White Sox | Carlos Rodon placed on disabled list

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 09:06:16 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a sprained left wrist. In a corresponding move, RP Tommy Kahnle has been recalled from Class AAA Charlotte.

Fantasy Tip: Rodon is 2-7 with a 4.50 ERA through 16 starts, with 32 walks and 91 strikeouts through 92 innings. The 23-year-old lefty should be stashed in AL-only seasonal leagues and is worth using in DFS if the matchup is favorable due to his high strikeout totals.

White Sox | Melky Cabrera sidelined

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 11:47:52 -0700

Chicago White Sox OF Melky Cabrera (personal) was placed on the family emergency leave list. The club recalled RP Tommy Kahnle from Class AAA Charlotte in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: The Melk Man is having a very unspectacular season thus far in his second year with the White Sox, though he hasn't necessarily been awful. In any event, he'll probably miss at least a few games, which could pave the way for J.B Shuck or Jerry Sands to pick up some extra at-bats. Both would be dart throws in daily games, however.

White Sox | J.B. Shuck recalled

Mon, 30 May 2016 07:56:39 -0700

Chicago White Sox OF J.B. Shuck was recalled from Class AAA Charlotte Monday, May 30. The team also optioned RP Tommy Kahnle to Class AAA Charlotte.

Fantasy Tip: Shuck could see decent playing time if Jackson is sidelined for a few days. He did not record a hit in his nine at-bats earlier this season. Shuck could be a short-term option in AL-only leagues but can be avoided in most leagues.

White Sox | Tommy Kahnle acquired

Tue, 24 Nov 2015 14:12:55 -0800

The Chicago White Sox acquired RP Tommy Kahnle from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for SP Yency Almonte.

Fantasy Tip: Kahnle carries minimal fantasy value, as he had an 0-1 record and 4.86 earned run average, but his WHIP of 1.77 is particularly worrisome. Almonte was 11-7 in Class A ball with 38 walks and 110 strikeouts. He could be someone to watch in a couple years, so Almonte may be worth stashing away in a deep dynasty league.

Rockies | Tommy Kahnle logs shaky save

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 19:26:51 -0700

Colorado Rockies RP Tommy Kahnle escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth inning to record a save in a 6-4 win over the Washington Nationals Sunday, Aug. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Kahnle has converted both his save chances since being named the closer, but he hasn't exactly been dominant. Continue to hold on to him if you need saves, but don't be surprised if he loses the job before the end of the year.

Rockies | Tommy Kahnle named closer for COL

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 11:02:35 -0700

Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss has confirmed that RP Tommy Kahnle will serve as the team's closer for the foreseeable future.

Fantasy Tip: Kahnle has posted a 2.60 ERA in 29 games this season, with 35 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings. He earned his first major league save in his most recent appearance against the Washington Nationals Friday, Aug. 7. Owners in NL-only and deep mixed leagues should pick him up if they are desperate for saves.

Rockies | Closer-by-committee for Rockies

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 10:08:44 -0700

Colorado Rockies RP John Axford was placed on the family medical emergency list Tuesday, June 30, for the second time this season. However, Axford's son, who was recovering from a rattlesnake bite in spring training, is fine this time. In Axford's absence, the team will use a closer-by-committee approach, with RP LaTroy Hawkins among the candidates to record saves. RPs Scott Oberg and Tommy Kahnle will also be options.

Fantasy Tip: Hawkins is the most experienced reliever for the Rockies and recorded 23 saves for the team in 2014. He also successfully recorded his second save of the season in a clean inning Tuesday night over the Oakland Athletics. He should be your first target if you're searching for saves or own Axford. It's unknown when Axford will be returning, so this could be an extended chance for save opportunities for Hawkins and the others.

Rockies | Jordan Lyles might require surgery

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 18:22:46 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jordan Lyles (toe) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, June 1, due to a torn toe ligament. He will visit a foot specialist Tuesday, June 2, to determine if surgery is needed to repair the tear. The team recalled P Tommy Kahnle from Class AAA Albuquerque to take his roster spot.

Fantasy Tip: With Lyles down for the count, Chris Rusin is considered the likely candidate to move into the vacant rotation spot. He is worth a speculative pick in NL-only play if you’re desperate for starting pitching, and he is also worth monitoring in FantasyScore when the matchup is favorable.
