Indians | Cody Allen picks up another save

Wed, 25 May 2016 20:27:41 -0700

Cleveland Indians RP Cody Allen pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the Chicago White Sox Wednesday, May 25, to pick up his 11th save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Allen has allowed only one run in his 11 appearances this month and has seen his ERA drop significantly during that span. Allen should continue to be the closer for the Indians and should be used in all fantasy leagues.

Indians | Cody Allen notches 10th save

Wed, 25 May 2016 16:03:57 -0700

Cleveland Indians RP Cody Allen struck out two batters during a scoreless ninth inning to record his 10th save of the season during Cleveland's 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox Wednesday, May 25.

Fantasy Tip: Allen has found his form in May and returned a win and three saves with a 0.79 ERA and 16 punchouts over 11 1/3 innings during the month. He is producing at an elite level right now, and he should be viewed as a solid closer option going forward.

Indians | Cody Allen given night off

Thu, 19 May 2016 19:32:30 -0700

Cleveland Indians RP Cody Allen was not available Thursday, May 19, after pitching two innings Wednesday, May 18, manager Terry Francona said.

Fantasy Tip: Allen has rebounded from a slow start, and he has yet to blow a save in nine chances. Between his strikeout numbers and job security, he is one of the better fantasy closers.

Indians | Cody Allen saddled with loss

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 15:46:45 -0700

Cleveland Indians RP Cody Allen allowed a three-run home run while walking two and striking out two in 1 2/3 innings to take the loss against the Seattle Mariners Thursday, April 21. It was his first loss of the year and moved his ERA up to 8.53 on the season.

Fantasy Tip: Allen allowed the big home run to Robinson Cano, a player he had owned in his career. It's a blip on the radar for Cleveland's ninth-inning stopper. He should still be viewed as a low-end No. 1 fantasy reliever despite the hiccup.

Indians | Regular workloads for Tribe relievers

Thu, 18 Feb 2016 11:50:15 -0800

Cleveland Indians RPs Cody Allen and Bryan Shaw will have regular workloads this spring, according to manager Terry Francona. Francona thought the Indians were too conservative with their relievers last year.

Fantasy Tip: Allen had 34 saves and a 2.99 ERA for the Tribe last year. He's a top fantasy closing option once the elite names are off the board. Shaw is strictly a handcuff in AL-only leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Allen had a big year last year with 34 saves, a 2.99 ERA and a 12.85 K/9. You don't hear him among the elite closers and could come at a significant value as a low-end first reliever in fantasy.

Indians | Cody Allen records four-out save

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 05:29:49 -0700

Cleveland Indians RP Cody Allen recorded a scoreless four-out save during Cleveland's 7-3 win over the New York Yankees Friday, Aug. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Allen had allowed runs in each of his past two appearances, and he has struggled off and on all season. It is reflected in his 3.93 ERA, and he has just 25 saves on the season. He is sporting a 6.00 ERA in August and has allowed a run in four of nine appearances. It is unlikely he loses his job at this point, but it wouldn't be a shock, either.

Indians | Cody Allen battling control issues

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 13:03:40 -0700

Cleveland Indians RP Cody Allen said he lost his fastball command during his blown save and loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Wednesday, Aug. 5. "I've kind of hurt myself," said Allen. "I'm getting behind in the count on guys and then just kind of get away from pitching."

Fantasy Tip: Allen has coverted 22-of-25 saves this season, so he is far from on the verge of losing his job. However, he has allowed seven earned runs through 5 2/3 innings over his last eight appearances, so he is becoming more risky for Cleveland and fantasy owners to rely on. Bryan Shaw would likely take over closing duties, if Allen continues to struggle. Shaw is a desperation add for saves chasers.

Indians | Cody Allen blows save, suffers loss

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 18:12:50 -0700

Cleveland Indians RP Cody Allen (1-4) blew his fourth save of the season and was tagged with the loss Wednesday, Aug. 5, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He allowed three runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning, with two walks and one strikeout.

Fantasy Tip: Allen has struggled mightily of late, allowing seven earned runs in 5 2/3 innings over his last eight appearances. He has surrendered at least one run in five games over that stretch. If the Indians decide to make a move at closer, Bryan Shaw could be next in line to receive save opportunities.
