Reds | Anthony DeSclafani rehab update

Sat, 21 May 2016 12:26:39 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) will make a rehab start for Class AAA Louisville Wednesday, May 25, according to manager Bryan Price.

Fantasy Tip: If all goes well, DeSclafani could be back with the parent club in two to three weeks, so he should remain stashed in NL-only and deep mixed formats. However, DFS players should give him one or two starts after he is activated before depending on him again.

Reds | Three rehab starts for Anthony DeSclafani

Fri, 20 May 2016 12:48:13 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) will probably make three rehab starts before being activated from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Barring a setback, DeSclafani is likely two to three weeks away from returning to the mound for the Reds. He is a worthy stash in deep mixed and NL-only league because of the improvement he made in the strikeout column in the second half last year (8.3 K/9). However, you'll want to keep expectations in check and potentially even take a wait-and-see approach before starting him, especially in daily contests. Stay tuned for updates.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani talks oblique injury

Wed, 18 May 2016 16:16:22 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) threw a bullpen session and two, 20-pitch simulated innings Tuesday, May 17, and said he felt solid.

"I'm not even thinking about the oblique and that's a good thing," DeSclafani said. "I warm up and then I throw and I'm not even concerned that it is going to bother me, and I think that's a good sign that it is healed up."

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani is worth stashing in NL-only formats and deeper mixed leagues. His 8.3 K/9 through 14 second-half starts last year made the 26-year-old righty a late-round flier this spring, and once he proves his health, he could be a factor in the majority of seasonal leagues. Continue to check back for updates on his progress and for a more concrete return timeline.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani to throw Saturday

Sat, 14 May 2016 11:07:00 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session in Philadelphia Saturday, May 14, for the first time since being shut down due to discomfort in his side during a late-April rehab start.

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani had been throwing on flat ground for several days prior to this point. He's still several weeks away from returning to action and is not worth stashing outside of NL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani resumes throwing

Mon, 09 May 2016 19:09:18 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) has resumed throwing after being shut down due to discomfort in his second minor-league rehab outing with Class A Dayton April 29. He long-tossed from a distance of 100 feet.

Fantasy Tip: It appears DeSclafani is progressing, and he might be ready in a couple of weeks. Avoid him in all fantasy formats until he can officially return and make it through a full game or two without any setbacks.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani still not in the clear

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 15:50:10 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) felt discomfort in his side during his rehab start Friday, April 29. "(He) just hasn't gotten to where he's sensation-free and we're not going to push him through it," manager Bryan Price said. "We're really doing everything we can to avoid a setback. He was good until the last inning or so, and then it was an issue."

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani's status is unclear, but he will likely have to make another rehab start without feeling the sensation in his oblique. He showed flashes early last season before eventually tailing off. He's really only an NL-only commodity.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani impressive Friday

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 19:11:08 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) tossed five scoreless innings in his second rehab start for Class A Dayton Friday, April 29. He allowed three hits and one walk while striking out five batters.

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani's next start could come at the MLB level at some point next week. He should remain stashed in NL-only and deep mixed leagues but daily fantasy gamers are advised to avoid using him in his first start or two after coming off the disabled list.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani has mixed results

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 07:28:28 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) allowed three runs on five hits and a walk over four innings in his first rehab start for Class AA Pensacola Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani was limited to a pitch count of 60-65 and struggled with his hanging breaking pitches, allowing both of his homers on curveballs. He is expected to make one more rehab start for Pensacola before a possible return to the majors. DeSclafani should remain stashed in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues but should be avoided in daily fantasy games in his first start or two following his return.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani set for rehab start

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 14:27:25 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) will begin his rehab assignment Saturday, April 23, with a start for Class AA Pensacola.

Fantasy Tip: This means DeSclafani is getting closer to his return, and based on how he pitched last year in his first season with the Reds, he'll have potential to stick on fantasy rosters in many formats. It could take him a little while to get in a rhythm, though, so owners would be advised to wait until he strings together his first couple of quality outings.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani feeling good

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 15:42:56 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) came away "feeling good" after throwing a 40-pitch live batting practice session Monday, April 18. His rehab assignment will be next.

Fantasy Tip: It's not known yet when DeSclafani will set forth on his first rehab assignment but at least it looks like he's drawing closer to his season debut. DeSclafani displayed some noteworthy potential at times throughout last season and is at least worthy of being monitored upon his arrival in case he gets into a rhythm early on.
