Diamondbacks | Nick Ahmed placed on disabled list

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 13:16:30 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed (hip) was placed on the 15 day disabled list on Saturday, July 23, with a right hip impingement. INF/OF Chris Owings was activated off the DL to replace Ahmed.

Fantasy Tip: Owings was batting .285 with two home runs with 18 RBI and eight stolen bases prior to being diagnosed with plantar fascilitis. He'll make his first start since June 5 on Saturday and represent an intermediate upgrade over Ahmed, who is hitting just .218 with four home runs and 20 RBI in 90 games this season. Owings has a shot to be relevant in mixed leagues before the end of the season, but owners should let him get re-acclimated to major-league pitching again first.

Diamondbacks | Welington Castillo gets a break

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 12:26:08 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo and SS Nick Ahmed are not in the lineup against the Cincinnati Reds SP Keyvius Sampson on Saturday, July 23. INF/OF Chris Owings will fill in for Ahmed and hit fifth, while C Tuffy Gosewisch will replace Castillo behind the plate and bat eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo is batting a miserable .158 in July, but this appears to be nothing more than a day off as he is in no danger of losing his job to Gosewisch. Owings will be making his first big-league appearance since June 5 after recovering from a foot injury, but neither Gosewisch nor Owings is worth using outside of NL-only leagues today.

Diamondbacks | Peter O'Brien optioned to Reno

Mon, 04 Jul 2016 13:43:19 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Peter O'Brien was optioned to Class AAA Reno Monday, July 4. In a corresponding move, SS Nick Ahmed was reinstated from the paternity list.

Fantasy Tip: O'Brien is a potential bench stash in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues because of his power upside, but he went just 7-for-57 during this recent stint in the majors. View Ahmed as a low-end option in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Diamondbacks | Nick Ahmed to paternity list

Sat, 02 Jul 2016 13:39:55 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed was placed on the paternity list Saturday, July 2.

Fantasy Tip: Phil Gosselin should see a couple of starts in his place. He's hitting .271, and he's a low-end option in DFS.

Diamondbacks | Three D-backs resting Wednesday

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 09:23:43 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed, C Welington Castillo and OF Peter O'Brien are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 29. 2B Phil Gosselin is starting at second and hitting second, C Chris Herrmann is catching and batting sixth and 3B Brandon Drury is in left field and hitting seventh against Philadelphia Phillies SP Zach Eflin.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the juicy lineup spot, Gosselin is a light-hitting middle infielder that isn't attractive to those playing DFS today. Drury had a hot start to the year but has faded with limited playing time and is a low-end option near the bottom of the order. Herrmann has been a big surprise this year with a .298/.363/.529 slash line, six home runs and 26 RBI. You could do much worse than Herrmann if you're looking for a cheap value pick at catcher in daily games.

Diamondbacks | Several ARI regulars return Saturday

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 10:47:31 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Yasmany Tomas, C Welington Castillo and SS Nick Ahmed (hip) are back in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa Saturday, June 25. In addition, INF/OF Brandon Drury will play third base and bat seventh, while 3B Jake Lamb receives the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Tomas has six home runs and 12 RBI during the month of June, including three homers in the past week, making him a viable outfield option in all formats. Castillo, Ahmed and Drury have been mediocre at the plate recently and should not be viewed as great fantasy options this afternoon.

Diamondbacks | Nick Ahmed has minor hip injury

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 17:41:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed (hip) is not in the starting lineup versus the Colorado Rockies Friday, June 24, because of "hip issues," according to manager Chip Hale. He is expected to return to the lineup Saturday, June 25.

Fantasy Tip: Ahmed is batting just .211 with four home runs and 19 RBI through 71 games and is known more for his glove than his bat. When healthy, he should be viewed as nothing more than an inexpensive flier in DFS and a low-end starting option in NL-only fantasy leagues.

Diamondbacks | Arizona resting two players

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 15:19:35 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo and SS Nick Ahmed are not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Anderson Friday, June 24. 2B Jean Segura will start at shortstop, while 2B Phil Gosselin will start at second base and is batting fourth. C Chris Herrmann will start at catcher and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Gosselin has been producing at the plate recently and has a .353 batting average and one RBI over the last seven days. He could be a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues. Herrmann is hitting .276 in June and should be a starting option in two-catcher leagues and some daily leagues.
