Cardinals | Aledmys Diaz sitting out

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 08:53:39 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz is not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross Saturday, April 30. SS Ruben Tejada will start at shortstop and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Tejada has only one hit in his last eight at-bats and is batting only .167 this season. Owners should be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Cardinals | Aledmys Diaz remains red hot

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 23:54:30 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz went 2-for-4 with a home run, walk, three runs scored and two RBIs Wednesday, April 27, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Diaz has hit safely in seven straight games, and he is hitting .577 (15-for-26) with seven runs scored and five RBIs during the impressive span. He is a must-start in all NL-only fantasy leagues and some mixed formats, and he is a tremendous value in DFS play.

Cardinals | Jhonny Peralta making progress

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:31:16 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Jhonny Peralta (thumb) started light defensive drills this week in the next step to regain strength in his hand after he had surgery to fix a torn ligament in his left thumb March 10. Peralta will be re-evaluated by the team's medical staff in two weeks. He was initially believed to need 10 to 12 weeks to return. The return of Peralta won't necessarily mean SS Aledmys Diaz will be removed from the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta should remain stashed in all fantasy formats. Diaz, who is hitting a cool .466 (27-for-58 with three home runs and 11 RBI) could make things very interesting when Peralta returns. He could make playing time even more scarce for Jedd Gyorko or Kolten Wong at second base if St. Louis chooses to use him at the keystone. Stay tuned, but as long as Diaz continues to hit, he has value in all leagues at a shallow position.

Cardinals | Aledmys Diaz in rare company

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 09:50:52 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz is the first MLB player to debut in the modern era to have a batting average of .500 through 50 or more career at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: Diaz has been great at the plate with a .481-3-11 line in 54 at-bats. He has usurped Jedd Gyorko for playing time at short, but his glove has been an issue at times. Diaz is a must-own in mixed leagues right now. However, it would make sense to see if you can flip him for a proven, sustainable commodity.

Cardinals | Aledmys Diaz has five hits

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 04:28:17 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz collected five hits Saturday, April 23, in a 11-2 win over the San Diego Padres.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals have a problem, but it's a good one, Diaz's emergence looks like it is for real, meaning the team has depth at a position where it was otherwise thin. For now, ride Diaz's hot hand as it doesn't look like the team is sending him back to the minors anytime soon. Ruben Tejada owners -- and those hanging onto Jhonny Peralta -- could find themselves holding a losing hand.

Cardinals | Matt Adams, Ruben Tejada in lineup

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 15:58:44 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams and SS Ruben Tejada are in the starting lineup facing San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner Friday, April 22. Adams is hitting cleanup and Tejada is hitting eighth. OF Jeremy Hazelbaker and SS Aledmys Diaz are the odd-men out.

Fantasy Tip: After hot starts, Hazelbaker and Diaz could see spotty playing time moving forward unless an injury opens up more time. Tejada is more of a defensive option and should only be owned in deep NL-only leagues. Adams has five hits (one homer and two doubles) in his last six games and figures to platoon at first with Matt Holliday and Brandon Moss. Against Cashner this evening, Adams is certainly worth investing in in daily leagues.

Cardinals | Aledmys Diaz back at shortstop

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 09:08:42 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz is back at shortstop and is hitting eighth against Chicago Cubs SP Kyle Hendricks Wednesday, April 20.

Fantasy Tip: Diaz and Ruben Tejada figure to split time at the 6. Diaz has really impressed to begin the year, hitting .389 (14-for-36) with two home runs and eight RBI, and he has the offensive upside to make him more attractive in deep mixed and NL-only leagues over Tejada.

Cardinals | Three Cards regulars sitting

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 12:11:41 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss, OF Stephen Piscotty and SS Aledmys Diaz are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 19. 1B Matt Adams is at first base and hitting cleanup, OF Jeremy Hazelbaker draws another start in right field and is in the two-hole, and SS Ruben Tejada is starting at shortstop and batting eighth against Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel.

Fantasy Tip: Adams draws and can become an under-the-radar sleeper against a right-hander Tuesday in daily contests. He had all five of his long balls against righties last year. Hazelbaker has cooled off a bit but still has value in all fantasy formats as long as he's playing. Tejada is a low-end shortstop option who will steal playing time away from Diaz after coming off the DL yesterday.

Cardinals | Aledmys Diaz still at SS

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 11:42:14 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz is starting at shortstop again against Chicago Cubs SP John Lackey Monday, April 18, after SS Ruben Tejada (quadriceps) was activated from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Diaz has gotten off to such a good start this year that Mike Matheny may be forced to stick with him at shortstop despite the return of Tejada. As long as Diaz is playing regularly and continues to hit, he'll be worth a lineup spot in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Jedd Gyorko probably suffers the most with Tejada back.

Cardinals | St. Louis resting five players

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 10:56:18 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jeremy Hazelbaker, OF Matt Holliday, C Yadier Molina, 2B Kolten Wong and SS Aledmys Diaz are not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP Jon Moscot Sunday, April 17. 1B Brandon Moss is starting in left field and is batting second. 1B Matt Adams is starting at first base and is batting fifth. 2B Jedd Gyorko is starting at second base and is batting sixth. SS Greg Garcia is starting at shortstop and is batting seventh, while C Eric Fryer starting at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Fryer and Garcia have played well early this season but probably should not be options in most leagues. Moss, Adams and Gyorko could be used in daily fantasy leagues.
