Athletics | Four players placed on 15-day disabled list

The Oakland Athletics have officially placed SP A.J. Griffin (elbow), RPs Ryan Cook (shoulder) and Fernando Rodriguez (elbow) and OF Craig Gentry (back) on the 15-day disabled list. The moves are retroactive to March 21, meaning they are eligible to return as soon as Saturday, April 5.

Athletics | A.J. Griffin shut down for three weeks

Oakland Athletics SP A.J. Griffin (elbow) will be shut down for three weeks because flexor tendinitis in his elbow. Griffin will not need surgery because no structural damage was evident. Griffin may receive a platelet rich plasma injection in the elbow.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Griffin will start the regular season on the disabled list because of his elbow injury. Griffin was considered a later-round picks in mixed leagues before the injury but likely will go undrafted in most leagues because of the injury.

Athletics | OD in jeopardy for Jarrod Parker, A.J. Griffin

Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin acknowledged that SPs Jarrod Parker (forearm) and A.J. Griffin (elbow) are in jeopardy of starting the season on the disabled list. SP Jesse Chavez is expected to claim one of the rotation spots, and SP Tommy Milone is also likely to be in the starting five in April.

Fantasy Tip: Avoiding Parker and Griffin in your drafts might be the smart thing to do right now, until we know more about their injuries. Chavez and Milone are flier picks in cavernous mixed leagues and AL drafts.

Oakland Athletics SPs A.J. Griffin and Dan Straily might win the final two spots in the team's rotation, but they will have competition. SP Drew Pomeranz will be stretched out during spring training, and he is hopeful of winning a rotation spot. SP Tommy Milone is also hopeful of pushing his way into the mix and re-gaining his spot in the rotation. P Josh Lindblom is also expected to be under consideration, although he is likely to begin the season at Triple-A Sacramento.

Oakland Athletics SP A.J. Griffin allowed a second-inning home run in the Cactus League spring game Sunday, March 3, against the Colorado Rockies. "I don't like giving up home runs, but I probably hate walking people more than giving up home runs," Griffin said. He said he needs to work on his fastball command, especially down in the zone.
