St. Louis Cardinals RHP Alex Reyes (elbow) is slated to make his third rehab start with Class AA Springfield on Saturday, May 19, and is expected to make at least one more minor-league start after tht before potentially joining the parent club on May 29.

Updating an earlier report, St. Louis Cardinals RHP Alex Reyes (elbow) allowed four hits and a walk while fanning six in 3 1/3 innings in his first rehab start Wednesday, May 9. His fastball touched 99 mph. He'll make at least three more rehab starts before being considered for activation.

St. Louis Cardinals RHP Alex Reyes (elbow) threw three innings in an extended spring training game Friday, May 4, and reached 98 mph on the radar gun with his fastball. He is expected to begin an official rehab assignment with Class A Palm Beach next week and will be limited to 50-70 pitches in his first start. Reyes is eligible to return from the disabled list as soon as May 28, and could receive up to four rehab starts before he is activated.

St. Louis Cardinals RHP Alex Reyes (elbow) recently started throwing off a mound and has already resumed facing hitters in live batting practice sessions. The club is hoping he can return to action at the beginning of May, although it remains uncertain what role he will fill. The Cardinals view him as a rotation option in the long term but president of baseball operations John Mozeliak believes Reyes would be better suited for a relief role when he comes back so that organization can manage his workload.
