The latest Juan Nieves MLB and fantasy baseball news
Mon, 18 Feb 2013 22:26:54 -0800 Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell and pitching coach Juan Nieves had to talk to RP Alfredo Aceves Sunday, Feb. 17, after the pitcher spent what was supposed to be live batting practice lobbing pitches softly toward home plate. The team appears to be willing to work with Aceves this spring with the hope he will improve his rocky standing with the team before they explore options of releasing or trading him. He has a non-guaranteed contract of $2.65 million for 2013. Boston would have to pay him only $434,426, or one-sixth his salary, if he is released before March 13, or it will cost $651,639 (one-fourth) if he is released on or before March 27. The Red Sox could release him and owe Aceves nothing based on the citizenship clause in his contract if he passes unclaimed through waivers. Such a scenario likely would go to arbitration, however.
Wed, 23 Jan 2013 01:20:58 -0800 New Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell is impressed with what he has seen regarding RP Daniel Bard, who has changed some of his mechanics to avoid a repeat of his 2012 season. "He looked very good," said Farrell, who along with pitching coach Juan Nieves watched Bard throw in Mississippi. "His arm slot is back to a normal position. He shows the power he previously had as a reliever. His mind-set is more clear and his approach is more simplified."
Wed, 07 Nov 2012 11:20:25 -0800 The Boston Red Sox announced Wednesday, Nov. 7, that Juan Nieves will become their next pitching coach. He previously served as the bullpen coach for the Chicago White Sox.
Sun, 04 Nov 2012 10:43:19 -0800 The Boston Red Sox have not interviewed Kansas City Royals bullpen coach Doug Henry for their vacant pitching coach position, according to a team source. Chicago White Sox bullpen coach Juan Nieves, Baltimore Orioles director of pitching development Rick Peterson, Royals minor league pitching coordinator Steve Foster and Miami Marlins pitching coach Randy St. Claire remain the only known candidates for the job.
