Cardinals | St. Louis sitting four starters

Sun, 29 May 2016 09:18:18 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz, OF Stephen Piscotty, C Yadier Molina and 2B Kolten Wong are not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg Sunday, May 29. SS Greg Garcia will start in shortstop and is batting second. 1B Brandon Moss will start in left field and is batting sixth. 2B Jedd Gyorko will start in second base and is batting seventh, while C Eric Fryer will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia has played very well over the last seven days and should be sleeper candidate in daily fantasy leagues. Moss, Gyorko and Fryer has struggled recently and can be avoided in most leagues.

Cardinals | Aledmys Diaz moving up in lineup?

Thu, 19 May 2016 20:30:04 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz hit second for the first time this season and went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in a 13-7 win over the Colorado Rockies Thursday, May 19, and manager Mike Matheny said the No. 2 spot in the order might be a "good fit" for Diaz.

Fantasy Tip: Diaz is already a must-own player in mixed leagues, and a permanent move up in the order would further boost his stock.

Cardinals | Cards shake up lineup Thursday

Thu, 19 May 2016 12:03:17 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz is hitting in the two-hole against Colorado Rockies SP Jon Gray Thursday, May 19. OF Stephen Piscotty moves to cleanup as a result, and OF Randal Grichuk is pushed down to seventh in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Diaz has been one of the better hitters on the team all season, slashing .376/.403/.648 with six home runs and 20 RBI. The move up the lineup will certainly boost his fantasy value, especially in daily setups. Piscotty has been solid, too (.318-5-23) and remains a fine option in all formats. Grichuk is off to a slow start (.218-5-19), but he's hitting .306 (11-for-36) with a homer and six RBI since May 6. This move could let him relax more and continue turning things around. He's a contrarian play in DFS against Gray.

Cardinals | Aledmys Diaz batting fifth on Sunday

Sun, 15 May 2016 14:41:22 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz is hitting fifth Sunday, May 15, against the Los Angeles Dodgers and SP Alex Wood.

Fantasy Tip: Diaz is traditionally a No. 8 or 9 hitter, but he has torn up the National League in terms of his bat. Diaz has cooled off in the past week, if you call .308/.321/.577 coming back to earth. Diaz has done a decent job at the plate and solidified the middle infield with a .365-5-14 performance in the last month, and he belongs in all fantasy formats.

Cardinals | Jhonny Peralta could be moved around

Thu, 05 May 2016 15:08:40 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Jhonny Peralta (thumb) could play some first or third base in addition to shortstop when he returns from the disabled list in order to keep SS Aledmys Diaz's bat in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta should remain stashed in all fantasy formats. It's unknown if he'll play any other position enough to gain eligibility at a position other than shortstop, but it's probably unlikely. The biggest takeaway is that Diaz's scorching start out of nowhere has earned him a spot on the roster for the rest of the year, most likely.

Cardinals | Three Cards out Thursday

Thu, 05 May 2016 08:21:31 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz, OF Randal Grichuk and OF Matt Holliday are out of the lineup Thursday, May 5. OF Brandon Moss is hitting third, OF Jeremy Hazelbaker is hitting sixth and SS Ruben Tejada hits eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Moss is an interesting choice to hit third considering he is hitting .233 with 25 K's in 73 at-bats. He does have six homers and 16 RBI, so he's worth some low-end consideration against Jerad Eickhoff. Hazelbaker has cooled considerably since a storybook first two weeks. He's hitting .212 with two homers the last 15 games. He's a bleak low-end flyer. Tejada doesn't pack enough offensive punch to consider in DFS today.

Cardinals | Aledmys Diaz leading off

Wed, 04 May 2016 14:41:33 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz is batting first in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan Wednesday, May 4.

Fantasy Tip: Diaz likely will not see much time in the leadoff spot but it will help his value in daily fantasy leagues. He is hitting .182 over the last seven days but does have two home runs and three RBI during that span. Diaz has been a terrific fantasy option for owners during the first month of the season and could continue to be used.

Cardinals | Aledmys Diaz sitting out

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 08:53:39 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz is not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross Saturday, April 30. SS Ruben Tejada will start at shortstop and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Tejada has only one hit in his last eight at-bats and is batting only .167 this season. Owners should be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Cardinals | Aledmys Diaz remains red hot

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 23:54:30 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz went 2-for-4 with a home run, walk, three runs scored and two RBIs Wednesday, April 27, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Diaz has hit safely in seven straight games, and he is hitting .577 (15-for-26) with seven runs scored and five RBIs during the impressive span. He is a must-start in all NL-only fantasy leagues and some mixed formats, and he is a tremendous value in DFS play.

Cardinals | Jhonny Peralta making progress

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:31:16 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Jhonny Peralta (thumb) started light defensive drills this week in the next step to regain strength in his hand after he had surgery to fix a torn ligament in his left thumb March 10. Peralta will be re-evaluated by the team's medical staff in two weeks. He was initially believed to need 10 to 12 weeks to return. The return of Peralta won't necessarily mean SS Aledmys Diaz will be removed from the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta should remain stashed in all fantasy formats. Diaz, who is hitting a cool .466 (27-for-58 with three home runs and 11 RBI) could make things very interesting when Peralta returns. He could make playing time even more scarce for Jedd Gyorko or Kolten Wong at second base if St. Louis chooses to use him at the keystone. Stay tuned, but as long as Diaz continues to hit, he has value in all leagues at a shallow position.
