Japanese League SP Shohei Otani has reversed course and accepted an offer from the Nippon-Ham Fighters, the team that drafted him with the No. 1 overall pick in October, according to Japanese reporter Yasuko Yanagita. Otani had been scouted by several major league teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are making efforts to reestablish their international presence but are becoming uncertain about their chances of signing their top targets from Asia. Talks with South Korean P Hyun-Jin Ryu are moving very slowly, according to general manager Ned Colletti. The Dodgers also think high school P Shohei Otani could remain in his native Japan instead of signing with a U.S. ballclub.

Japanese P Shohei Otani is sticking to his plan of joining a major league team even after being selected in the first round of the Japanese amateur draft. He's been scouted by the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox. "My feelings haven't changed. I'm grateful that they appreciate me, but it doesn't change my desire to play in America," Otani said.

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell confirmed that the team has met with Japanese P Shohei Otani, the 18-year-old flamethrower who wants to make the leap to the major leagues. The Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees also have interest.

Japanese high school P Shohei Otani plans to pursue a career in Major League Baseball rather than becoming a professional baseball player in Japan. The 18-year-old right-hander has a fastball clocked between 99 and 100 mph and has been scouted by several major league teams, including the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.
