Raiders | Amari Cooper to be more involved?

Sat, 07 Oct 2017 18:33:16 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB EJ Manuel said he is going to make an effort to make WR Amari Cooper more involved in the offense early against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Cooper is off to a dreadful start, and having Manuel under center instead of Derek Carr could prolong his slump. Cooper should be fine in the long run, but he is a risky WR3 in Week 5.

Raiders | EJ Manuel expected to start

Fri, 06 Oct 2017 15:46:59 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB EJ Manuel is expected to make the start in Week 5 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: While Derek Carr was able to practice for a second straight day, the chances of him playing are considered small. Manuel took the first quarterback reps in practice, followed by Carr and Connor Shaw. Manuel isn't a terribly attractive one-week fantasy option, but at least he gets Michael Crabtree back from injury to help a little bit.

Raiders | EJ Manuel to start Week 5

Mon, 02 Oct 2017 15:43:42 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB EJ Manuel will be the starting quarterback against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel threw for 107 yards and one interception after he replaced Derek Carr in Week 4. Owners should be able to find other quarterbacks to use in their lineups and can avoid Manuel this week.

Raiders | EJ Manuel likely landing in Oakland

Thu, 16 Mar 2017 15:46:08 -0700

Free-agent QB EJ Manuel (Bills) is "likely" signing with the Oakland Raiders, according to league sources.

Fantasy Tip: If he does end up signing with the Raiders, the former first-round draft pick will continue to hold no fantasy value, as he would strictly be competing with Connor Cook for the backup quarterback job behind Derek Carr.

Bills | EJ Manuel does nothing in start

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 21:40:38 -0800

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel made the start in Week 17 against the New York Jets with QB Tyrod Taylor (groin) inactive. Manuel completed just nine of his 20 passes for 86 yards and he was sacked twice before QB Cardale Jones took over and finished out.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel was once a first-round pick and starter, but he has been a disaster and is nothing more than a backup in this league. As such, he has no fantasy appeal heading into 2017.

Bills | EJ Manuel benched

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 12:41:18 -0800

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel was benched during the Sunday, Jan. 1, game against the New York Jets. Manuel was replaced by QB Cardale Jones.

Fantasy Tip: This could be a mess in the offseason, but right now the player with upside appears to be Jones. Tyrod Taylor is likely headed elsewhere if the Bills can get rid of him, and the fact Manuel couldn't get anything going against the lowly Jets is a red flag. Keep an eye on this situation.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor will not play Week 17

Tue, 27 Dec 2016 09:25:48 -0800

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor will reportedly be benched for Week 17 against the New York Jets. Buffalo reportedly does not want to take the chance of owing Taylor $30.75 million should he get hurt in the regular-season finale. Impending free-agent EJ Manuel will start in his place.

Fantasy Tip: The Bills' indifference in regards to Taylor has been known for some time, although the decision to give Manuel a start seems ridiculous considering he has shown next to nothing since he was a first-round draft pick in 2013. The decision also seems foolish because this weekend would be a perfect opportunity to give rookie Cardale Jones some live action as well. With Manuel under center, virtually every Buffalo player - perhaps outside of LeSean McCoy if he goes - is not worthy of a start in fantasy.

Bills | EJ Manuel expected to be backup

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 23:54:08 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel is expected to hang onto the primary backup job behind QB Tyrod Taylor, as rookie QB Cardale Jones hasn't made enough progress to pose an immediate threat.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel is a former first-round pick, but it appears he is destined to be a career backup unless something changes dramatically. For fantasy purposes, he is only worth a look for depth in deeper fantasy formats which require two starting signal callers.

Bills | EJ Manuel has difficulty with deep ball

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 23:24:32 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel continued to have problems hitting the deep targets in stride during practice Tuesday, June 14.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel is trying to hold off rookie Cardale Jones for the primary backup job behind starter Tyrod Taylor. As such, he has very little in the way of fantasy appeal unless Taylor goes down to injury.

Bills | EJ Manuel clear No. 2 quarterback

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 14:04:09 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel has nothing to prove in the coaching staff and is the clear No. 2 quarterback on the team's roster, according to head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan said QB Cardale Jones will be the No. 3 quarterback.

Bills | Cardale Jones struggling so far

Thu, 09 Jun 2016 10:03:35 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Cardale Jones wasn't sharp during rookie camp, but the Bills coaches understand Jones is a project with great size and a rocket for an arm. It could be difficult for Jones to push QB EJ Manuel for the backup quarterback job in training camp as he tries to become familiar with the offense.

Fantasy Tip: Jones was drafted as a project with plenty of athleticism, so the Bills know what they are working with. It'll be an uphill climb for Jones to learn the offense quickly this summer, so he really only has appeal in keeper and dynasty leagues in 2016.

Bills | EJ Manuel's option not picked up

Mon, 02 May 2016 15:40:58 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel's fifth-year option is not being picked up by the team.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Manuel is behind Tyrod Taylor on the QB depth chart and isn't expected to play in 2016 unless an injury occurs. Buffalo also drafted Cardale Jones, so Manuel's time with the Bills is coming to an end shortly. He has zero fantasy value for now.

Sun, 01 May 2016 14:40:48 -0700

Bills | No extension for Tyrod Taylor

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 11:18:26 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor will not receive a contract extension in light of the Bills drafting QB Cardale Jones. QB EJ Manuel's option is unlikely to be picked up, too.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor will start as long as he's healthy after a career year last season, but the future of the position remains a mystery. As for 2016, Taylor remains a fringe QB1.

Bills | EJ Manuel decision up in air

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 14:46:31 -0700

The Buffalo Bills haven't decided whether to pick up the option for QB EJ Manuel, according to general manager Doug Whaley. The deadline for Manuel's fifth-year option is in May, and it would likely be prohibitive for the Bills to keep him.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor's status unknown

Tue, 24 Nov 2015 09:00:07 -0800

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor's (chest) availability for Week 12 against the Kansas City Chiefs is unknown, but head coach Rex Ryan hopes his quarterback will be available. Ryan said he has "no idea" if Taylor will be ready. QB EJ Manuel briefly warmed up on the sidelines in the Week 11 loss to the New England Patriots Monday, Nov. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) looked to be in a considerable amount of pain during the Monday night game, but he never missed a snap. You'll need to watch his practice status this week. The Chiefs defense has stiffened up in recent weeks, so Taylor won't necessarily be an attractive sleeper pick at QB, especially if he's not 100%.

Bills | EJ Manuel to remain backup in Buffalo

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 17:55:55 -0800

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan said QB EJ Manuel is still the team's second-string quarterback, even though he was inactive for Week 10's game against the New York Jets. According to Ryan, QB Josh Johnson served as the backup to QB Tyrod Taylor because the Bills had a short week to prepare for the game and Johnson had a better grasp of the game plan as a result of being able to spend more time with offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) was not needed in the Jets game, so it turned out to be a moot point. Manuel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) should remain the Bills' No. 2 quarterback for the remainder of the season and would not be a great FantasyScore option if he receives any starts down the line.

Bills | EJ Manuel inactive Thursday

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 16:14:54 -0800

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel was a healthy inactive in Week 10 against the New York Jets Thursday, Nov. 12. QB Josh Johnson will serve as the backup to QB Tyrod Taylor. Johnson is familiar with offensive coordinator Greg Roman's playbook after having played for him in the 2012 and 2014 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. It's unknown if Manuel will permanently move to the third-string quarterback.

Bills | Unlikely to sign Ryan Mallett

Wed, 28 Oct 2015 09:32:16 -0700

Free-agent QB Ryan Mallett (Texans) could have a suitor in the Buffalo Bills, but it's unlikely that they'd sign him. QB Tyrod Taylor (knee) is expected to be back after the bye week, and Buffalo isn't believed to be looking to replace QB EJ Manuel. Also, QB Josh Johnson is another option for the Bills, and he has knowledge of offensive coordinator Greg Roman's system.

Bills | EJ Manuel has coach's confidence

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 22:15:34 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel has the confidence of head coach Rex Ryan as his No. 2 quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) was a bit inconsistent in the team's loss against Jacksonville, subbing for the injured Tyrod Taylor. If he should start again he shouldn't be trusted in FantasyScore.

Bills | EJ Manuel has up and down game

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 11:31:39 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel went 24-for-42 for 298 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Week 7 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also lost a fumble in the game and two of his turnovers resulted in touchdowns for the Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel was filling in for Tyrod Taylor who was not able to play because of a knee injury, but Manuel will be going back to the bench since Taylor should be ready to play after the Week 8 bye. Taylor has played well at times this season but should be a starting option against certain opponents.

Bills | OC confident in EJ Manuel

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 09:46:34 -0700

Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Greg Roman has full confidence in QB EJ Manuel and won't rule out that he could take the starting quarterback job from QB Tyrod Taylor if he lights it up in Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. "We have full confidence in EJ and we love the skill set. He's doing really good in his preparation. I really think he's growing as a professional in how he prepares week to week and I think that will really serve him well moving forward," Roman said. Roman also said he thinks Manuel can still develop into an elite quarterback. The Bills have some pressure to find out how good Manuel can be after he was a first-round pick, Roman admitted.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) will start again for the injured Taylor this weekend, but the Bills are also missing Sammy Watkins and Percy Harvin, so choosing Manuel as a deep sleeper isn't a smart move on FantasyScore.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor splitting reps

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 09:23:17 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor (knee) took the first repetitions at practice Wednesday, Oct. 21, but the repetitions were split evenly with QB EJ Manuel. Taylor's workload is more than he was able to do at this point last week. However, the coaching staff isn't telling him anything in relation to his status for Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Taylor ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) to be highly questionable again this week against the Jags. The Bills will likely be without both Sammy Watkins and Percy Harvin, too, so even if Taylor does play, he's a shaky FantasyScore quarterback.

Bills | EJ Manuel has fair outing in relief

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 13:50:18 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel threw for 263 yards and one touchdown but was picked off once Sunday, Oct. 18, in a 34-21 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) was going up against the Bengals defense, to be fair. He was also without WR Sammy Watkins for most of the time due to an ankle injury. See how Manuel does against a weaker opponent, assuming Taylor's knee isn't healthy again.

Bills | EJ Manuel may push for QB job

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 08:10:58 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel could be given the chance to compete with QB Tyrod Taylor (knee) for the starting quarterback job if he plays well against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) will receive his first start of the season in Week 6 and could have some offensive weapons returning from injury. Taylor ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) likely will be the starter again when he returns from injury but could be on a shorter leash if Manuel plays well. Manuel is not a great starting option against the Bengals this week.

Bills | EJ Manuel will start in Week 6

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 07:07:52 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel will be the starting quarterback for the Week 6 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) will be starting in place of the injured Tyrod Taylor ($7,300, 14.6% of cap). Manuel lost the competition for the starting quarterback job during training camp and probably will not be asked to do much in the passing game this week. Owners probably should look for other options to use in their lineups.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor expected to sit

Sat, 17 Oct 2015 12:31:00 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor (knee) will probably be sidelined for Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals. QB EJ Manuel is expected to start.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is a cheap play on FantasyScore this week, but he's not as versatile as Taylor, so expectations should be tempered. Manuel is expected to have LeSean McCoy and Sammy Watkins back, however, so he isn't the worst low-end play.

Bills | EJ Manuel should start

Sat, 17 Oct 2015 12:02:02 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel is expected to start in Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals in place of QB Tyrod Taylor (knee). Taylor tried to convince the coaching staff he could play, but he was deemed not ready.

Fantasy Tip: The Bills aren't the same offense without Taylor, even if they'll have LeSean McCoy and Sammy Watkins back. For FantasyScore players, Manuel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) provides a cheap option at quarterback and enables higher-salaried players to be rostered. Not a lot should be expected from Manuel, however.

Bills | EJ Manuel takes most reps

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 10:54:18 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel took most of the first-team repetitions again Thursday, Oct. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) wouldn't be a good FantasyScore start against the Cincinnati Bengals if Tyrod Taylor (knee) can't play.

Bills | EJ Manuel to see majority of reps

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 22:09:03 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel will see "the majority of reps" in practice this week with QB Tyrod Taylor (knee) dealing with a sprained medial collateral ligament, head coach Rex Ryan said Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) will more than likely be under center against the unbeaten Cincinnati Bengals, but he is not a recommended FantasyScore start, even at a low salary.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor not being ruled out

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 09:17:57 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor (knee) will practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Oct. 14, and head coach Rex Ryan thinks Taylor has a chance to play in Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Ryan said Taylor was "banged up" and "sore" Monday, Oct. 12, and a report later surfaced that Taylor was dealing with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee and "might miss multiple games." Ryan is certainly not ruling Taylor out this weekend. QB EJ Manuel would start in Taylor's place if he can't play.

Fantasy Tip: The Bengals present a tough matchup as it is, and the injury on top of it makes Taylor ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) a quarterback to avoid in Week 6. He's likely to be listed as questionable for the weekend. Manuel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) isn't worth the risk, either, as a deep sleeper if Taylor is inactive.

Bills | EJ Manuel preparing to start

Tue, 13 Oct 2015 11:51:26 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel is planning to start in Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals. QB Tyrod Taylor is suffering from a sprained medial collateral ligament.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel is cheap, but he's too big of a risk to seriously consider starting on FantasyScore this week, unless one wants to invest more on higher-priced players at other positions.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor could miss games

Tue, 13 Oct 2015 11:38:35 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor (knee) could miss multiple games with a medial collateral ligament sprain he suffered in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans. QB EJ Manuel will start in Week 6 if Taylor is ruled out.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor has been one of the most pleasant surprises in fantasy football this year, and the Bills surely don't need him to aggravate the injury. Manuel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) isn't a recommended start, but he could enable more to be spent at other positions for studs.

Bills | Optimism in EJ Manuel allows trade

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 07:06:58 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel gave head coach Rex Ryan enough optimism to allow them to trade QB Matt Cassel to the Dallas Cowboys. "How we feel about EJ Manuel is why a move like this is made," Ryan said. "At this spot, this was more done by how we view EJ Manuel than Matt Cassel. EJ will develop more as the two than the three."

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 08:27:06 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor was named the starting quarterback Monday, Aug. 31, over QB Matt Cassel an QB EJ Manuel.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor is a developing quarterback with some wheels. He's not as polished as a passer. He'll be a low-end QB2 selection that you can probably take a flyer on late in drafts.

Bills | EJ Manuel, Tyrod Taylor play well

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 07:05:59 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel went 7-for-8 for 170 yards and two touchdowns in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29. QB Tyrod Taylor went 12-for-13 for 122 yards and a rushing touchdown during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel could be back in the competition for the starting job after his performance, but all three quarterbacks played well in the game. The Bills are expected to name a starter in the near future but that player will be no more than a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Bills | Buffalo QBs should play equally

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 12:07:05 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor are expected to play a series or two each Saturday, Aug. 29, versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. Manuel will start.

Fantasy Tip: This could be the last big opportunity for all three quarterbacks to prove they deserve the Bills' starting quarterback job. Cassel has the experience, while Taylor and Manuel both offer more with their running ability, specifically Taylor. Whoever starts should not be a starting fantasy quarterback, however.

Bills | EJ Manuel wants to stay in Buffalo

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 11:57:45 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel said he loves being with the Bills and wants to stay with the team, despite seemingly being the third quarterback on the depth chart. Manuel has rolled well with the punches, however, saying he's taking what is given to him and just doing his best. He is also looking forward to Buffalo's third preseason game this weekend. "I don't know how it's going to play out as far as the game yet, but for me, whatever reps I do get, I just try to take advantage of them like I did the past two weeks," Manuel said.

Fantasy Tip: Manuel played well last week against the Cleveland Browns, throwing for 111 yards and one touchdown. Unfortunately for Manuel, Tyrod Taylor and Matt Cassel haven't really done anything to force the Bills to demote them. Manuel may very well make the final roster, but it doesn't look like he'll start at this point.
