Walt Weiss Fantasy Baseball News, Notes, Rumors and Statistics
The latest Walt Weiss MLB and fantasy baseball news
Sun, 14 Apr 2013 23:27:22 -0700 After five appearances, Colorado Rockies RP Wilton Lopez has an ERA of 12.46 and opposing batters were hitting .520 against him. Despite that, Rockies manager Walt Weiss still intends to use Lopez as a late-inning reliever.
Sat, 09 Mar 2013 23:14:05 -0800 Colorado Rockies OF Eric Young Jr. went 3-for-3 Saturday, March 9, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, showing why manager Walt Weiss remains intrigued at using him in the leadoff spot. Young beat out a slow hopper to shortstop, lined a single to left field and executed a perfect bunt. "I got a lot of confidence from last season. It showed I could do it. It's about getting on base and creating havoc," Young Jr. said.
Sun, 03 Mar 2013 23:34:15 -0800 Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa lasted a little over an inning in his latest exhibition turn Sunday, March 3, and he gave up one run and two hits and walked three. He also plunked an Oakland Athletics batter with the bases full in the first inning. After two spring outings, De La Rosa's ERA stands at 7.36, but manager Walt Weiss is pleading patience because De La Rosa hasn't been on a mound full time in a year and a half.
Fri, 15 Feb 2013 16:52:14 -0800 Colorado Rockies OF Eric Young Jr. may benefit this year as the team's super utility player, which is something new skipper Walt Weiss has a fondness for. "He's primarily an infielder," Weiss said. "But I see him - especially for his career, and for us - if he could be a super-utility type guy, where he can play some second and play some third. We're not going to just throw him in there. He's going to run around the infield, take some ground balls, see what that looks like and how he feels. Maybe that's an option for us, to get what he does in the lineup."
Sat, 10 Nov 2012 23:16:15 -0800 Tom Runnells, one of the four finalists for the Rockies' managerial job, will be returning to the club as the bench coach in 2013. "I know Tommy, and I have history with Tommy," new manager Walt Weiss said Friday, Nov. 9. "Tommy will be a good guy for me to lean on. He has been here, coaching in this park. He's been in the game forever."
Fri, 09 Nov 2012 16:13:20 -0800 Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss will be under contract for only one season as the new manager.
Thu, 08 Nov 2012 00:51:32 -0800 The Colorado Rockies hired former Oakland Athletics SS Walt Weiss Wednesday, Nov. 7, to replace manager Jim Tracy, who resigned Oct. 7 with one year and $1.4 million left on his contract rather than return. A team spokesman said Weiss would be introduced at a news conference Friday, Nov. 9, at Coors Field.
Tue, 06 Nov 2012 14:56:11 -0800 The Colorado Rockies have whittled their managerial search down to two candidates, former SS Walt Weiss and Arizona Diamondbacks third base coach Matt Williams, according to a major league source. Weiss remains the favorite for the position, but Williams had an impressive interview Monday, Nov. 5. A decision is expected soon.

The team also talked with former manager Jerry Manuel, former Philadelphia Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin, Diamondbacks first base coach Eric Young and Texas Rangers minor league manager Steve Buechele.
Mon, 05 Nov 2012 07:17:07 -0800 The Colorado Rockies have their managerial search down to four: 1B Jason Giambi, former SS Walt Weiss, Arizona Diamondbacks third base coach Matt Williams and bench coach Tom Runnells.
