Reds | Dan Straily earns win Wednesday

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 19:27:43 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Dan Straily (6-6) allowed one run on three hits over 7 2/3 innings in a victory over the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, July 27, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Straily improved to 2-1 with a 2.41 ERA through five starts this month, with 10 walks and 23 strikeouts over 33 2/3 innings. He is worthy of consideration as a value play in his next scheduled start against the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Reds | Dan Straily loses again

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 21:15:51 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Dan Straily allowed four runs on three hits in six innings against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, June 22. He walked two and struck out three.

Fantasy Tip: After allowing two runs in his first 14 innings this month, Straily has been touched up for 10 runs over his last 10 1/3 frames, raising his ERA from 3.15 to 3.83 in the process. Straily's struggles shouldn't concern you just yet, but definitely keep an eye on him over his next couple of starts to see if he rights the ship.

Reds | Dan Straily roughed up Thursday

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 16:57:04 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Dan Straily allowed a season-high six runs on seven hits while walking three in just 4 1/3 innings to the Atlanta Braves Thursday, June 16. Straily struck out five and saw his season ERA rise to 3.66 on the year.

Fantasy Tip: This was a disappointing outing for the right-hander against one of the weakest hitting teams in the majors. Overall he's been strong in Cincy's rotation, though, as he had a 3.15 ERA and 1.13 WHIP entering Thursday's start. He's more of a matchup play in deeper mixed and NL-only leagues, however.

Reds | Dan Straily solid in defeat

Wed, 25 May 2016 22:40:20 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Dan Straily took the loss on Wednesday, May 25, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Straily surrendered three runs on just three hits and fanned a season-high 11 in seven innings.

Fantasy Tip: This was Straily's eighth start of 2016, and he has yet to allow more than three runs in a game. For the month of May, Straily is 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 30 K's in 30 1/3 innings pitched. He's worth adding in most formats.

Reds | Dan Straily tagged with loss

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 18:34:38 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Dan Straily (0-1) allowed two runs on five hits over six innings in a loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday, April 29, with three walks and five strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Despite taking the loss, this was Straily's first outing of the year where he made it into the sixth inning. He's worth considering as a viable pitching option for NL-only leagues and a value play for daily fantasy games.

Reds | Dan Straily solid in no-decision

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 21:02:19 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Dan Straily allowed just one earned run, two hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision Monday, April 18, against the Colorado Rockies in his first start of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Straily threw 52 of his 76 pitches for strikes. He has posted a respectable 2.70 ERA in Cincinnati, and is worth a look in deeper NL-only leagues and DFS play for his mid-tier salary. After this solid effort he is likely to stick around in the Cincinnati rotation for a while.

Reds | Dan Straily claimed by Reds

Fri, 01 Apr 2016 10:35:24 -0700

Free-agent SP Dan Straily (Padres) has been claimed by the Cincinnati Reds.

Fantasy Tip: Straily was traded to the Padres only a handful of days ago, but apparently they didn't have room for him on the active roster. However, that could end up being a blessing in disguise for the former Athletic, as he winds up on a club that desperately needs starting pitching. Straily has exhibited notable potential previously, including an ability to rack up strikeouts, so he's definitely worth tracking with the Reds. He could easily develop into a reliable asset in at least some mixed leagues.

Padres | Dan Straily cut

Fri, 01 Apr 2016 07:07:13 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Dan Straily was designated for assignment Friday, April 1.

Fantasy Tip: Straily has elite strikeout stuff, but his control is what plagues him. He's worth keeping on your watch list in NL-only formats.

Padres | Dan Straily to be used in bullpen

Mon, 28 Mar 2016 19:01:04 -0700

The San Diego Padres acquired SP Dan Straily from the Houston Astros Monday, March 28. For now, he will be used in the bullpen, but he might move to the rotation later in the season if the team makes a trade.

Fantasy Tip: Straily was 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA over 12 innings with the Astros this spring, striking out 14 batters while posting a .306 opponent batting average and 1.50 WHIP. He won 10 games for the Athletics in 2013 as a full-time starter, and can help out in the strikeouts, ERA and WHIP category when he is running hot. However, as a member of the bullpen he isn't someone to bother with in fantasy for now.

Astros | Dan Straily sent down

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 11:35:00 -0700

Houston Astros SP Dan Straily was designated for assignment by the Astros Wednesday, Aug. 5, and SP Asher Wojciechowski was recalled from Class AAA Fresno in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Straily can be dropped in all AL-only leagues in which he might have been added. Wojciechowski had a 7.31 ERA in three starts for the 'Stros earlier this year, including an ugly 1.88 WHIP. It's unclear if he'll see anymore starts for Houston, but he's not a recommended play on FantasyScore, at least initially.
