Athletics | Khris Davis in cleanup spot

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 11:59:08 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis is hitting cleanup against Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander Wednesday, April 27.

Fantasy Tip: After a slow start, Davis has a .333 average (9-for-27) with two home runs and six RBI in his last seven games. If he's left on the waiver wire in your mixed league and you're looking for power, now is the time to scoop him up. Hitting cleanup tonight against Verlander is a nice place to buy low on Davis in daily setups, too.

Athletics | Billy Butler, Coco Crisp out

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 11:23:49 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Billy Butler and OF Coco Crisp are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 19. OF Khris Davis moves to the designated hitter spot and is batting seventh, while OF Chris Coghlan is starting in left field and hitting second against New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has only six hits in 37 at-bats (.162) with 15 strikeouts, so until he breaks out of his funk it'd be wise to avoid him in daily formats. Coghlan hits righties well; all 16 of his long balls last season came against right-handers. He makes for an intriguing low-priced sleeper against Pineda Tuesday.

Athletics | Khris Davis not in lineup

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 11:23:19 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis is not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Kris Medlen. OF Coco Crisp will start in left field and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp had some success at the plate around a week ago but has gone hitless in his last 10 at-bats. Crisp could be an option for owners looking for speed since he has three stolen bases in the first few weeks.

Athletics | Khris Davis, Jed Lowrie resting

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 09:40:47 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis and 2B Jed Lowrie are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 13. OF Coco Crisp is starting in left field and is in the two-hole, while OF Chris Coghlan is starting at second base and batting sixth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has fizzled out of the gates, hitting just .167 (5-for-30) with 14 strikeouts. You should consider keeping him benched when he returns until he shows signs of life. Against Shoemaker, who had a 4.46 ERA last year and looked shaky in his first start this year, both Crisp and Coghlan could be sneaky daily sleepers Wednesday afternoon.

Athletics | Khris Davis takes a seat Thursday

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 09:19:50 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 7. OF Coco Crisp takes his spot in left field and is hitting ninth against Chicago White Sox SP Mat Latos.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp is an aging outfielder with plenty of injury risk, so he should be left to the waiver wire in all mixed leagues. Latos had a rough spring and could struggle again in 2016, but Crisp doesn't carry a lot of daily intrigue as a deep sleeper while hitting at the bottom of Oakland's lineup.

Athletics | Khris Davis belts second spring homer

Sat, 02 Apr 2016 16:29:38 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis belted a solo home run and drew a pair of walks against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday, April 2.

Fantasy Tip: Davis finishes the spring with a .314 batting average, two homers and 10 RBI, and should be a fine third fantasy outfielder in 2016. The 28-year-old slugger should be a cheap power source for his owners again this year after slamming 27 home runs in 392 at-bats for the Milwaukee Brewers last season, but he will likely bat at the bottom of the order if Oakland's recent lineup submissions provide any hint of what the Athletics are planning to do offensively.

Athletics | Khris Davis likely to hit in middle

Mon, 15 Feb 2016 07:36:37 -0800

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis is likely to hit in the middle of the order, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser said on MLB Network's "Hot Stove" Monday, Feb. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Davis could be the team's cleanup hitter after a .247-27-66 line in 392 at-bats last season. The ballpark change could affect him, but he's still a solid OF3 with 25-homer potential.

Athletics | Billy Butler headed for reduced role?

Sun, 14 Feb 2016 20:34:10 -0800

Oakland Athletics 1B Billy Butler will likely lose playing time following the acquisition of OF Khris Davis. Davis is expected to play left field, and OF Coco Crisp will see time as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Butler's offensive numbers were already slipping the last couple of years, and fewer at-bats will render him irrelevant in most fantasy leagues.

Brewers | Milwaukee preparing to trade Lucroy?

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 15:44:53 -0800

The Milwaukee Brewers traded OF Khris Davis to the Oakland Athletics Friday, Feb. 12, in exchange for P Bubba Derby and C Jacob Nottingham.

Fantasy Tip: Milwaukee's youth movement/rebuild continues. Nottingham is a notable catching prospect with power that figures to be the Brewers catcher of the future if/when they trade Jonathan Lucroy. This trade likely opens up a starting job for Domingo Santana in left field. He had six homers in only 121 at-bats last year but struggles to make contact. Regardless, he's a big-time sleeper late in drafts with a guaranteed spot. Former Padres prospect Rymer Liriano and Kirk Nieuwenhuis could work their way into a platoon in the outfield. Liriano is the more intriguing deep mixed and NL-only gamble with more upside.

Athletics | A's acquire Khris Davis

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 15:33:11 -0800

The Oakland Athletics acquired OF Khris Davis from the Milwaukee Brewers Friday, Feb. 12, in exchange for P Bubba Derby and C Jacob Nottingham.

Fantasy Tip: Davis hit 20 bombs in his final 183 at-bats to end 2015. When healthy he's a candidate to approach 40 homers, although the move to pitcher-friendly O.co Coliseum isn't the ideal move. Still, he should see everyday playing time in left field and will be undervalued in the middle rounds. His arrival is bad news for Mark Canha and Coco Crisp.
