Angels | Carlos Perez returns to action

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 13:29:04 -0700

Los Angeles Angels C Carlos Perez is in the starting lineup and will bat eighth against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh on Saturday, July 23.

Fantasy Tip: Perez was optioned to the minors earlier this month after Geovany Soto returned from the disabled list to work on his bat. Mission accomplished. Perez went 11-for-31 with five extra-base hits after being sent down and will likely be in line for regular at-bats for the next week or so as Soto recovers from a left knee injury. Despite the surge, Perez is unlikely to have value outside of AL-only leagues.

Angels | Geovany Soto activated from DL

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 18:25:50 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Geovany Soto (knee) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Saturday, July 8. C Carlos Perez was sent down to Class AAA Salt Lake in the corresponding roster move. C Jett Bandy sticks around to serve as the backup to Soto.

Fantasy Tip: Soto is ready for the second half, and is a solid No. 2 receiver in AL-only fantasy formats and some deeper mixed leagues. He gives the Angels decent offense from the catcher spot, something that they sorely lacked with Perez handling most of the starts in his stead.

Angels | Three starters sitting for Angels

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 09:48:40 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava, 2B Johnny Giavotella and C Carlos Perez are not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Sean O'Sullivan Sunday, July 3. 3B Jefry Marte will start in left field and is batting sixth. SS Gregorio Petit will start at second base and is batting seventh, while C Jett Bandy will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Marte has only three hits in his last 20 at-bats and is not a strong fantasy option at this point. Petit is hitting .279 in limited playing time this season, but owners should be able to find better options for their lineups. Bandy has seven hits and two home runs in his last eight games and should have value in two-catcher leagues.

Angels | Six RBI for Carlos Perez

Sat, 02 Jul 2016 20:45:13 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Carlos Perez went 5-for-6 with a home run, two doubles, six RBI and two runs scored in a 21-2 win over the Boston Red Sox Saturday, July 2.

Fantasy Tip: Even after the monster night, he is hitting just .208. There is no need to run out to add him.

Angels | Three Angels sitting out Friday

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 15:52:30 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar, OF Daniel Nava and C Carlos Perez are not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Eric Surkamp Friday, June 24. 3B Jefry Marte will start at third base and is batting sixth. C Jett Bandy will start at catcher and is batting seventh, while OF Shane Robinson will start in left field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Marte has cooled off a bit and has only two hits in his last five games. Owners in most leagues should be able to find better options to use. Bandy has gone 4-for-4 against left-handed pitchers since being called up and may be used in two-catcher leagues. Robinson has had some success over the last week or two but is not a strong option.

Angels | Carlos Perez handling catcher drills

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 19:14:53 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Carlos Perez has handled almost all of the catching duties since C Geovany Soto (knee) went down with a knee injury which required surgery. Perez is hitting just .188 on the season.

Fantasy Tip: Perez is not a starting caliber backstop, but he has been thrust into the deal out of necessity. Jett Bandy is up with the team, but he isn't an everyday player, either. Both are only desperation No. 2 fantasy options in AL-only leagues until Soto returns.

Angels | C.J. Cron back in the lineup

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 12:19:48 -0700

Los Angeles Angels 1B C.J. Cron is in the lineup at first base and batting fifth against Oakland Athletics SP Andrew Triggs on Saturday, June 18. C Carlos Perez is also starting behind the plate for the first time in three games and will hit eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Given the fact that Cron has yet to homer and has only five RBI in June, it is difficult to recommend him outside of very deep mixed or AL-only leagues despite the fact he is batting .290 this month. Perez has been a serviceable second catcher in two-catcher leagues at certain points the season, but he's only hitting .132 this month. DFS owners can avoid this duo for the foreseeable future.
