Boston Red Sox 3B Xander Bogaerts may still play shortstop in 2014, but the club wants to get him right at the plate before considering it. The likeliest scenario for him playing shortstop would be against a left-handed pitcher.
Fantasy Tip: A lot depends on the status of Will Middlebrooks (finger), where Brock Holt will play, and whether they still value Stephen Drew (maybe he'll be traded). Bogaerts isn't starter-worthy right now in most mixed leagues.

Boston Red Sox INF/OF Brock Holt will play shortstop Wednesday, July 9, according to manager John Farrell. It'll be the sixth position Holt has played this season.
Fantasy Tip: It's doubtful he'll accrue enough time there to be eligible in all fantasy games, but it's something to watch and would increase his value.

Boston Red Sox 3B Brock Holt will be the team's utility infielder. The team views OF Mookie Betts as strictly an outfielder for now.

Boston Red Sox 3B Brock Holt could see time at shortstop, according to manager John Farrell.
Fantasy Tip: Holt is hitting .315 this season, and it appears Farrell wants to keep his bat in the lineup by any means necessary. If Holt is able to gain SS eligibility in the process, it would add to his value.

Boston Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks (finger) will see some work in the outfield while he is on a rehab stint. Middlebrooks is likely to lose playing time in the infield thanks to the combination of SS Stephen Drew, 3B Xander Bogaerts and 2B Brock Holt.

Boston Red Sox INF Brock Holt made his second straight start at first base Monday, June 2, against the Cleveland Indians, and he'll continue to fill in there until 1B-C Mike Napoli (calf, foot) is ready to return. When Napoli returns, the team will have to find creative ways to get Holt's bat into the lineup, and one option is having him learn outfield. "He's starting to get some work in BP, running down some balls in the outfield," manager John Farrell said. "We're going to look at every possibility to keep him in the lineup and if that means one of the outfield spots, we're certainly open-minded to it." Holt will most likely be tried in left field first.
Fantasy Tip: Holt has played his way into the lineup thanks to a solid bat, and defensive versatility. Fantasy owners in AL-only leagues would be lucky to have Holt, and if he can add outfield eligibility, even better.

Boston Red Sox SS Stephen Drew is in the starting lineup at shortstop after being recalled from the minors Monday, June 2. Drew is batting eighth in the order and SS Xander Bogaerts has moved over to third base. 3B Brock Holt is starting at first base and enters the day as the team's hottest hitter.
Fantasy Tip: Drew is expected to be the team's starting shortstop for the forseeable future. He's more of a defensive-minded shortstop, but he could help squads desperate for a stick at a middle infield spot in deep mixed formats. Holt should retain AL-only value, at least, until Mike Napoli returns from the DL.
