Wed, 20 Sep 2006 21:44:11 -0700

Charles Chandler, of the Charlotte Observer, reports eight of 10 Carolina Panthers players approached by the paper said they were willing to be blood-tested for human growth hormone (HGH) if the NFL is able to find a safe and reliable test. FB Brad Hoover said, "The guys that use (HGH) are given an unfair advantage over the rest of us. They should be held accountable and should be tested for it." OT Jordan Gross added, "I think the more testing, the better. It just makes the game cleaner. It makes the fans enjoy it more. It makes it seem like a more wholesome league." NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA executive director Gene Upshaw will meet Thursday, Sept. 21 to discuss potential changes and new initiatives in the league's testing policy. C Justin Hartwig was one player that believed blood testing is too invasive. "Sticking a needle into somebody, I don't think we should have to be subjected to that whenever they want to - which is basically what would happen. I don't think anybody likes giving blood. If HGH is your worst problem, then there's obviously, I think, a lot worse drugs out there than HGH that could affect performance more so than that, said Hartwig.
