Reds | Tony Cingrani can't close it out

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 20:11:50 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Tony Cingrani was pulled with two outs in the ninth against the Milwaukee Brewers Friday, July 15, after allowing one run on two hits and two walks. RP Russ Ohlendorf recorded the final out to pick up his second save in four chances.

Fantasy Tip: It was a bad showing for Cingrani, but he remains the closest thing to a reliable closer in Cincinnati's awful bullpen. He should still be a cheap source of saves going forward.

Reds | Tony Cingrani continues comeback

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 13:48:01 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Tony Cingrani picked up his ninth save in 14 chances Sunday, June 26, in a 3-0 win over the San Diego Padres.

Fantasy Tip: Cingrani has held his opponent scoreless in nine of 10 appearances this June. After a slow start to the season, it looks like Cingrani has finally found his footing. The Reds might be struggling, but Cingrani is still worth a fantasy spot.

Reds | Tony Cingrani nails down eighth save

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 22:09:51 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Tony Cingrani recorded his eighth save of the season Friday, June 17, against the Houston Astros, and he has not allowed a run in his last six appearances.

Fantasy Tip: Cingrani has emerged from a messy bullpen as the main option in the ninth inning, and he is worth owning in mixed formats if you need saves.

Reds | Tony Cingrani nails down save

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 22:49:47 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Tony Cingrani worked a perfect seven-pitch ninth inning Monday, June 13, against the Atlanta Braves for his seventh save.

Fantasy Tip: Cingrani has converted each of his past two save chances after a rocky stretch from mid-May to early June. He is still only worth trusting in the deepest of NL-only fantasy leagues until he goes another couple of weeks without any backtracking.

Reds | Tony Cingrani used in the eighth

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 19:28:17 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Tony Cingrani pitched a perfect eighth inning against the Oakland Athletics Saturday, June 11, and RP Ross Ohlendorf picked up the save.

Fantasy Tip: Cingrani has been Cincinnati's closer, albeit a shaky one, and it remains to be seen if Ohlendorf will see more chances going forward. Hang on to Cingrani for now, and add Ohlendorf to the list of potential adds if you are desperate for saves.

Reds | Tony Cingrani earns save Friday

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 19:17:53 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Tony Cingrani recorded his sixth save of the season against the Oakland Athletics Friday, June 10. He allowed one hit over one scoreless inning of work.

Fantasy Tip: Cingrani is worth owning if you're desperate for saves but he is one of the most inconsistent closers in baseball, with five blown saves in his last 22 appearances. He's the best reliever the Reds have this year but that's not saying much.

Reds | Tony Cingrani closes it out

Sat, 28 May 2016 20:52:20 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Tony Cingrani logged his fourth save of the season, striking out the side against the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday, May 28.

Fantasy Tip: Cingrani has still blown three of his last five save chances, but he is the best option in a historically bad Cincinnati bullpen. He is worth owning if you need saves, but he is a low-end fantasy closer.

Reds | Tony Cingrani blows another save

Fri, 20 May 2016 20:40:57 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Tony Cingrani blew his fourth save of the season and third in his last five appearances Friday, May 20, against the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Cingrani is becoming the latest Cincinnati reliever to blow his chance at being the primary closer. The Reds' bullpen as a whole has been an absolute disaster, and you are grasping at straws trying to figure out who will earn the next save.

Reds | Tony Cingrani blows a save

Wed, 18 May 2016 20:01:21 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Tony Cingrani blew the save against the Cleveland Indians Wednesday, May 18, by allowing a two-run home run to Indians OF Rajai Davis in the ninth inning. Cincy's bullpen has allowed 33 home runs and blown nine of their 13 save chances this year. Cingrani's ERA was raised to 3.86 on the season.

Fantasy Tip: The Reds bullpen has been historically bad this season. Both J.J. Hoover (demoted to minors) and Caleb Cotham didn't fare well in the ninth inning, and Cingrani, despite three saves, hasn't been very sharp, either. Cingrani continues to be the best bet for save chasers, but the recently promoted Jumbo Diaz has a better arsenal for the role and is a speculative addition in deeper leagues if you're desperate.

Reds | Tony Cingrani earns another save

Sun, 15 May 2016 15:59:23 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Tony Cingrani came on with a five-run lead in the ninth inning, but retired both of the hitters he faced with the bases loaded to post his third save of the season against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, May 15.

Fantasy Tip: The Reds' bullpen has been a mess for most of the season, although Cingrani may be emerging as the reliever to own in Cincinnati since he has recorded the team's last three saves. The 26-year-old southpaw issued eight free passes in 9 2/3 innings while going 0-2 in April but has mostly dependable with only two earned runs and two walks allowed across 7 1/3 frames in May. He's worth a shot for owners desperately seeking saves.
