The Baltimore Sun reports the Baltimore Ravens have signed free agent QB Matt Lytle (Panthers). Lytle was out of football last year but spent the 2001 season with the Carolina Panthers, starting a game against the St. Louis Rams. In 2000, Lytle was with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Gaston Gazette reports Carolina Panthers rookie QB Randy Fasani will likely be the team’s No. 3 quarterback following the departure of Matt Lytle on Tuesday. QB Chris Weinke will be the team’s starting QB again this year with veteran Rodney Peete serving as the No. 2. The Panthers have another quarterback, Matt Watkins, on roster but he’s playing in NFL Europe.

The Gaston Gazette reports free agent QB Matt Lytle’s agent, Bradley Peter, said he’s happy the Carolina Panthers let Lytle go now rather than down the road because it gives Lytle a chance to compete for a job elsewhere.

Pat Yasinskas of the Charlotte Observer reports for the Sporting News Carolina Panthers coach John Fox would like to add a veteran QB to serve a backup to QB Chris Weinke. Matt Lytle is likely to be the No. 3 QB, but it's also possible the team could bring in someone to compete with him.

The Gaston Gazette reports the Carolina Panthers extended tender offers to the following exclusive rights free agents: QB Matt Lytle, TE Casey Crawford, CB Deveron Harper, LBs Lester Towns and Kory Minor, OL T.J. Washington and FB Brad Hoover. As expected, OLB Hannibal Navies was tendered at $563,000.

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers coach George Seifert said QB Chris Weinke suffered a concussion when he was sacked on the next to last play of today's game. "It's a concussion, so it's taken seriously," Seifert said. "But we don't think at this time it's beyond that." QB Matt Lytle came in for the last play of the game.

Panthers.com reports Carolina Panthers QB Chris Weinke (shoulder) practiced again on Thursday. However, head coach George Seifert isn't sure who he is going to choose as his starting quarterback for this weekend's game. "Right now, I don't know what I am leaning to," Seifert said about going with either Weinke or Matt Lytle as his starter.
