Mon, 21 Aug 2006 01:13:22 -0700 Adam Teicher, writing for the Sporting News, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Dee Brown will likely earn a roster spot even after the trade for RB Michael Bennett. Brown plays well on special teams and was effective in short-yardage situations.
Mon, 14 Aug 2006 16:38:20 -0700 Elisabeth Merrill, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Dee Brown is confident in his role despite the addition of RB Michael Bennett. "I wasn't discouraged," Brown said. "This is a business, no matter how you look at it. They bring in Michael Bennett, they bring back Barry Sanders, it doesn't matter who they bring back. You still have to perform and you still have a job to do."
Fri, 14 Jul 2006 05:44:20 -0700 Elizabeth Merrill, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Dee Brown is ready to be the team's primary backup to starting RB Larry Johnson. "I will be Larry Johnson's backup," Brown says straight-faced, and then repeats himself. "I'm ready, and you can capitalize that in bold print." This year appears to be Brown's best NFL opportunity and he knows it. RB Priest Holmes' neurological issues are still lingering, the Chiefs have promised to run the ball more this fall, and even Johnson can't carry the ball 500 times. Brown is a 5-foot-10, 210-pound analytical runner with good hands who can make defenders miss in small spaces. Much like Holmes, Brown is a good change-of-pace back for the Chiefs. Brown should be busy this season. Head coach Herman Edwards wants to run the ball about 35 times a game and knows that Johnson, who ran for nine straight 100-yard games, will need some breathers. Being the No. 2 guy in Kansas City could be a productive gig for Brown.
