Reds | Anthony DeSclafani has mixed results

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 07:28:28 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) allowed three runs on five hits and a walk over four innings in his first rehab start for Class AA Pensacola Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani was limited to a pitch count of 60-65 and struggled with his hanging breaking pitches, allowing both of his homers on curveballs. He is expected to make one more rehab start for Pensacola before a possible return to the majors. DeSclafani should remain stashed in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues but should be avoided in daily fantasy games in his first start or two following his return.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani set for rehab start

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 14:27:25 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) will begin his rehab assignment Saturday, April 23, with a start for Class AA Pensacola.

Fantasy Tip: This means DeSclafani is getting closer to his return, and based on how he pitched last year in his first season with the Reds, he'll have potential to stick on fantasy rosters in many formats. It could take him a little while to get in a rhythm, though, so owners would be advised to wait until he strings together his first couple of quality outings.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani feeling good

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 15:42:56 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) came away "feeling good" after throwing a 40-pitch live batting practice session Monday, April 18. His rehab assignment will be next.

Fantasy Tip: It's not known yet when DeSclafani will set forth on his first rehab assignment but at least it looks like he's drawing closer to his season debut. DeSclafani displayed some noteworthy potential at times throughout last season and is at least worthy of being monitored upon his arrival in case he gets into a rhythm early on.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani rehab update

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 17:43:02 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) is scheduled to throw his second bullpen session of the week Friday, April 15. If all goes well, he will throw live batting practice Monday, April 18, before being sent on a rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani should remain stashed in NL-only and deep mixed fantasy leagues because of his high strikeout-to-walk ratio and strong performance during the second half of last season. Daily fantasy players should wait until he has made several starts before considering him as a viable pitching option.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani plays catch

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 23:54:28 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) was able to play catch Monday, April 11, and he is scheduled for a bullpen session Wednesday, April 13. If all goes well manager Bryan Price said the next step would be a minor-league rehab outing.

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani was expected to be the team's opening day starter, but an injury derailed those plans. He is worth a roster spot in NL-only fantasy leagues, but wait to see his first few outings before considering him in mixed formats.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani to play catch Monday

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 10:32:18 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) could throw at some point this weekend and he is scheduled to play catch Monday, April 11. If all goes well, he will throw a bullpen session in Chicago Wednesday, April 13.

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani was scratched from his scheduled start versus the Pittsburgh Pirates Sunday, April 10, in favor of SP Tim Melville, who will be making his major-league debut. DeSclafani should remain stashed in all fantasy formats based on his performance during the second half of last season, along with an impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani won't go Sunday

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 14:20:14 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) does not feel 100% yet, and while he did not suffer a setback, he will not start Sunday, April 10, according to manager Bryan Price.

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani registered a 22.0 strikeout percentage and 4.0 walk percentage after the All-Star break last season, which makes him a potential breakout candidate in deep mixed leagues. Stay tuned for updates on when he'll return to the starting rotation.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani over oblique injury

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 13:29:50 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) said he has not felt oblique pain for over a week and felt fine during and after his bullpen session Wednesday, April 6.

Fantasy Tip: Look for an official announcement on when DeSclafani will make his 2016 debut. Reiterating a previous tip, his strong second half makes the 25-year-old righty a breakout candidate for deep mixed and NL-only formats, especially after posting a 22.0 strikeout percentage and 4.0 walk percentage after the All-Star break last year.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani tosses bullpen session

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 12:35:22 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) threw a live bullpen session Wednesday, April 6.

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani could make his 2016 debut as early as April 10 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is a breakout candidate after posting an 8.28 K/9 and 1.51 BB/9 in the second half last season. Still, keep expectations in check, and it isn't out of the question to let DeSclafani prove himself in an outing before rushing him back into your fantasy lineup, especially in daily contests. He also should be expected to pitch above a SP5 level in deeper mixed leagues.

Reds | Anthony DeSclafani to DL

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 09:42:07 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained oblique Sunday, April 3.

Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani could only wind up missing a start or two. However, oblique injuries can be tricky and linger for pitchers, so keep an eye on his progress. DeSclafani flies under the radar as a ground-ball artist with elite control, and he's one of Cincy's more promising young starters. Take a flier on him off the waiver wire in deep mixed leagues when he returns.
