Phillies | Maikel Franco to start at 3B

Fri, 15 May 2015 11:19:57 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco, who was recalled from Class AAA Lehigh Valley (Pa.) Friday, May 15, will be the team's starting second baseman after the Phillies sent 3B Cody Asche down to the minors earlier this week in order to convert to a left fielder. "This was a baseball decision based on Maikel's development and performance," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement. "We believe he is ready for the next step." Franco was hitting .355 with three home runs and 24 RBI in 33 games for Lehigh Valley before being called up. The Phillies retain his rights until 2022 before he can become a free agent by waiting until Friday to promote him.

Fantasy Tip: Franco will initially be a relatively cheap third base commodity at FantasyScore, and it's tempting to immediately throw him in there against Arizona Diamondbacks starter Chase Anderson in his season debut Friday night as a value play.

Phillies | Cody Asche optioned out

Mon, 11 May 2015 22:11:21 -0700

The Philadelphia Phillies optioned 3B Cody Asche to Class AAA Lehigh Valley (Pa.) Monday, May 11. He will transition from third base to learn the left field position.

Fantasy Tip: With Asche farmed out, prospect Maikel Franco will get a look with the big club. He could be a cheap source of power if he gets off to a strong start with the big club.

Phillies | Cody Asche sitting out Saturday

Sat, 09 May 2015 12:42:26 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Cody Asche is not in the starting lineup against the New York Mets Saturday, May 9. INF Andres Blanco will fill in at the hot corner.

Fantasy Tip: Asche ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is out of the lineup due to the team facing a left-handed starter (Jon Niese). Blanco ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has little fantasy value and better options can be found in FantasyScore for a comparable price.

Phillies | Cody Asche moves up to third

Tue, 05 May 2015 14:27:20 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Cody Asche is hitting third in the batting order against Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller Tuesday, May 5, with 2B Chase Utley sitting out.

Fantasy Tip: Asche ($2,000, 4.0% of cap), who is hitting .271 (23-for-85) with two home runs and four RBI could eventually wind up in the heart of the order if Utley continues to tank at the plate. Asche is more of a midrange third base option tonight against Miller, who dealt against the Phils earlier this year.

Phillies | Cody Asche on the bench

Mon, 04 May 2015 12:55:24 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Cody Asche is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 4.

Fantasy Tip: Asche ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) probably is not playing since the team is playing a left-handed pitcher. Cesar Hernandez ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) will be the starting third baseman but should not be a starting option on FantasyScore.

Phillies | Cody Asche destined for left field?

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 14:30:03 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Cody Asche shagged fly balls in left field during batting practice Tuesday, April 28. With prospect 3B Maikel Franco expected to join the Phillies this season, Asche might relocate to left field. "At some point we need to make sure that Cody is prepared," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Wednesday, April 29. "It's no secret that Maikel is doing very well down there. We want to try to create as much versatility with our guys as we possibly can."

Fantasy Tip: While Asche ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has a respectable .303 batting average for the season, his four runs, two home runs and three RBI leave a lot to be desired in the counting stats. He cannot be started in the majority of seasonal leagues, and he makes for a risky FantasyScore play with such little upside. Until the Phillies start to score more runs, Asche's fantasy impact will be limited, despite his solid average.

Phillies | Cody Asche not in lineup

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 07:39:13 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Cody Asche is not in the starting lineup Sunday, April 26.

Fantasy Tip: Asche ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is off to a solid start this season and likely will return to the lineup for the next game. Cesar Hernandez ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) will start at third base, but owners may want to look for other options to use at the position.

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 13:45:30 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Cody Asche is out of the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez Friday, April 10. SS Andres Blanco is starting at the hot corner and hitting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Blanco ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be avoided for all daily lineups against Gonzalez Friday night.

Phillies | Cody Asche fine after HBP

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 20:47:08 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Cody Asche (triceps) was hit on the right triceps by a pitch in the spring game Monday, March 9. He left the game with swelling in his right triceps, but he checked out fine after the game.

Fantasy Tip: Asche might need a day or two to recovery, but the injury is not expected to be something which holds him out for long.

Phillies | Cody Asche to play OF?

Mon, 02 Feb 2015 15:56:53 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Cody Asche is seeing some repetitions in the outfield in Florida before the official start of spring training. However, the team still views Asche as their starting third baseman heading into the season, according to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. A position switch has been rumored for Asche for years, and the team is short on position-player prospects, aside from 3B Maikel Franco. Amaro thinks Asche has the athleticism to move positions if it's in the club's best interest. Franco will be with the team in spring training after hitting .337 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 22 playoff games in the Dominican Winter League.
