Braves | A.J. Pierzynski out of lineup Tuesday

Tue, 24 May 2016 13:25:38 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski is not starting Tuesday, May 24, against the Milwaukee Brewers. C Tyler Flowers is batting fifth against Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson.

Fantasy Tip: Flowers has seen the majority of the action this week, but this still looks like a true platoon. In his past 10 at-bats Flowers has two doubles and a home run, so he has demonstrated some slugging tendencies. The platoon situation makes Flowers less desirable in weekly or annual leagues, but DFS players should take advantage.

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson solid

Wed, 18 May 2016 23:19:24 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson allowed five hits and four walks over 7 1/3 shutout innings Wednesday, May 18, in a no-decision against the Chicago Cubs.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson has quietly been decent this year with a 4-3 record, a 3.07 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and a 7.06 K/9. He'll be a midrange DFS option when his turn comes around.

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson does it with arm, bat

Mon, 02 May 2016 22:32:28 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson allowed two runs and four hits over seven innings in a win Monday, May 2, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and he also had a pair of singles, including an RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson improved to 4-2 with a 3.05 ERA after the quality start, his fourth in six outings this season. He has emerged as a surprising must-start in all NL-only fantasy leagues and some mixed formats as well. His price tag is rising in DFS, but he remains a pretty solid value still.

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson effectively wild in victory

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 15:40:05 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson allowed two runs on three hits and four walks while fanning nine in six frames Sunday, April 10, to get the victory over the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson walked a fine line between wild and nasty en route to outdueling Dallas Keuchel, giving up a pair of solo shots while posting his highest strikeout total since last May. The 26-year-old Alabama alum is obviously capable of occasional outings like this and is a decent back-end starter in fantasy, although owners may want to sit him for his next scheduled start against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday.

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson takes hard-luck loss

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 22:08:22 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson allowed two earned runs, five hits and a walk with three strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings in a loss Tuesday, April 5, against the San Francisco Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson certainly deserved a better fate after the quality start. If he pitches like this on a regular basis he might be worth a look in more than the deepest of NL-only fantasy leagues, but like this game he'll probably have a hard time with offensive support.

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson scratched Friday

Fri, 25 Mar 2016 09:56:37 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson (illness) was scratched from his spring start Friday, March 25, with an illness. The illness won't impact the regular season rotation, according to manager Craig Counsell.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson is near the top of a rebuilding Milwaukee rotation, and he showed improvements against righties and to his ground-ball profile in 2015. However, struggles against lefties and mediocre control limits his upside for fantasy owners. He's a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues and is better as an NL-only starter.

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson finished for 2015

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 15:24:33 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson (head) will not make another start in 2015, according to manager Craig Counsell. Nelson was hit on the back of the head by a line drive Thursday, Sept. 17. Counsell said Nelson did not have a setback, but the risk outweighed the reward of making another start this season.

Fantasy Tip: Seasonal owners can drop Nelson ($7,100, 14.2% of cap) in all redraft formats. Tyler Cravy ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) will enter the rotation, but Cravy is a weak fantasy given his 6.84 ERA as a starting pitcher this season.

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson remaining in hospital

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 17:17:43 -0700

Updating previous reports, Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson (head) will spend a second consecutive night in the hospital after being hit in the head by a line drive Thursday, Sept. 17. Manager Craig Counsell said this is being done as a precautionary measure and there is no indication that he has suffered a concussion. However, a CT scan did reveal a contusion.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the team being out of contention, Counsell said Nelson ($7,100, 14.2% of cap) could return to action before the end of the regular season. He is scheduled to make his next start Tuesday, Sept. 22, against the Chicago Cubs, although it remains to be seen if he will be able to pitch on that date.

Brewers | Jimmy Nelson has contusion

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 08:55:31 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson (head) had a CT scan reveal a contusion after he was hit on the back of the head by a line drive Thursday, Sept. 17, and he will remain hospitalized for observation.

Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen if Nelson ($7,100, 14.2% of cap) will pitch again this year, but with the Brewers out of contention they certainly won't rush him back. Prepare for the possibility that he's thrown his last pitch of 2015.
