Phillies | Cody Asche ramping up

Tue, 10 May 2016 17:30:04 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B/OF Cody Asche (oblique) has been ramping up. He's taking batting practice in Florida and is expected to play in an extended spring training game in the next day or two.

Fantasy Tip: On most teams, Asche is just a bench piece, but given Philadelphia's weak depth in the outfield, he should be thrust into a starting role upon his return. He hasn't played yet this season but the 25-year-old might provide decent power for owners in very deep leagues.

Phillies | Cody Asche lands on DL

Sat, 02 Apr 2016 14:04:28 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Cody Asche (oblique) was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday, April 2.

Fantasy Tip: Asche strained his oblique in late February and hasn't been able to do much since. The former third baseman has flashed a bit of power when he's had the opportunity in three seasons in Philadelphia but will probably be hard-pressed to be even remotely fantasy-relevant again as the Phillies focus on continuing their youth movement.

Phillies | Cody Asche could land on DL

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 17:49:27 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies OF Cody Asche (oblique) could begin the regular season on the disabled list, after a recent MRI exam revealed that he had a Grade 1 right oblique strain. He has been shut down and it is uncertain when he will be able to resume hitting.

Fantasy Tip: Asche was in line for increased playing time in left field following the wrist injury to Aaron Altherr last week but now it appears that Rule 5 pick Tyler Goeddel could be the most likely player to see a spike in fantasy value. Continue to monitor Goeddel throughout spring training and he could be worth a late-round flier in NL-only leagues if he performs well.

Phillies | Philly has several LF options

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 08:55:03 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies OFs Cody Asche, Darnell Sweeney, Tyler Goeddel, Cedric Hunter and David Lough are all possibilities to play left field with OF Aaron Altherr (wrist) out four to six months.

Fantasy Tip: Asche has the most experience after hitting 12 home runs in 425 at-bats last year for Philly. His second half shows his power can play, but he won't help much in average and doesn't do anything else particularly well. Keep your expectations tempered as mainly an NL-only weapon.

Phillies | Cody Asche as trade bait?

Tue, 06 Oct 2015 12:40:07 -0700

The Philadelphia Phillies may look at 3B Cody Asche as a possible trade candidate in the offseason. Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia noted Asche was looked at by the Miami Marlins and Milwaukee Brewers, and another team may be interested to give him a longer look at third.

Fantasy Tip: Asche could see his fantasy value rise with regular playing time on another team, but for now he is with Philadelphia. Watch the situation and see where he ends up before shuffling Asche on your draft board.

Phillies | Maikel Franco not starting Game 1

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 10:43:56 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) is not in the starting lineup against SP Tom Koehler for the first game of a doubleheader against the Miami Marlins Saturday, Oct. 3. 3B/OF Cody Asche will bat fifth and play the hot corner.

Fantasy Tip: Franco is available to play this weekend, although it is unknown if he will start any games or just be available off the bench. It's too much of a risk for fantasy owners to rely on him during the final days of the regular season.

Phillies | Cody Asche starting at third base

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 14:06:10 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Cody Asche is starting at third base and batting seventh against Boston Red Sox SP Joe Kelly Friday, Sept. 4. SS Andres Blanco is not in the starting lineup Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Blanco ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has been receiving the majority of starts at third base of late, but you'll want to avoid him in all fantasy formats Friday. He also doesn't warrant ownership outside of cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. FantasyScore plays can also avoid Asche ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) Friday. Kelly ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) has been lights out over his past five starts with a 1.69 ERA.

Phillies | Jeff Francoeur receives start

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 13:15:46 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Jeff Francoeur will start in right field against New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon Monday, Aug. 31, and is batting fifth in the lineup. OF Cody Asche is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Francoeur ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is hitting .298 with three home runs and nine RBI this month and could be a cheaper starting option on FantasyScore.

Phillies | Domonic Brown returns to lineup

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 12:39:00 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown will bat sixth and play right field against San Diego Padres SP Colin Rea Saturday, Aug. 29. OF Aaron Altherr, who played right field Friday, Aug. 28, will bat third and play left field Saturday, with OF Cody Asche getting the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Brown ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is batting only .175 with three home runs and 11 RBIs this month, so he should be ignored for fantasy purposes. Altherr ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is 7-for-27 this season, with all of his hits having gone for extra bases (four doubles, one triple and two home runs). He could be worth a flier in FantasyScore tonight.

Phillies | Aaron Altherr hitting fifth vs. Mets

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 12:23:01 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Aaron Altherr is starting in left field and batting fifth against New York Mets SP Jon Niese Thursday, Aug. 27. OF Cody Asche is not in the starting lineup Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Altherr ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has flashed some pop with two home runs and a .667 slugging percentage through his first 21 plate appearances. He is a viable flier at FantasyScore Thursday. Asche ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has been trending in the right direction with a .276/.364/.483 slash line in August, but he is still nothing more than a low-end option in all fantasy formats.
