Chargers | Keenan Allen having best camp?

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 13:34:55 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen has had the best training camp of his short career so far, according to QB Philip Rivers.

Fantasy Tip: If Allen can keep up the performance he's had this offseason and continues to build his rapport with Rivers, he could be in for a career year. He may even see a bit of an increased workload with Antonio Gates out the first four weeks of the season. He's easily in the WR2 conversation right now.

Chargers | Keenan Allen talks Philip Rivers

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 13:54:02 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen thinks he has developed a better chemistry with QB Philip Rivers this offseason. "You can look at the coverage, and you kind of know what Phil likes to throw in the play call we have and the coverage they're giving us," Allen said. "Just knowing that helps a lot."

Fantasy Tip: If Allen's words come to fruition, it could be a career year for Allen. He should be Rivers' top target at least until Antonio Gates returns from his four-game suspension, and perhaps even after that. It sounds like Allen is in for a solid year if he can stay healthy. Draft him as a WR2.

Chargers | Keenan Allen taking day off

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 10:17:05 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen is not taking part in any drills at practice Tuesday, Aug. 11, and it's likely a maintenance day for him after a strong practice Monday, Aug. 10.

Fantasy Tip: After a disappointing sophomore season, Allen will come at a nice value in 2015, and he could be an excellent sleeper option in the Chargers offense with Eddie Royal no longer around. Without Antonio Gates for the first four weeks, too, Allen could really come out of the gates strong.

Chargers | Keenan Allen playing well, feeling well

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 20:32:51 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen lined up all over the field in training camp Wednesday, Aug. 5, catching a fade route over CB Jason Verrett in the end zone and adding two long catches, both with considerable yards after the catch. "I didn't feel tired at all today or yesterday or when we did the conditioning test," Allen said last week. "Just being able to run and not be fatigued, I don't have to think about anything but run and catch the ball."

Fantasy Tip: Allen had a disappointing sophomore campaign, but he lost weight this offseason and could be primed for a rebound. Consider him a WR3 with upside for 2015.

Chargers | Keenan Allen overlooked in red zone

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 18:53:06 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen's red zone targets fell from 19 in 2013 to 12 last year, and he caught just 18 passes that went at least 10 yards through the air a year ago compared to 29 in 2013.

Fantasy Tip: Allen was one of the bigger fantasy disappointments last year, but he showed too much promise as a rookie to write off. The suspension of Antonio Gates could result in a much faster start for Allen in 2015, and you should feel comfortable drafting him as a high-end WR3.

Chargers | Keenan Allen losing weight

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 13:15:30 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen said he's been losing weight in order to play faster this season.

Fantasy Tip: Allen only managed 783 yards and 4 touchdowns in his second year. He didn't see a lot separation from defenders, which is the reason why he's trying to become faster. Encouragingly, Allen was targeted 121 times and caught 77 passes in 2014, both up from his rookie campaign. If he can get closer to his rookie numbers, he could end up as a WR2.

Chargers | Keenan Allen embracing leadership

Wed, 27 May 2015 17:17:54 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen is the second longest tenured wide receiver on the team, other than WR Malcom Floyd. "Hopefully I can take on a leader role along with Malcom. Hopefully I can help the new guys build a connection with Philip (Rivers) and understand the playbook. I'm helping them with the new terminology, and picking up on the words and the lingo. Even though they may have been in similar systems, I'm helping them with the splits and where Phil wants it to be. I've grown a lot since I first came here. I don't press as much as I used to. I am under control. It is only two years, but I've definitely grown a lot." Allen expects to work out of the slot a lot more in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Allen is holding himself to the high standards he set in his rookie season, and he hopes to put last season's slightly disappointing campaign behind him. Allen will be a bit of a sleeper entering 2015 drafts, and he has the skills and the role to be a draft-day steal.

Chargers | Keenan Allen to see more slot time

Sun, 05 Apr 2015 23:39:46 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen will likely see more time in the slot in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Allen had six more receptions last season, but his 783 yards and four touchdowns fell way short his rookie breakout season totals. Allen's usage in the slot will allow him to be used on more intermediate routes to rack up more yards before contact. Allen is a low-end WR2 with upside.

Chargers | Jacoby Jones to be kick returner

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 14:48:34 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Jacoby Jones will primarily serve as the team's kick returner in 2015, but he can also serve a complementary role in the receiving game. The Chargers averaged just 22.2 yards per kick return in 2014 (ranked 22nd in the league) and 8.8 yards per punt return (No. 16 in the league). Jones averaged 10.1 yards per punt return and 27.4 yards per kick return for the Baltimore Ravens in 2014. Jones' signing will allow WRs Keenan Allen and Eddie Royal to focus on receiving duties. The signing could also mean that SD could move on from Royal, who will be an unrestricted free agent next week.

Fantasy Tip: Jones had just nine catches for 131 yards and no touchdowns in Baltimore last year, so he shouldn't be on the radar of any fantasy football owners in 2015. However, his presence in SD could make their defense/special teams unit a bit more attractive.

Chargers | Keenan Allen will not play

Sun, 28 Dec 2014 09:10:05 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (collarbone) has been declared inactive for the team's Week 17 game.

Fantasy Tip: Eddie Royal probably will receive more playing time with Allen out of the lineup. Royal could be a flex option for some owners, but owners on FantasyScore should be able to find better options to use.
