably not enough of one to upgrade them for your cheat sheets. Fitzpatrick can be avoided in all formats.

New York Jets QB Geno Smith threw his first two interceptions of training camp during practice Monday, Aug. 10, but did throw three touchdowns during the red zone part of practice.

Fantasy Tip: Smith appears to have a hold on the starting job and is coming off a decent end to the 2015 season. Smith should only be seen as a No. 2 quarterback in deeper leagues and there is a chance he could lose his job if he struggles early.

Jets | Geno Smith solid again

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 18:21:28 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith completed 17 of his 24 pass attempts in practice Friday, Aug. 7, and he has now gone eight practices without throwing an interception. Head coach Todd Bowles said Smith's command of the offense is "night and day from the spring and from OTAs."

Fantasy Tip: Smith is still on track to open the season as the starting quarterback, but donít count on him being more than a low-end QB2 in 2015.

Jets | Teammate says Geno Smith is starter

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 09:22:03 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith is absolutely the starting quarterback for the Jets, according to WR Brandon Marshall.

Fantasy Tip: Smith has some solid performances last season but could be on a short leash if he starts of slowly this season. Owners should consider Smith as nothing more than a No. 2 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Jets | Geno Smith impressing teammate

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 15:43:22 -0700

New York Jets QB Geno Smith has caught the eye of teammate WR Eric Decker this offseason. "Since the offseason he's done a good job of his accountability, his discipline, how he watches tape, how he comes to practice," Decker said. "He's definitely taking that leadership role. [We're] just kind of watching him grow every day. He's definitely done a terrific job."

Fantasy Tip: Smith can have the greatest training camp and preseason of all time, but when it comes to games that count, he's been unreliable in his first two years in the NFL. He has the weapons to be successful, including Decker and new WR Brandon Marshall. Still, Smith hasn't thrown more than 13 touchdowns and hasn't thrown fewer than 13 interceptions in a season. He's not worth drafting as your starting fantasy quarterback.

Jets | Geno Smith still interception-free

New York Jets QB Geno Smith turned the ball over for the first time in more than four practices Tuesday, Aug. 4. It was a fumble, however, so Smith is still without an interception over the same time frame.

Fantasy Tip: Smith may have a nice no-interception streak going, but he hasn't played in any real games yet. Smith has been one of the most inconsistent quarterbacks in his short career so far. He can't be trusted as a starting fantasy quarterback.

New York Jets QB Geno Smith and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick have not thrown interceptions thus far in training camp, but Smith is still the leading candidate to open the year as the starter.

Fantasy Tip: Smith may have one or two big games, but even as the starter, he is a low-end QB2.

New York Jets QB Geno Smith worked with the first-team offense and completed 12 of his 20 pass attempts with no interceptions Thursday, July 30.

Fantasy Tip: Smith will have the weapons to have his best season, but his week-to-week consistency will likely remain a major issue. He is a low-end QB2 entering 2015.
