Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said he doesn't plan on retiring after this season as he enters the final year of his contract. "I still want to manage," Manuel said. "I'm not ready for somebody to tell me to go home. I'm not ready to quit managing. I'm not ready to get out of the game." Third base coach Ryne Sandberg is thought to be the next managerial candidate if Manuel steps down.

Philadelphia Phillies third base coach Ryne Sandberg has not been promised a managerial job down the road, and he's allowed to interview this offseason for managerial positions with other teams.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley manager Ryne Sandberg and pitching coach Rod Nichols joined the Philadelphia Phillies' coaching staff Friday, Sept. 7. General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said that, at the very least, Sandberg will be asked to return as the Triple-A manager next season, although Amaro admitted that he likely has more ambitious goals.
