Diamondbacks | Nick Ahmed takes a seat

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 14:46:52 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 29. SS Jean Segura moves to shortstop and 3B Brandon Drury is starting at second base and is hitting seventh against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood.

Fantasy Tip: Ahmed is a defensive-first shortstop who's hitting just .190 (15-for-79), and he could see more bench time if Drury continues to swing a hot bat. Ahmed is an NL-only depth piece. Drury is hitting a cool .414 (12-for-29) with two homers and four RBI in his last seven games. He's a waiver wire target in deep mixed leagues for depth. Keep rolling with him as a low-priced sleeper in daily formats while he's hot.

Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo sitting

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 13:59:56 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo is out of the lineup Saturday, April 23, and C Chris Herrmann is hitting eighth. SS Nick Ahmed has also been bumped up to sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Herrmann is just 1-for-20 (.050) on the season and isn't worth the start. Ahmed has cooled off and is 3-for-26 (.115) the last seven days. He could still be worth a low-end flyer against Juan Nicasio.

Diamondbacks | Two D-Backs sitting Thursday

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 09:40:34 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed and C Welington Castillo are out of the lineup Thursday, April 21, with 2B Phil Gosselin hitting sixth and C Chris Herrmann hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Gosselin is 5-for-9 (.556) with a homer the last seven days. He's a low-end flyer worth using against Johnny Cueto. Herrmann is just 1-for-17 (.059) on the season and isn't worth consideration.

Diamondbacks | Nick Ahmed moves up in order

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 15:42:01 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed is hitting seventh Saturday, April 16, against San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner.

Fantasy Tip: He has hit ninth for most of the season, but his .294-3-7 line appears to have earned him a small promotion. He remains a low-end grab at shortstop.

Diamondbacks | Nick Ahmed goes yard again

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 23:54:43 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed homered for the second straight day Wednesday, April 13.

Fantasy Tip: Ahmed has a .296-3-5 line to open the season, and most of it has come from the ninth spot in the lineup. He's an NL-only commodity for now, but he could creep up into the mixed MI spot discussion.

Diamondbacks | Nick Ahmed's hand fine

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 16:21:06 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed (hand) said his right hand is fine after he was hit by a pitch Tuesday, April 12. No X-rays were taken.

Fantasy Tip: Ahmed is playing above his head early on, hitting .286 (6-for-21) with two home runs. He's a career .222 hitter and hit a career-high nine long balls in 2015, so don't expect this to last.

Diamondbacks | Pack of Arizona hitters take a seat

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 12:27:44 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Jean Segura, C Welington Castillo, LF Yasmany Tomas and SS Nick Ahmed are out of the lineup against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta on Sunday, April 10. OF Socrates Brito is batting leadoff in place of Segura while 2B Phil Gosselin is at the keystone and hitting second. 3B/OF Brandon Drury is in left and batting fifth while INF/OF Chris Owings is replacing Segura in the field and hitting seventh. C Chris Hermann is behind the plate and batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Arrieta was already a strong play Sunday and facing a number of Arizona bench players probably isn't going to hurt his cause. Conversely, it's hard to recommend starting any Diamondbacks outside of Paul Goldschmidt and maybe David Peralta in year-long or DFS formats in this contest.

Diamondbacks | Nick Ahmed moves up in order

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 13:00:34 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed is hitting second in the lineup against Chicago Cubs SP John Lackey Thursday, April 7.

Fantasy Tip: Ahmed is off to a hot start in 2016 with six hits (one homer, three RBI) in his first 11 at-bats. He has some power for a middle infielder, but keep in mind it's a stretch to think he'll reach double-digit home runs. He's slightly more interesting in daily games tonight, but he's still more of a low-end shortstop option.

Diamondbacks | Middle infield to rotate in Arizona

Fri, 01 Apr 2016 14:06:53 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb will start at third base and SS Jean Segura, 2B Nick Ahmed and SS Chris Owings will rotate around at second base and shortstop. Segura is expected to play more at second base than shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: This was expected, although Segura should be in the lineup more often than not. Coming over from Milwaukee will boost Segura's value a bit in a better lineup, but he struggles to get on base and has little power. He'll be a low-end shortstop option but is more valuable in mixed leagues than either Ahmed and Owings.

Diamondbacks | MI rotation in Arizona?

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 11:32:35 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Jean Segura, 2B Chris Owings and SS Nick Ahmed could wind up in a rotation to share at-bats rather than being named starters, according to manager Chip Hale.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news for Ahmed, who appeared to be the odd man out. Ahmed is restricted to NL-only formats, while Segura and Owings are mid-to-low-end options at their positions.
