Rays | Enny Romero impressing

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 16:27:52 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays RP Enny Romero has impressed manager Kevin Cash in camp so far. Romero is penciled in the bullpen since he is out of minor league options. Romero said he dropped 15 pounds in the offseason and trained hard during winter ball. He also took care of a potential pitch-tipping flaw in his delivery.

Fantasy Tip: Keep Romero on your radar in deep mixed and AL-only leagues as a sleeper for saves if Brad Boxberger falters in the closer's role this year.

Rays | Brad Boxberger the sole closer

Thu, 28 Jan 2016 16:26:28 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays RP Brad Boxberger is now Tampa's sole closer after they traded RP Jake McGee to the Colorado Rockies Thursday, Jan. 28. RPs Xavier Cedeno and Enny Romero are the only left-handers in the bullpen now, alongside right-handed RPs Alex Colome, Steven Geltz, Danny Farquhar and Andrew Bellatti.

Fantasy Tip: Boxberger struggled in the second half last year, but now he has much more leeway and rope as Tampa's ninth-inning closer. The right-hander had a 3.71 ERA last year and a career-high 41 saves.

Rays | Jake McGee has torn meniscus

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 09:01:18 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Jake McGee (knee) will have surgery to fix a torn meniscus in his knee Friday, Aug. 21. He could miss the rest of the season, as he's expected to miss six to eight weeks. The regular season ends October 4. McGee was put on the 15-day disabled list, and RP Enny Romero was recalled from Class AAA Durham in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: With McGee likely done for the year, that gives Brad Boxberger, who has two blown saves and has allowed three earned runs in his last 4 1/3 innings, more rope in the closer's role. Boxberger has 29 saves on the season.

Rays | Richie Shaffer sent down

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 09:38:24 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 3B Richie Shaffer was optioned to Class AAA Durham Monday, Aug. 17, and RP Enny Romero was recalled in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Shaffer ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) had played sparingly since his call-up earlier this month, and he had five hits in 19 at-bats, including two home runs and two RBI. Shaffer had 23 home runs and 59 RBI in 334 at-bats in two minor league stops, so he has intriguing power and could help those in deep leagues next month when rosters expand.
