Browns | NFLPA files grievance for Josh Gordon

Tue, 17 Feb 2015 07:34:06 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon's one-game suspension late last season prompted the NFLPA to file a non-injury grievance on his behalf Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is facing a one-year ban for testing positive for alcohol, and his fantasy status is dormant for the 2015 season. He still has dynasty league value due to his tremendous talent, but he's facing an uphill battle to return to the league.

Eagles | Philly rejected trade for Josh Gordon

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 15:27:42 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon was offered to the Philadelphia Eagles at the start of the 2013 season, but the Eagles did not want to trade QB Nick Foles for Gordon, according to a source. The Eagles were concerned about Gordon's two-game suspension, while the Browns wanted Foles to be their starting quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon struggled in the five games he played in this past season after he served his suspension and is in danger of missing the entire 2015 season since he tested positive for alcohol. Owners should monitor Gordon's status during the offseason but should not count on him as a top fantasy receiver. Foles likely will have to compete for the starting job during training camp and should not be seen as a No. 1 fantasy quarterback even if he wins the job.

Browns | Jimmy Haslam supports Josh Gordon

Thu, 12 Feb 2015 11:35:09 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon received support from team owner Jimmy Haslam, in an interview with Cleveland.com, Haslam was critical of Gordon's off-field behavior and hopes Gordon can get proper help during his suspension. When asked if the Browns would cut Gordon, Haslam said they have a year to decide, and the decision would be made "at the proper time."

Fantasy Tip: Provided Gordon is eligible to play in 2016, his physical talent alone keeps in the conversation. Way too much can happen between now and then to properly assess his fantasy value. He is the classic example of a risk-reward draft pick when that time comes.

Browns | Cleveland plans to pursue impact WR

Tue, 03 Feb 2015 18:51:09 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon "no longer factors into any plans," and the team plans to pursue an impact wide receiver via the draft, trade or free agency, according to a league source.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon should be crossed off all draft boards in 2015, and any guy they actually add will have some shaky value because of the uncertainty at the quarterback position in Cleveland.

Browns | Josh Gordon suspended by league

Tue, 03 Feb 2015 15:16:47 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon has been suspended without pay for at least a year for violating the league's Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. Gordon's suspension commences immediately.

Fantasy Tip: You can officially cross Gordon off your draft board for the 2015 season. When he's not having off-field troubles, Gordon is an elite fantasy football wide receiver, as he proved in 2013. It remains to be seen if Gordon will even play football again considering his extensive history of troublemaking.

Browns | Josh Gordon unlikely to win an appeal

Mon, 26 Jan 2015 11:04:40 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon is in Stage 3 of an alcohol program, which requires him to be tested for alcohol for a minimum of two years. His failed drug test came after the end of the 2014 season, and it's unlikely that an appeal will work to eliminate or lessen a one-year ban for the 2015 season.

Fantasy Tip: Unless anything changes as we get closer to the start of the 2015 season, prepare to avoid Gordon at all costs in your traditional fantasy football drafts this year.

Browns | Josh Gordon tested positive for alcohol

Mon, 26 Jan 2015 09:20:19 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon tested positive for alcohol, according to sources, and his failed test will subject him to a possible one-year suspension. Gordon caught 24 passes for 303 yards in five games last year after leading the NFL with 1,646 yards in 14 games in 2013.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is one of the special talents in the league, but his off-field demeanor is clearly getting in his way. More clarification on whether he'll be suspended for the whole year will go a long way in determining if fantasy football drafters need to completely avoid him for the 2015 season.

Browns | Josh Gordon contract affected

Sun, 25 Jan 2015 18:06:58 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon will be under contract through the 2016 season, and he will only be a restricted free agent after that year due to his looming suspension for another failed substance test.

Fantasy Tip: For the second consecutive season, Gordon heads into the year with a giant cloud of uncertainty. Fantasy owners will want to stay away on draft day, although by then there is certain to be more clarity on his playing situation.

Mon, 05 Jan 2015 16:02:10 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon and Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh are unlikely to be pursued by the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason. With Suh, the Chiefs aren't expected to have a lot of cash to spend on a high-priced free-agent target like him.

Browns | Josh Gordon on the outs

Sun, 28 Dec 2014 07:32:14 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon "has to go," according to several members of the organization. His drug suspensions and lax behavior has become a growing problem.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon seems like a story built to land in New England. Whichever team he plays for in 2015, expect him to be one of the top 10-15 receivers off the board come draft day.

Browns | Josh Gordon will be restricted free agent

Sat, 27 Dec 2014 12:28:04 -0800

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon will be a restricted free agent following the 2015 season. He will not be an unrestricted free agent because he was not active for the required six games this season after being suspended for Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon will have all offseason to refocus his priorities. There is plenty of time for this situation to turn for the better or get even worse. Keep tabs on his status throughout the offseason as he could still be one of the top wide receivers in fantasy leagues.

Browns | Josh Gordon may not return to Browns?

Sat, 27 Dec 2014 11:41:17 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon was suspended for the final game of the 2014 regular season Saturday, Dec. 27. Gordon only had five active games this season and now may not be eligible for unrestricted free agency when his current contract runs out after the 2015 season.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon certainly seems to be on thin ice and has not done much this year except be a headache to the Browns. His future fantasy value remains in flux. Keep tabs on this situation throughout the end of the season and during the offseason.

Browns | Josh Gordon missed practice

Sat, 27 Dec 2014 10:52:55 -0800

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon was suspended for Week 17 for missing practice Saturday, Dec. 27, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Again, it's best to stay away from TE Jordan Cameron and any other Cleveland pass-catchers this week as QB Connor Shaw makes his first career start.

Browns | Josh Gordon suspended

Sat, 27 Dec 2014 10:46:34 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon was suspended for Week 17 for violating team rules.

Fantasy Tip: Andrew Hawkins and Jordan Cameron will likely be the main beneficiaries with Gordon out. However, rookie QB Connor Shaw will be making his first career start, so it's probably best to stay away from any Browns pass-catchers.

Browns | Josh Gordon's reps limited

Sun, 07 Dec 2014 15:00:26 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon had his reps limited in Week 14 against the Indianapolis Colts. Head coach Mike Pettine said Sunday, Dec. 7, that the staff felt he was getting too many reps, so they took him out on third downs.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon was a fantasy killer, posting just two receptions and 15 yards in the loss. He was targeted seven times. With Brian Hoyer struggling, even a talented player like Gordon isn't worth using in FantasyScore heading into Week 15 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Browns | Josh Gordon still learning offense

Thu, 04 Dec 2014 15:35:21 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon has 195 receiving yards in his two games this year, but his timing has been off with QB Brian Hoyer, resulting in three interceptions on passes thrown his way despite a team-high 29 targets in the last two weeks. Gordon has said that it is taking time to understand offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's system and terminology. "You have to master your offense that we're running here," Gordon said. "When you do that, you think a lot less and you move a lot faster. That's really the point I'm trying to get to. I'd like for it to be second nature, for me not to even think about it. I can hear half the play in the huddle and know what to do. But it's not like that right now."

Fantasy Tip: Gordon ($7,600) is getting the targets, and that's all that really matters for fantasy football. On paper, the Indianapolis Colts have been impressive holding down receivers this year, but that shouldn't stop you from playing Gordon at FantasyScore, especially if Vontae Davis is unable to play.

Browns | Josh Gordon strong in debut

Sun, 23 Nov 2014 13:59:23 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon posted eight receptions for 120 yards in his regular season debut in Week 12 against the Atlanta Falcons. He was targeted a game-high 16 times in the win.

Fantasy Tip: There were some signs of the layoff, including some route running mistakes and a play in the back of the end zone where he allowed an interception where he appeared to give up on the route. However, he also didn't have much rust, and he appears to be a must-play in FantasyScore going forward, especially when the matchup is favorable.

Sun, 23 Nov 2014 08:17:01 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon will not receive a fine or suspension for pleading guilty to driving under the influence charge in North Carolina, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon should be on the field for the rest of the season and should have an impact on fantasy teams. Gordon is expected to be limited in Week 12 but can make an impact. Gordon costs $6,900 on FantasyScore, which may be too expensive for some owners.

Sun, 23 Nov 2014 06:13:28 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon is expected to play 20-30 snaps Sunday, Nov. 23.

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon was officially activated from the exempt/commissioner permission list Saturday, Nov. 22. In a subsequent move, the team waived LB Keith Pough.

Browns | Josh Gordon not on injury report

Fri, 21 Nov 2014 14:40:15 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (non-injury) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 21, but is not on the injury report for Week 12.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon should be on the field in Week 12 for the first time this season. It is not known if Gordon will be limited during the game, but he should receive some targets. Gordon has an expensive price tag of $6,900 on FantasyScore this week but does have a favorable matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

Browns | Josh Gordon sits out of practice

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 15:03:37 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (non-injury related) did not practice Thursday, Nov. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon ($6,900, 13.8%) will still make his long-awaited season debut this weekend. He has a tasty matchup facing the Atlanta Falcons, who are one of five defenses to give up 1,900 or more yards to opposing wide receivers.

Browns | Josh Gordon needs time to acclimate?

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 13:00:24 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon was amped up and excited to take part in his first practice with the team this year Wednesday, Nov. 19, but QB Brian Hoyer cautioned that Gordon may need some time to acclimate to offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's new offense. "It's not so much the physical aspect as knowing the plays, the heat of the battle," said Hoyer. "We do a lot of no-huddle stuff. Obviously, we're working with him on that." Hoyer mentioned that last year's offense was more set on getting the ball downfield, and he said he's never been one to force the ball to one specific player.

Fantasy Tip: Don't expect too much from Gordon ($6,900) in his first game back, although the matchup against the Atlanta Falcons is very tempting. It could be a boom or bust day for Cleveland's most talented offensive weapon.

Browns | Josh Gordon sore after practice

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 11:23:13 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon was "sore" after returning to practice Wednesday, Nov. 19, but the plan is to increase his activity each day this week, according to head coach Mike Pettine.

Fantasy Tip: Remember, Gordon ($6,900) hasn't practiced with the team all year, so he's working himself back into peak football shape. Still, he'll be suiting up for his first game of the season this weekend against the Atlanta Falcons, and the beautiful matchup will make it hard for you to keep him out of FantasyScore lineups right off the bat.

Browns | Expect Josh Gordon to be limited

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 09:22:54 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon is expected to be limited in Week 12 because it will be his first game of the season, and the team does not want to rush him into the offense, according to head coach Mike Pettine. Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith said he believes Gordon will have a significant role in the game because of his ability to make plays.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known how much playing time Gordon will receive during the game, but he likely will receive plenty of targets when he is on the field. Gordon has an expensive price tag of $6,900 on FantasyScore but has a good matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

Browns | Josh Gordon doesn't do all drills

Wed, 19 Nov 2014 14:59:31 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (non-injury) practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, Nov. 19. Gordon looked happy and was in great shape, and he caught passes from the quarterbacks in the portion that was open to the media. Head coach Mike Pettine indicated that Gordon will be limited throughout the week. "The trap to fall into is, 'Hey, he's back and let's just go ahead and throw him out there for a bunch of plays.' There's certainly danger inherent in doing that and we have to be smart with how we do it and have a plan to progress through the week," Pettine said. Pettine also cautioned that Gordon isn't back to full football shape, and it'll take him some time to learn a new offense.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon will cost $6,900 at FantasyScore this weekend against the Atlanta Falcons. The matchup is a good one if you trust that Gordon will be a big part of the offense immediately. It's certainly tempting after how Gordon came back from his suspension last year to dominate right off the bat.

Browns | Josh Gordon has big plans

Wed, 19 Nov 2014 10:48:35 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon has big plans in his return to game action in Week 12. Gordon told reporter Nate Burleson that he plans to tear up the league when he returns. "He told me: 'Starting on practice this Wednesday, I'm going to outwork everybody on the field,'" Burleson said Tuesday. "(He said) 'I'm going to try to evoke a pride in Cleveland that can hopefully lead us to the playoffs.' He's excited about coming back."

Fantasy Tip: Gordon could have a huge impact on your fantasy team this weekend with a favorable match up against the Atlanta Falcons. Gordon will cost $6,900 (13.8% of cap) in FantasyScore this week.

Falcons | Atlanta expects heavy dose of Josh Gordon

Tue, 18 Nov 2014 09:32:14 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon will make his season debut against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 12, and Falcons head coach Mike Smith doesn't expect the Browns to ease their best receiver back in. "Absolutely I do," Smith said. "They've stated that they want to get him out on the field as quickly as possible. And he's a game-changer. He's a guy that with the ball in his hands, he can make plays. So we're anticipating that we're going to get a full dose of him this week." Gordon had a league-leading 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games in 2014. Smith said they aren't afraid to put CB Desmond Trufant, their best cornerback, in a shadow role on Gordon.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon could be an immediate boost to your fantasy club if you've been stashing him. He could also be an immediate asset to FantasyScore lineups against a Falcons squad that has been generous to wide receivers, especially ones with Gordon's ability.

Browns | Browns will get ball to Josh Gordon

Fri, 14 Nov 2014 09:33:25 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon is set to return to the team next week against the Atlanta Falcons after serving his 10-game drug suspension. Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is looking forward to getting Gordon back, and he doesn't seem worried about disrupting the offense by trying to get Gordon the ball. "I haven't seen him out on the football field since training camp, so we'll have to see where he's at physically and everything," said Shanahan. "We'll try to get him in there, and as soon as he's ready to go, we'll make sure to work to get him the ball." Gordon has been able to work out with trainers at the team's facility but hasn't been able to practice with the team. Still, Shanahan wouldn't be surprised if Gordon was ready for full-time duty immediately.

Fantasy Tip: This goes against what the team was saying last week when they said Gordon wouldn't be guaranteed a role upon his return. Shanahan knows how dynamic a receiver Gordon can be, so they want to use him immediately. The matchup against the Falcons out of the gate looks nice for Gordon, too, so it'll be hard to keep him out of your lineups next week if you've been sitting on him all this time.

Browns | Josh Gordon must fight his way back

Thu, 06 Nov 2014 16:16:38 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon must fight his way back into the offense when he returns later this month, according to team officials. Gordon can return in Week 12 against the Atlanta Falcons, and he has been lifting with the team and sitting in on team meetings.

Fantasy Tip: This could easily be lip service from the team brass in order to motivate Gordon when he returns. He's easily their most dynamic and physically gifted offensive weapon, meaning he'll likely be incorporated heavily immediately. Gordon should be owned in all fantasy leagues.

Browns | CLE won't force feed Josh Gordon

Tue, 04 Nov 2014 14:29:04 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon won't be guaranteed anything when he returns from his suspension later this month, according to general manager Ray Farmer. "I would say to disrupt what you do offensively just to make sure you throw the ball to Josh Gordon ... I don't know that that's really the right way to operate," Farmer said. "Is he a phenomenal talent? Sure. I'd tell you that. He is a talented young man. He can do a lot of good things. But do you disrupt what you are to make sure that one person gets the ball?" The Browns have won four of their last five games.

Fantasy Tip: As McManamon mentions, Andrew Hawkins could be relegated to the third receiver role when Gordon returns, which will weaken his fantasy value. If Gordon is available on your league's waiver wire, he should be scooped up immediately.

Browns | Josh Gordon finally gets it

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 19:34:05 -0700

Cleveland Browns wide receivers coach Mike McDaniel is convinced WR Josh Gordon's most recent suspension made him realize he must stay on the straight and narrow to return to the field. "There's no question in my mind," McDaniel said Wednesday, Sept. 25. "Now do I think originally he understand the ramifications of his actions before he ever had a slip-up? Probably not, but it happens as it goes. That's one thing I've really been taken aback by is how much responsibility he's definitely taking, and he needs to continue to take."

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is eligible to return in Week 12 against the Atlanta Falcons. Fantasy owners are hoping Gordon really does get it, and can be a huge addition down the stretch and into the fantasy playoffs.

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon is eligible to return from his suspension to play in Week 12 against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, Nov. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon might be a bit rusty, at least initially, but his return could be giant for fantasy owners making a run for a postseason spot. Looking ahead to the fantasy playoffs, he faces the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 15 at home before a road game against the Carolina Panthers in Week 16.

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon avoided an additional two-game suspension by pleading guilty to a driving while intoxicated charge in Raleigh, N.C., Tuesday, Sept. 16. Gordon's guilty plea will not be disciplined under the new drug policy.

The NFL and NFLPA have reached an agreement to a new drug testing policy. An announcement is expected soon.

Fantasy Tip: Wes Welker may be eligible to play in Week 3. He is priced at $3,700 (7.4% of your cap) on FantasyScore, but they are playing the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3. He's a cheap gamble to take, but temper expectations. Josh Gordon could be eligible to return later this season as well.

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon had his season-long suspension officially cut to 10 games Tuesday, Sept. 16. He could also avoid serving the mandatory two-game suspension for his DWI because he pled guilty to his drunken-driving charge early Tuesday before an agreement on the new-drug testing policy was reached, according to a league source.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Gordon could miss just eight more games and be eligible to return Sunday, Nov. 23.

Browns | Josh Gordon pleads guilty to DWI

Tue, 16 Sep 2014 09:42:11 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon pled guilty to driving while intoxicated in North Carolina Tuesday, Sept. 16, according to the Wake County Clerk of Court. He received 12 months unsupervised probation and will have to pay $290 in court costs, as well as a $100 fine. Gordon's year-long suspension is expected to be reduced to 10 games once a final agreement on a new drug-testing policy is in place. However, his DWI conviction under the new policy could result in a two-game suspension on top of his 10-game suspension.

Fantasy Tip: It's not official yet, but this will likely put Gordon out for 12 games once the new drug-testing policy is in place. Regardless, Gordon should still be owned in all leagues, as he could help your team in the fantasy playoffs.
